My copy arrived today!
So far, I'm having fun with it. The Analyst sequences so far are pretty terrible, but otherwise, I'm enjoying the characters and relationships.
I wouldn't call the game 'scary'... not yet anyway, but it's fun, and the quick-time events are making me feel more and more tense about it, each time they come up.

According to CAG, next week's Best Buy ad has this for $39.99, but there's a lot of speculation that it's a typo, as it's listed in among other MSRP games instead of sale ones. I know I'll eventually pick this up, but am still a ways off from finishing Witcher 3 and then have MGS V, so I'll probably hold for an even cheaper price.

Dan, don't pat yourself on the back too hard; nobody could have died yet in your game.

Well, I finished it! This game was a lot of fun, and I recommend it. My biggest complaints are that the characters walk WAY too slow at times, and because of that, the game feels longer than it is. I want to replay it, but I'll probably wait awhile. It would be sweet to have a "short" mode that only takes about 3 hours (after completing the game once, of course), just to get the various endings and collectibles and such.
Overall, totally enjoyable, and I do look forward to revisiting it. I just wish the chapters were all a little tighter, and that you could get through them quicker if you desired.

So, I let my wife play the prologue and Chapter 1...

She jumped at nearly every jump scare, cursing at me for letting her continue to play it. I haven't had this much fun watching someone play a game since, well, ever.

This game is a lot of fun...it's basically by horror fans, for horror fans. It pretty much tries to hit as many tropes and genres as it can. Finished my first playthrough (lost three kids), going to go back and try and find collectibles and get a better ending.

I think this game is a blast. I've played it 3 times & can't wait for more. I like going back looking for different outcome, or different trophies. I hope there is a sequel.

Well, I played it about as badly as you could and ended with one survivor. I officially suck.
A couple of those deaths were just me making terrible choices. I will NEVER again criticize the idiotic decision making of characters in a horror film as clearly I am no better with them.

I might rent it from Gamefly to replay it some time. I like that I can replay the chapters so I wouldn't need to start at the very beginning in order to save some more of them.

I had no problem getting Best Buy to honor the price in their ad, no dice getting my GCU discount on top though unfortunately.
And my store didn't have any ad correction signs fwiw.

I finished today with 2 survivors, and I think I only got 2 trophies. I don't think it's worth $60, and my Best Buy ad this week didn't include it (evidently it was regional, and a mistake) although $40 may have been a stretch too. I enjoyed it, but I don't know that I would want to go all the way through again maybe a bit down the road?
Like Decker, I will probably go back at some point to finish the collectibles, and replay to save some more survivors. It will have to be under $20 or another free redbox code for that to happen though.

Re: Until Dawn (PS4 - 8/25/15)
I ran into my friend who's daughter plays "Jess" in this today. I had seen him previously and congratulated him on how good his daughter's work was in the game, and told him about my game-playing experience.
Today when he saw me in the parking lot he said "Hey, have you killed my daughter again lately?"
I told him I had returned the rental, so she was likely safe until a Black Friday sale.
He also said that while she didn't get paid much for the work, it has gotten her some attention and notoriety. So that's a good thing. I told him she could be the next scream queen. I'd cast her in a horror movie after that.

Sequel? Maybe!

PSLS: What should we expect from Supermassive next? Any new games in the same genre or completely different/new projects? Is Until Dawn 2 being considered at all or is it too early?
I think that you should expect the team to build on what we’ve done with Until Dawn, whether it’s in horror or in other genres. We’re already working on one thing that does that, whilst exploring other avenues for our other teams in anticipation of them finishing their current projects. We do talk internally about what Until Dawn 2 could be, as it clearly can’t be a sequel in the traditional sense, with the same characters facing the same threat, not least of which because in different stories some or all of them are already dead! We’ve investigated other ways we could do Until Dawn 2 but it probably is a little early to be discussing that.

Re: Until Dawn (PS4 - 8/25/15)
I really enjoyed this game. It was cheesy, but in the best ways. The older I get, the more I appreciate games that are concise, and Until Dawn didn't have a lot of fat on it.
The only problem, as others have stated, is the walking. I would have been ok with them forcing you to walk in some instances, but the characters should have been running in many of the situations they found themselves in. So not only was it irritating having to move so slow, but it was also immersion breaking having a guy walk after hearing one of his friends scream like death for help.
I was always holding L1 to walk faster, and because of that I failed a few of the quicktime events because my button presses didn't register. That was a bummer. It was also a bummer to only have ONE survivor! Which I think means I sucked at this game, but it was so nice to be bad at a game and still be able to move forward. If I made a dumb choice, that just meant someone got killed, not that the game was over. That wouldn't fly for most games, but it really worked here.
Looking around a bit, it seems like Until Dawn presents the illusion of choice really well, because I really thought there were more divergent paths than there seems to be. But I think, just like Walking Dead, all that matters is how the choices feel while in the game, as opposed to what you learn about how much your choices mattered after the game.
