I'm going to say that PSN gets hacked, and XBL just goes down because of course it does.

I don't think anything gets hacked. I'm sure there will be DDOS attacks though.

It's always PSN. I imagine they still store our passwords in plain text too.

This could trick Xbox users into handing over their username and password, potentially leading to further attacks on the user.
Great job Microsoft!

So basically, as long as you don't log on through the site until they fix this, everything should be fine on the user end correct? Just make purchases through the console itself?

The certificate was already revoked, so unless you're using a super old or pirated OS or something any modern browser should warn you with a big ol' untrusted certificate error if a 3rd party website tried to use it and pass their site off as being legit.

As far as I can tell, there's nothing to really worry about as far as using their website

This doesn't really make a difference here.

Idiots who deserve to be drug into the street and shot...twice. On the positive end, I probably won't be anywhere near my 360 or Xbox One on that day since I'll be at a bunch of other places like most people. But hopefully its back up shortly.

There's been cases in the past where online goes down completely. That's why I like offline single player games more and more. Although these days online verification is popping up on these titles

You quoted the XBox certificate post, and i'm saying that particular thing has absolutely nothing to do with you playing Fallout 4 single player.

Xbox Live pummeled by DDoS attack; hacker DDOS group claims responsibility

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/1...n-ddos-attack/

In an attack aping the work of the infamous Lizard Squad hacking group, the similarly titled Phantom Squad has claimed responsibility for a DDoS attack on Microsoft's Xbox Live service. While the service is now currently back up, some users experienced problems logging in overnight. Sony's PlayStation Network was not affected.

The attacks follow threats issued by Phantom Squad on its now suspended Twitter account. The group threatened to take down both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network over the Christmas period for as long as a week. Responding to criticism over the threats, the group said: "Why do we take down PSN and Xbox Live? Because cyber security does not exist," and "Some men just want to watch PSN and Xbox Live burn."

This was followed by a tweet yesterday reading "Xbox Live #Offline," coinciding with the reported Xbox Live problems. "Maybe if you guys didn't talk shit about us, we would not hit Xbox Live this early," read another tweet. The group then threatened to take down PlayStation Network next, before its Twitter account was taken offline.

Re: What Gets Hacked? Holiday 2015 Edition

Lizard Squad joins in on the PSN, Xbox LIVE DDoS threats.

In the world of hacking, DDoSing is comparable to a d*ck measuring contest. No one really cares except for those involved. And it looks like Lizard Squad wants to get in on some of the action. Proving they've got the biggest d*ck of all, the group has joined Phantom Squad in threatening Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network; although, it doesn't appear the two groups are working together.

Following Phantom Squad's recent series of DDoS attacks on Xbox LIVE, a hacking war of sorts has appeared to break out. A hacker group by the name SkidNP claimed to have hacked Phantom Squad's website. The group posted a screenshot of their work and left the following message:

“Hello Phantom Squad. Your website has been taken over by Lizards.”

“You took credit for multiple attacks that you nor any of your members did. We are not so happy about this so we’ve taken over your site. Here is a suggestion. Quit while you have the chance because if you take credit for the Christmas attacks it will be the last thing you do.”

According to the techworm.net, @Obstructable (a SkidNP member) said the reference to Lizard Squad was a joke and the group is not linked to the notorious hacking crew from last year.

What's interesting, however, is that since then -- as recent as a few hours ago -- @Obstructable tweeted that they will now be working with Phantom Squad.

And if that weren't enough for gamers to worry about, it seems an old friend, Lizard Squad, has become active once again. The group, which has remained relatively quiet over the past year, retweeted a warning by one of its members, AppleJ4ck. Similar to Phantom Squad's threats, the group is warning that Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network will go down on Christmas day.

Assholes since they have such miserable lives, their only joy is to make other people as miserable as they are.

You're talking about the people complaining about the proper use of the word 'hack,' right?

Obviously he's talking about the people who refuse to use the word 'hack' correctly!
