XCOM 2 (PC Nov 2015, Console ?)
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2E_-2wIJIzQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/06/...nced-ign-first Last week, 2K teased us with a cryptic website: AdventFuture.org. On it, a supposedly utopian near-future government called the Advent Administration offered a better life for citizens through genetic enhancement, while hackers subversively replaced text and images revealing that Advent isn’t as benevolent as it seems. Today, IGN First officially announces that the game 2K hinted at is in fact Firaxis Games’ XCOM 2, a full sequel to 2012’s critically acclaimed XCOM: Enemy Unknown and a continuation of the now 20-year-old legendary turn-based tactical squad combat series, which will be available exclusively on PC this November. Watch the debut trailer above for a glimpse into a future where the aliens are in control of the Earth, and XCOM has gone underground to fight to overthrow their Advent government. This new guerrilla force will face more powerful enemies in unpredictable combat scenarios as they fight to turn the tables on a technologically superior enemy. I never did finish the campaign for Enemy Unknown, I should really go back and finish playing. |
Re: XCOM 2 (PC Nov 2015, Console ?)
Enemy Unknown was fantastic. Enemy Within was good too. I'm down for this one.

Re: XCOM 2 (PC Nov 2015, Console ?)
I love turn-based strategy games. It's probably my favorite genre. I have spent thousands upon thousands of hours playing games like XCom, Civilization, Heroes of Might and Magic, and so on.
I love the XCom games except for that last one they decided to turn into a generic FPS game. This new XCom looks to be a return to the old turn-based strategy, so I'm definitely in. |
Re: XCOM 2 (PC Nov 2015, Console ?)
As long as this ends up on console eventually too, I'm in. Had a ton of fun with Enemy Unknown (it did take me two play throughs to get the hang of it), need to go back again for the achievement where you have one character that plays every mission. I started it (nicknamed my character Steve Rogers, hopefully somebody gets that reference) but not completed. I do have Enemy Within as well, but never played it. Loads of fun once you understand what the heck you are doing.

(I assume you are talking about Captain America, the "super soldier", and not some other obscure Steve Rogers.) |

That's not an obscure reference, so I would be surprised if there is anybody that didn't get it. After all, Avengers and Age of Ultron are two of the biggest Hollywood blockbusters in recent years.

Yep, but I bet most of the movie going public probably refers to him as Cap or Captain America and forgot his real name a few movies ago when they were introducing him. Anyway, moving on...it just seemed to fit. Too bad there aren't more customization options in X-Com.
I think Enemy Unknown didn't have much customization because it was "dumbed down" for consoles. I loved the game, but it definitely felt that way compared to previous games in the series that were designed for PCs only. The new XCom appears to be PC only as well, so maybe it won't be dumbed down. Enemy Unknown sold poorly on consoles, so I guess that's why the new game is going back to PC only. The PS3 version sold 0.5 million, the Xbox360 version sold 0.6 million, and the PC version sold 2.6 million. Re: XCOM 2 (PC Nov 2015, Console ?)
Hrmmm, and the shooter did even worse business (and they don't even list Enemy Within)...oh well, I guess I'll just play the three I got then. Kinda a shame, heck I would even settle for an XBLA title of some sort.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a console port later.

Re: XCOM 2 (PC Nov 2015, Console ?)
Should be easier to port though thanks to the consoles all being x86, so even if they're not huge sellers I imagine the cost wouldn't be that crazy.
Meanwhile, long new interview about the game. http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/06/...ign=Coverstory Some bits - For Firaxis’ second XCOM, Creative Director Jake Solomon and his team are going in an entirely different direction: instead of changing the setting, they’re changing history to make XCOM the underdog again. How? Surprise: You didn’t beat the aliens – they steamrolled you. Solomon painted an alternate version of how the war unfolded: “When the aliens showed up, XCOM suffered massive casualties, and governments around the world crumbled in face of popular support to surrender. Then, the Earth was quickly overrun. And so, 20 years into the future, the world is a very different place. The aliens rule Earth from giant shining megacities where all the people of Earth are flocking; that’s where they’re promised an easy life, a secure life free of disease.“ First of all, we have a new team of battle-hardened XCOM soldier classes that are similar to Enemy Unknown’s, but distinct. The Sharpshooter shares a lot of DNA with EU’s Sniper, but can also specialize in using a pistol as a primary weapon instead of a last resort. The Ranger is the evolution of the Assault class, still specializing in close combat with shotguns and the like, but now comes equipped with XCOM’s first lethal melee weapon: a machete-like blade. The Grenadier? He (or she) blows things up, much like the Heavy. The Specialist replaces Support, and uses a hovering drone called a Gremlin both in combat to stun enemies and buff allies, and out of combat to pull off tricks like long-range hacking. There’s also a fifth mystery class that Firaxis is saving for reveal closer to launch. |

Re: XCOM 2 (PC Nov 2015, Console ?)
Seriously though, I hope Microsoft is considering bringing the two 360 strategy titles to BC for the One. It's getting decent votes at their official forum, but nothing ground breaking unfortunately. |
Re: XCOM 2 (PC Nov 2015, Console ?)
This sucks. I'm not getting it now. Just not a big PC gamer anymore.

Re: XCOM 2 (PC Nov 2015, Console ?)
Delayed until Feb 5, 2016.
http://www.polygon.com/2015/8/28/922...-date-february Which is probably a good idea as this seems like the type of game that would get lost among all the other big games this holiday. |

Nice. This is what I'll be spending most of my February with, I think. Really happy to see these reviews.

Re: XCOM 2 (PC Nov 2015, Console ?)
Glad to see the awesome reviews...now somebody important enough needs to convince them that they are leaving money on the table by not porting this to XB1/PS4.

Re: XCOM 2 (PC Nov 2015, Console ?)
Spent about an hour with this today. Made it through the tutorial and the first mission. What I've played so far is excellent.
Also, I found myself with some leftover Christmas and birthday gift cards and decided to pick up a Steam controller too. It took a good 20 minutes to really wrap my head around using it but as of now I really like it a lot. We will see how much I use it after I'm through with Xcom though. |
Re: XCOM 2 (PC Nov 2015, Console ?)
 AND ITS COMING TO XBOX ONE/PS4. HAPPY DAY!!!
http://kotaku.com/xcom-2-coming-to-c...ber-1781017148 Also, the original (if you have Xbox Gold) is free for two weeks on XB360/XB1 users come the middle of this month. (If you already have Unknown you can also play it on your XB1 through Backwards Compatibility). I'm hoping that Within will be a packin with 2 when it gets released. Made my freaking month. |
Re: XCOM 2 (PC Nov 2015, Console ?)
Not surprised, despite other people's claims here earlier :p
