Dammit. It looks like a few of the most mentioned games are PS4 exclusives. I did not want to have to worry with 2 different systems this generation.

I was a bit more selective with what I tried this year. The only ones that I just didn't click with were: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Mad Mad, Splatoon and Need For Speed.

Glad to see Until Dawn getting some love here. It's surprisingly effective on the first playthrough, although after that the seams start to show.

Went ahead and voted Tomb Raider. As fun as Just Cause 3 is, it's not going to get it, and I won't have time to start anything else of note before the end of the year. Good job, Tomb Raider.

After finishing Tomb Raider, that probably slides in at #3 behind Life is Strange and Ori. I started playing more Fallout 4, but having trouble getting in to it.

Played the hockey mode last night. So much fun. Not enough to overtake Life Is Strange as GOTY, but it's still my runner up.

There were a number of high-quality Japanese shmups released on Steam in the last few months, including:

• DARIUSBURST Chronicle Saviours
• Mushihimesama
• Strania - The Stella Machine
• ESCHATOS

All are great releases of great games, although I'm not ready to give any of them game-of-the-year contender status yet.

Out of the 17 games I own from the list, I've only played 8 of them enough to make any real judgement. I'll go with Batman Arkham Knight.

I'm also surprised Taken King and MKX are missing from the poll. Battlefield Hardline and The Order 1886 were both enjoyable in their own ways, but I can see why they are not on the poll

For me, Witcher 3, by far, especially if you include the DLC, which alone was better than most of the games on the list.

It had the superior quality of world/missions/story/character (and actual gameplay) sorely lacking from Fallout 4.

Runner up for me would be Bloodborne.

I already awarded PES 2016 as tops for me, but wanted to give Project Cars a nod too. Many patches and the classic tracks and Lotuses and its by far the best racing sim made for consoles.
