Xbox One controller problems

So I finally decided to join the next gen crowd and got myself an Xbox One but haven't been able to get the original controller to turn on. I have scoured the internet for a solution, replaced the batteries twice, hard reset of system, hooked it to the console via USB and tried the sync buttons and still nothing. Can anyone help please and suggest anything, the console turns on it's the controller that is the problem.

Sounds like you've tried everything I would have tried. It could just defective controller.

try a new controller to see if it works. you could always return it...
