Seems pretty normal for Quantic Dreams titles. I for one am excited that my PS4 purchase is validated, as this is literally the only title I was wanting to play - the rest are pure bonus.

I have played the first few chapters. It is not as much a game as it is an interactive experience, in my opinion. I am enjoying that experience so far.

Again, typical for a QD game.

What a great game! I got a terrible ending so I can't wait to start over and make different choices. These flow charts are crazy complex.

I love Quantic Dream's games, but with the kind of games that they are, I see little reason to buy them at launch and pay full price.

To support them so they can keep making games. Mostly.

And I understand that logic, I'm just saying that from my perspective and the situation I'm in (limited funds and a sizable backlog) I can't justify the purchase. It will be the same experience for me when it's a $20 or $30 game.

Re: DETROIT - (Quantic Dream - PS4) 2016

I'll spoilerize my ending, curious to see if anyone got a worse one.
Spoiler:

Marcus is dead
Kara is dead
Connor killed Hank and is going to be deactivated and replaced
Connor killed North and the rebellion lost
Luther and Alice are alive but alone and naked in the junkyard.

I failed spectacularly.

I have this coming from the library. Since it sounds like a fairly straightforward experience, I shouldn't have a problem finishing it in a week.

You will be able to finish it but there will remain a bunch to be seen. Some of the flowcharts are really complex and a lot of decisions to be made.

I just finished a chapter last night and the flowchart at the end showed that there were huge chunks of stuff that I missed. I'm going to replay it tonight.

Don't do it like that, just go on and play the next chapter.

Finished it today and it was really a great experience. Easily the best one of these type of games they've made.

Re: DETROIT - (Quantic Dream - PS4) 2016

Had a free rental so I decided to give this a go. Wow, what an experience. Beautiful, emotional, and based on my ending, sad. All three stories were fantastic and the character development was just unrivaled. I was most attached to Kara and Alice but Conner and Hank's budding friendship was pretty good too. Markus' backstory was interesting with the reknowned painter. His story with North, was less interesting, but I made them work anyway. I loved seeing the flowcharts and the world stats on people's choices. That's a nice touch.

Right up until the Crossroads I was doing great. Everyone was alive. Public opinion was great. Conner and Hank were friends. Markus and North were lovers. I mean up until this I'm feeling like I had the "good" endings for all three characters in the bag. But shit went South in Jericho.

There are many different endings so the rest may or may not have spoilers:

Spoiler:

Markus: I did things peacefully throughout and ended up lovers with North. We kissed in front of the police and Madame President called off the extermination. Yay! Freedom for androids. So in this regard, I assume that's the best ending for his story.

Conner: It seemed that no matter what I kept fucking up investigations as Conner. I was friends with Hank by the end, but I screwed up the interrogation, screwed up the strip club investigation and ultimately screwed up going to Cyberlife. I was killed by security. Looking at world stats, I'm with a whopping 2% of gamers that happened to. So that was disappointing. I wasn't too attached to him though, so whatever.

Kara and Alice: I was in it for Kara and Alice. My goal was to protect them at all costs even if it meant sacrificing the other two stories. So at the Crossroads when Luthor went down and he told us to go on, I did. Boom, Luthor dead. From there it only got worse. We got captured trying to escape and were sent to the recycling plant. Looking at the flowchart, there was still a way to escape, but I missed that somehow. Both Alice and Kara died in the machine. Again, I'm with 2% of the population on that one.

So to play a 15 hour game, damn near flawlessly only to fuck it up in the last :30 minutes? Man, talk about frustrating. By that point, the game should have some built in parameters based on how well you were doing to give you a little cushion or something. Great game but I'm kinda aggravated. I'll have to wait and let it sit before giving it a final verdict.

Doubtful I'd ever play through the whole game again as my experience was my experience. Sucks. But I might go back to that one checkpoint at Crossroads that changed everything and try and change my fate just to see where it goes.

Re: DETROIT - (Quantic Dream - PS4) 2016

I also had a frustrating ending my first time

Spoiler:
I chose to sacrifice Hank when Conner went to Cyberlife. Conner ended up dying too, but I woke up the rest of the androids. I had Kara take the long route and ended up missing the bus. Then I lost Luthor when the boat got attacked and Kara froze pushing the boat. The only "happy" moment was Markus and North ended up kissing and ending the rally in a peaceful protest.

So I wasn't very happy with that ending. So I decided to play the last chapter one more time and make a few different choices, and ended up with a totally new ending

Spoiler:
This time Conner and Hank lived. I took the shortcut and caught the bus to Canada and made it through customs, so Luther, Kara, and Alice all survived. And I had the same conclusion with Markus and North. They even had a brief scene after the credits with Conner and Hank meeting up again.

So I'm glad I went back and replayed the final mission again. I was pretty sour with my first ending and since everything changed for my second ending I walked away pretty satisfied with the game as a whole. This is my first David Cage game, so the entire thing was pretty wild with all of the branching paths and the world stats that you see at the end of each chapter. It's crazy how many different experiences people can have playing the same game. Overall I would recommend checking it out, even if it's just a rental.
