Super Mario Maker (9/11/15; Wii U)
Some of the crazy stuff reviewers and Nintendo staff have dreamed up:

Reviews are through the roof!
Giant Bomb - 5/5
IGN - 9/10
Polygon - 9.5/10
Destructoid - 8/10
GameSpot - 9/10
Kotaku - "Yes"
Game Informer - 9/10
Only bummer is no vertical levels, and no mid-level checkpoints.
Hopefully those will come soon with an update.

Still, I'm in! Finally got around to pre-ordering.

Save $20 on select games at Best Buy with purchase. Might be a good way to grab Splatoon. $80 for both games with GCU doesn't seem too bad.

Just like limiting some of the tools, doling them out over the course of 10 days, this might be their way of initially limiting things so people don't bite off more than they can chew, keeping the levels small and tight for now, letting people learn the initial steps of level creation, before opening things up and letting people get really crazy later down the road.

What's the availability on the "8-bit" Mario amiibo? I normally wouldn't be interested, but this one looks pretty cool and seems to do quite a bit with this game.

Unclear, unfortunately. Everyone's kinda moved away from preorders of Amiibo because they've been such a mess, so we won't really know until tomorrow. Amazon will have them up late tomorrow afternoon for sure.

Does this game have an offline level creator? like if I were to make a level showing on the tablet and once completed the second player is challenged to complete the course on their controller?

There's no multiplayer at all, but you don't have to create levels online, so you can arrange that whole thing yourself. There are some things you can only do on your console, like record your own sounds.
Target was sold out of the 8-bit Mario Amiibos by the time I got there. There was actually a Nintendo rep at Walmart, and she said that the only 8-bit Marios that Walmart was getting were part of the bundle. (I think she might've been misinformed since they're sold individually on walmart.com, but whatever.)

Yeah, it seems like the 8-Bits are hard to come by. My Target only had 4 of them. With the hype surrounding this game I can't believe they didn't make more.

I managed to get all of this wave of Amiibo. Now to get through this work day, so I can play some Maker!

Re: Super Mario Maker (9/11/15; Wii U)
She asked me which 8-bit Mario I wanted, and then said the only 8-bit Amiibo this store was carrying is the modern one in the bundle. Since the answer was "can't get it" either way, I don't know why she asked me which one I wanted, but...
She might've been right. The in-store inventory checker on walmart.com doesn't show the classic 8-bit Amiibo as being available in any store near me. Ditto for Target. I didn't have my heart set on it, so I'm not crushed or anything.
I was surprised that Zero Suit Samus was so easy to find. I actually imported that one, assuming it'd be a nightmare to track down stateside. Plenty of Dr. Marios and Olimars too. No sign of Ganondorf or Bowser Jr., tho'.

Well, I went to the Best Buy near my work to pick up the game when they opened. They were totally deserted and they actually had a couple copies of the 8-bit Mario, so I picked that up along with the game. I should be able to dive into it some time tomorrow.

I have the game and the classic amiibo. When I put it on the game pad during s level it didn't do anything though. Not sure if the (official) case for the Gamepad is blocking whatever or if I'm not in a position to use it yet.
Also I tried playing some of the all time top rated levels (from around the world) and wasn't terribly impressed. I'm sure we'll see some good shit soon though. Not interested in seeing other users mostly useless comments throughout the levels, so I think I have those shut off as well.

Not sure if I'm able to access them yet - if they're part of the 10 Mario challenge then they've pretty short.
Also the elongated Mario is freaky as fuck (there's also a spread devoted to him in the manual).
Edit: starting to go through more of the player created levels. I take back what I said about comments, some can be pretty helpful, but I've turned them off to try levels without assistance.
Edit: the Amiibo thing is available. I just hadn't advanced enough in the 'making' portion of the game.

Made my first course if someone wants to try it out. Pretty basic so far, just getting my feet wet.

Trying out your course. Got my ass handed to me at the very beginning. :lol
Edit: man this is some Lost Levels shit. I got to the flagpole a few times but was denied.
On another note, I think this game should have some kind of reward or incentive for finding more coins or getting one ups. The exploration angle isn't really an incentive, and one ups don't matter really. Could be like Mario Bros DX for Game Boy Color where you get stuff for getting every coin in the level (or something similar).
