I prefer digital for the following reasons:
-less clutter
-dont have to find a game disc and put it in the machine
-i like services like Battle.net and Steam where i can easily install/uninstall games I own on any computer (windows, Os X or linux)
-I never finish games fast enough to get enough trade in value to make it worth selling
-also my kids cant break the discs if its a digital download.

The only reason i buy physical games is because they're usually a lot cheaper and easier than a digital code to give as xmas present.

The license for the digital games I purchased. Every now and then it asks me to log into my acct to verify I was the one that purchased the game. It's an annoyance to have to keep verifying this. This doesn't happen with my 360.

Mine hasn't changed at all on the console side. I'm buying almost all movies digitally now, but I rarely pay more than 10 bucks to do that, which is the same as seeing it in the theater.

New games are far more expensive and I always want to be able to have the option of trading them in. For example, if I'd been stuck with Destiny or Arkham Knight after I'd beaten them, I'd be bummed.

Steam games are different, as they are usually so cheap it's like buying lunch so I don't mind that as much. But I've curbed a lot of my purchases there, as I was buying things just to have and would never have the time to play them.

I can definitely understand the appeal of cheap digital games that cost $20 or less.

But, I don't see appeal of spending $60 for a brand spanking new game digitally that has a beginning, a middle and an end and would be worthless for someone who devotes many hours to it and eventually beats it. As mentioned, at least with a disc, if you beat the game, you can get something back for it by selling it or trading it.

I would be pissed if I spent $60 on Rainbow Six: Siege as a download, beat it and then was stuck with it on my hard drive because I have no way of recouping my investment.

One thing for me is that I still sell alot of my newer titles on Amazon marketplace and trade on sites like Gametz....which I can't do with digital. It's kind've risk avoidance I guess. For example, I purchased the Phantom Pain new for around $60. Played it for four hours and hated it. I listed it on Amazon marketplace and sold it for around $47 within 20 minutes.

Did you even read and comprehend his post? He said as a download... You pay $60 for a download, beat it quickly and can't make anything back on it. Seems reasonable to me and the reason I only buy digital when the price is really really too good to pass up, like the $4 I paid for a digital copy of The Last of Us for PS4 off eBay because I had a 10$ coupon

I don't have the hdd space for digital, and I don't have the wherewithal to swap out my PS4's hard-drive for a new one, so I'm stuck with physical. At least I can resell them, even if for a pittance. And if I have to make room on my hdd, reinstalling from the disc is a matter of seconds compared to the how long it would take to download 20 to 50 gigs.

Really? Install times for most of my games take a while; definitely not seconds (even before the updates).

Yes I understand that the game loses value once you open it. You'll be lucky to get 50% of your purchase price when trading it or selling it. But that's better than zero for having a $60 download sitting on your hard drive for a game you have no interest in anymore after you beat it.

Yeah, really! You know, that little bar underneath the game icon? Some take longer after I actually launch the game, but it's still a tiny fraction compared to download times.

PS4 is crazy, crazy fast for installs, and I'd measure it in seconds. (Maybe not, like, 6 seconds, but definitely not what I'd measure in multiple minutes.) The Xbox One takes for-friggin'-ever, though.

The PS4 is cheating a lot of those times though. It'll install your ability to launch the game, where then you sit on an in-game installing screen for a while. Not all games do that, though. And in comparison, the XO takes a lot longer to even get you to that point.

That's not a full install though, that's just until you can "start" the game. Like in BO3, you can only play zombie mode at first, and then slowly the multiplayer will install followed by the campaign.

My thoughts exactly. Although, it would be nice to sell your "used" digital game on a second hand market somehow.

I couldn't care less about discs, artwork, or any of the other benefits that comes with physical media. The main reason why I'm still mainly physical is price. Digital on console just cannot match how quickly games gets marked down these days, or being able to trade in or sell a game once you're done with it. This isn't as big a deal for people who keep their games, obviously, but I tend to get rid of my games once I beat them, so selling them greatly reduces the cost out of pocket for me.

But even games that are older still have wonky prices. Alien Isolation is $30 right now on PS4, but you can easily get a brand new physical copy for under $20. And this seems to be the case across the board, with the physical copy of older titles being $5 to $15 cheaper than their digital counter parts.

I actually prefer most everything about digital over physical games. They take up less space, don't need to swap out discs, games are tied to your acct, and all that jazz. But price supersedes all of that for me. The only time it wouldn't is if I was going to buy a multiplayer game I planned to play for years, like Street Fighter 5. In a case like that, I would rather be able to jump into the game quickly, than have to go for a disc.
