Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

Update Notes are out:

Greetings Heroes,

Here are the update notes for 3/31/2016. (NOTE: We are aiming to have this update go live on 3/31/2016 between 1pm and 6pm Pacific Time, but there is always the chance that the update may slip to 4/1/2016)

The level cap has increased to 80!

New Light/Dark Stages

stage 8 light normal unlocks at player level 74. All stage 7 light normal battles must be complete.
stage 8 light hard battles unlock upon completion of stage 8 light normal battles.
stage 8 dark normal unlocks at player level 76. All stage 7 dark normal battles must be complete.
stage 8 dark hard battles unlock upon completion of stage 8 dark normal battles.

Cantina Battles

Cantina Battles stage 7 unlocks at player level 77. All stage 6 battles must be complete.

Challenges

Challenges requiring player levels between 70-80 will unlock. There are no new challenges, but there are harder tiers for existing challenges which offer new pieces of gear.

General Changes
Max Level Player Daily Activity – The Max Level Player Daily Activity is only displayed to players at max level and rewards a new Ability Material.

Can only be completed after the “Claim All Daily Activity Rewards” daily activity is claimed.

Dispellable “Continuous Healing” Effects now Display an Icon – “Continuous Healing” effects, which are now susceptible to being dispelled, now display an icon and text when active.
Evasion Buff now correctly says “+10% Evasion Chance” instead of “+10% Dodge Chance”.
An extra surprise will also...

Gear Changes

Gear level 9 has been changed among the following units:

Ima-Gun Di
Jawa
Kylo Ren
Nightsister Initiate
Tusken Raider
CT-5555 "Fives"
Obi-Wan Kenobi (Old Ben)
Teebo
Plo Koon
First Order Stormtrooper
Magmatrooper
Hoth Rebel Scout

An additional ingredient has been added to the following gear crafting recipes:

Mk 5 Arakyd Droid Caller also requires 50 Mk 9 Neuro-Saav Electrobinoculars Salvage items
Mk 5 CEC Fusion Furnace also requires 50 Mk 10 TaggeCo Holo Lens Salvage items
Mk 7 Nubian Security Scanner also requires 50 Mk 11 BlasTech Weapon Mod Salvage items
Mk 6 Nubian Design Tech also requires 50 Mk 10 Neuro-Saav Electrobinoculars Salvage item

Some of these items are currently unavailable, but will become available in the next major update.

Character Changes

Qui-Gon Jinn’s rank 8 leader ability has been changed to “Jedi allies have +25 Speed and gain Potency Up for 1 turn at the beginning of each encounter.”
Geonosian Soldier’s rank 8 special upgrade has been changed to “Damage +15%”.

Bug Fixes

Fixed a bug that caused First Order Officer’s basic ability to gain less damage than intended at some upgrades.

"An extra surprise will also..."

Will also what? WILL ALSO WHAT?!?!!

Pretty nice to see a free material every day for maxed players. Sucks there's no announcement about new Arena character or new achievements. C'est la vie.

Gear is already a horrible grind, but now they're increasing the numbers required for some of them. There's a post on Reddit suggesting that you go in and craft any that you can before the update.

The funny thing is that even whales hate grinding. Grinding is what will make this game die an early death. I already feel like the user base is starting to erode.

More bullshit vaguery from EA Jessie:

Hey Everyone,

While I can't share exact details yet, know that there will be more ways to acquire gear in the near future.

April COTM is Resistance Trooper. I already pulled him from Bronze so I guess he'll be three stars. He's still L1 and will be for life.

It's starting to bother me that the most OP players in the game are so generic:

GS
FOTP
RP
RG
etc.

Just seems stupid that Old Ben is weak sauce but you could run the above and dominate.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

Couldn't agree more. There should be tiers of power. Clearly Jedi and Sith would be basically equal and the top of the food chain. You could offset this by difficulty to unlock or allow them to progress the furthest (7*).

Then you'd have a group like Nightsisters and maybe some high profile second tier characters (Boba, IG-88, Poe, etc) that max out at 6*.

Under that you can separate your named heroes (Rex, Fives, Dathcha, Teebo, etc) as your 5* tier followed by all the nameless generics (FOTP, Clone Sergeant, Jawa, Ewok Elder, etc) as your 3/4* tier.

That's just off the top of my head. After that, you could further balance the game by giving every hero in each tier a locked pool of maximum stats that the developers could distribute to make some fast, but weak. Others slow, but devastating. Of course, that's easier said than done when you factor in unique attacks and abilities that, as of now, don't affect power rating so the whole system is throw out of whack.

Probably that 7* Jedi/Sith tier should be broken out to 7* (Sidious, Vader, Yoda, JK Anakin, Mace, Clone Wars Kenobi) and 6* (Maul, Kylo (I know, not a Sith), Ahsoka (or even 5* for the Padawan)) which would give a greater sense of disparity between your Yodas and your Resistance Pilots with Foresight.

It's weird and kinda nice to not be putting any time into this this morning. A nice, leisurely calm before the storm. Energy at 110 and 90 currently. On track to be maxed by 1pm local time.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

Man, going by my idea up there, you could further say that a PVP team could only have a maximum of, say, 30 stars so you can't just have a full 5x7* team of killers but have to balance out who you take in and strategize a bit more. You'd be able to offset the relative weakness of a 4* Ewok grunt with a leader like Leia (Endor) or Wicket (6*).

Reading this made me think of another possible idea: limits on team makeup.

For example, each team must contain:

- Attacker
- Support
- Tank
- Healer
- Wild Card

This way you can't have five DPS characters. But I also like your idea of having only certain players reach 7* and others be limited to less. That's a really good idea in fact.

BTW, my GW has not gotten any easier. It's still full 70s, 7* teams from node 4 on. Tedious at this point. When I'm done with 86 and Poggle, I may not really care if I finish anymore.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

Along with the update, Yoda is back. I just unlocked him at 5*. Way too early for me to get my three 5* Jedi to 6*. I don't know if I should gear and level him up for use in GW, or just wait on him and upgrade my main characters.

There had been speculation that they were putting him on hold so that people wouldn't have an easier time once the cap was raised. Maybe they pushed him early so that nobody would have time to level up much.

Maybe a response to all the people hoarding energy to level up quicker.

Honestly, I think it's impossible to reach L72 before Sunday without major refreshes.

Also, Yoda is back for a week. Not ready for him unfortunately. Need major work for four jedis. Will get him eventually. really want to get GS to & 7* and Dooku to 6* before moving back to Barriss, then JC, then Mace.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

Cool, I'll get 5* Yoda in about 2 days once I get Ahsoka to 5* from cantina credits. My next decision will be whether to go back to QGJ to get him to 7* from credits which will be about 20 days, or to go for Ahsoka for 6* which will take 17 days for the next Yoda event in about a month (if it happens). I don't think there would be time for both. QGJ would obviously be more useful in overall game, so I think I will go for that. I would still have to get JC up to 6* and Old Ben by next event.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

I spent crystals on very many refreshes. I have just over 2100 XP of the 5500 for the next level. I wouldn't be shocked if the requirement goes up by 500/level now. 11,500 is what I anticipate at a minimum. That'll be 5-6 days before level 72 for me and I'm spending 600(?) crystals each day.

Purple hairdryers are now in the AGI challenge but I'm not seeing the purple handcuffs or eyeballs pointing to a challenge yet.

It's actually 1000 more xp per level. It will take about two months to get to 80. Which is pretty fine if you ask me.

I'm really not sure it's possible to get to 72 by Sunday. I think I can get about 2k xp per day at my refresh rates, but even then, I'll still be 71.

Android users got their Poe shards in their inbox. On Reddit, they're saying the Phasma shards for iOS are a strong rumor because someone saw it in the meta or something, but there's been nothing confirmed by the devs, so it may just be nothing more than wishful thinking. :(

People seem pretty upset about this update because ultimately it amounts to a whole lot more grinding (though isn't that pretty much what this game is anyway? LOL It's still fun!). But I guess the drop rates of the elite purple gear are about 20%, so it could take months to get a team from level 70 to 80...

pinata242 03-31-16 10:11 PM

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

Since the purple hairdryers are going to drop for free 15x each week, likely in multiple quantities each, I have switched to farming for QGJ's purple handcuffs. I didn't track how many times I simmed the node tonight, but I am +14 over yesterday. Feels like I did less than 70 sims (700 energy) on it which would be 20%.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

So I had a stark self-realization just now.

I checked and found that no one in the top 100 in my server has yet reached level 71. As I, myself, am about 75% of the way there, I figured that meant there aren't a lot of "whales" on my server. Then the reality sank in because I've been spending 600 or 700 crystals each day that *I* am a whale right now. I'm just swimming with the rest of the school.

Pinata, if you look around the table and can't find the sucker...it's you

:D

In other news, I now have 3* every LS/DS mission as well as all Catina. So I have that going for me.

As for whales though, they are leaving in droves over this. They pay for CONTENT not grinding. EA/CG has a real problem on their hands.

I finally looked into this. I had plans, along with everyone else, to have Lumi and Sid hit G9 just as soon as they were L74 now that purple hairdryers are more easily farmable through challenges. But they've basically said "no, you can't upgrade these superstars because we arbitrarily decided to require a new component you can't get anywhere."

Fuckin' assholes. Meanwhile, Mace, QGJ, and Yoda are about to hit G9.

Looks like the FA promotion may have been aborted for iOS. EA_Jessie hasn't stated it isn't coming but he did make some comments on the thread asking what happened to the Phasma shards.

If it isn't officially announced then it may or may not happen. I've warned everyone before, be very careful when reading about information that is data mined, because it may be left over information that is no longer up to date.
and

Promotions will always happen. Sometimes Google Play will get stuff that iOS doesn't and vice versa.
No word as to why there would be nothing for iOS.

Yeah, but even as an Android user I think it's bullshit iOS people have gotten nothing. No Days of Spring cards (NO REASON for that one); no Droid Event; no Poe/Phasma shards. Just seems pretty unfair.

Apparently, it's back on. EA_Jessie says

The team has ordered food and are working late to get iOS users in the US and CAN their Captain Phasma shards for the promotion. So standby! We're aiming to get them pushed out within the hour.

Happy Star Wars The Force Awakens release!
Why they didn't just say that in the first place. Unless, they reinstated it due to the backlash.
