Re: Horizon Zero Dawn - PS4

Even with the possible little flaws people might point out on this one, it's an absolute no-brainer right now. Plus it's the Complete edition!

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn - PS4

I went ahead and bought it yesterday. I have bought so many games, that I should be able to fill my next three years of gaming time.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn - PS4

Finally finished The Frozen Wilds DLC this evening.

The last two battles in the Main Quest were insane.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn - PS4

The ending pretty much indicated there would be a sequel, no?

A number of newly published job listings from Guerrilla Games suggests the studio is indeed working on a sequel to its 2017 open world action game Horizon Zero Dawn, with one vacancy in particular seemingly confirming the project's existence outright. The Amsterdam-based creator of the Killzone series recently posted a vacancy for a Technical Vegetation Artist, which would focus on "the creation of vegetation assets that are used to dress the game world." The listing explains that "within Guerrilla, we have four teams dedicated to creating the stunning environments of Horizon [and] one team focuses on the creation of lush and stunning vegetation."

Yep, the ending pretty much sets up a sequel. Hopefully it comes out a year or two after the new console.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn - PS4

I bought this game a few years ago... played for an hour. Then went back to Breath of the Wild, but always intended to go back to it, but then Spider-man was released and that took up my free time.

Fast forward to last night, where I popped the game back in the old PS4 and quickly caught back up and then some.

Played it for 6+ hours today and ended my day...
Spoiler:
Leaving Mother’s Heart after being made a Seeker and defeating the “demon machine”... not find a Strider to control.

I’m really enjoying it.

Well, I’m at the end of Cauldron SIGMA and I’m whittling away at a creature I am way under equipped to fight. Wish me luck. I think I’ll succeed... eventually.
Spoiler:
...it’s a Fire Bellowback and all I have are normal and fire arrows... but my shock traps are working okay, I just need to get a better handle on the controls.

Have you crafted any
Spoiler:
Tearblast Arrows
throughout the game? Those did so much heavy lifting for me when I initially played the game.

I ended up setting the play mode to “Story” and walked through that battle. When I got topside, I found a merchant, got a bow capable of that and got some ammo. I’m all good to go now.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn - PS4

I’m still enjoying the game but man, some of the battles are intense.

First you find yourself fighting a pair of Ravagers, then two Chargers show up, then a convoy of two Shell Walkers with two Watchers, come down the lane... and then you see four Glinthawks coming over the ridge... GOOD GRIEF.

By the way, I just got done climbing to the top floor of the building...
Spoiler:
... and met Lance Reddick face-to-face (through the Focus). So cool.

I had so much fun with that Ammo.

It's awesome to just see parts fly off of enemies, giving you an advantage when fighting many of them.

I had forgotten to switch ammo when i got ambushed above by some bandit archers, so I show up there and the tear arrow sent out a shockwave and blew them all off the roof.

I put that up there with the first time I accidentally used an Ancient Arrow on a pesky pack of wolves in BOTW.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn - PS4

PC version reviews are starting to come out. Some performance issues at 4k and there's no DLSS 2.0 support which is a massive bummer. Otherwise people seem to be pretty smitten with this game at/above 60 fps (PS4/Pro version is capped at 30). Additionally, a lot of positive comments for the keyboard and mouse crowd as the precision apparently adds a lot.

Look forward to giving the game another shot when it drops in price. I sold my PS4 copy a while back (albeit at 1080p/60fps with an Xbox One controller.)

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn - PS4

Reviews have all pretty much been negative in regards to the PC port, as there are many issues... not just "some performance issues at 4K". I'd stay far away and wait to see if the issues ever get patched.

Yeah, the initial reviews focused on choppy 4k, the ones that followed were nowhere near as nice.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn - PS4

Hopefully they'll fix it. It's an amazing game. Just wish they wouldn't rush out ports.

Death Stranding port on PC is rock solid and I'm enjoying the hell out of it right now. 50+ hours so far and no crashes with a solid 60fps on the highest settings.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn - PS4

In an effort to clear out my backlog, I've been burning through Horizon. Great game so far; I have the map open except for one more tall neck, or whatever they're called.

Does this game have any way to effect the time of day? I usually don't have an issue with it but this game during the night is very hard to see. Even when it's actually night out and I don't have any bright lights on.

Also, is there any specific side content that's definitely worth doing? I probably won't go for a full completion so I can move on to something else. I know I'll be completing all the cauldrons; I think I only have 2 left. No way I'll be grinding for every hunting ground trophy for the "Lodge" gear/weapons.

Anybody on the fence about this awesome gem, Sony is offering it up as a free download (including all the extra stuff/DLC) next month as part of their PlayAtHome series.

An update just went up to allow 4K/60fps on the PS5.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn - PS4

When my 18yo son got COVID in May, he asked if he could put the PS4 in his room and play HZD... I said okay.

Well, today he finished the main game in just under 48 hours (76.8%) and will be moving on to the Frozen Wilds. (I'm at 97.6% and just under 100 hours, and I've beat the main game and the expansion.)

He really enjoyed the game. Loved the stories.

So I asked him to compare HZD and TLoZ:BotW... and he liked the graphics and story of HZD but he did like the gameplay and variety of monsters in BotW.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn - PS4

I started playing this Sunday night and I'm really enjoying it so far. I was out trying to gather fire arrows for one of the first main quests and people starting yelling at me to help them so I've been doing side quests. I haven't even gotten to The Proving yet. I'm not great at stealth, I've been trying to pick off the dinosaur robots from a distance currently. It's been working, but I've been outnumbered by dino robots running toward me at times. It's pretty fun though.

Do I need to finish the main game before starting The Frozen Wilds or can I start that campaign before?

You don't need to finish the main game, but Frozen Wilds is pretty difficult. It's recommended Aloy be around level 50, I believe.
