For those who backed the PS4 version of the game, you can check your backer page on Fangamer and get a code for a Dynamic Theme. It's not very dynamic, but it's still nice with some good music.
Still no DLC, I guess.

BB has the PS4 & XB1 versions on sale for $30 ($24 w GCU) and it comes with the steelbook now. For that price I'll pick up a copy.

As primarily a PC gamer, that's where I'm gonna end up getting the game down the road when it hits a good sale. Got enough games to tide me over on my backlog anyways.

It's a cool game. Well worth it at that price. Worth it even at full price -- just not at the price I paid for it.

PS4, XB1, and Switch versions are $29.99 at Best Buy this week. It doesn't look like it comes with the steelbook anymore though.

I've been digging this game way more than I was expecting. I love Metroidvanias but I've never been able to get into Symphony of the Night or the other Castlevania titles. I bought this on a whim and I was pretty instantly hooked. I'm about 12 hours in and at about 70% map completion. I really like the look of the game and the variety to the weapons/shards.

Dang. Switch version still not updated, the Japanese version's not even out for another month, they "promise" that the rest of the backer rewards are shipping out any day now and everyone could've just waited to play this game for "free." Ah well, at least it's not a PS Plus freebie (yet).

Re: Bloodstained: RotN (Steam, PS4, XB1, Switch: 2019)

I bought and played through this on PC. I swear I read some mixed reactions at some point that put a damper on it but naw, it was a really solid entry for the genre. Even with some weird art style choices it still looked stunning in spots and was a lot longer than I expected (got to about 98.5% completion).

Quirky game that obviously knows exactly what it is. The shard system was well implemented.

Re: Bloodstained: RotN (Steam, PS4, XB1, Switch: 2019)

Started and beat this over the weekend. Overall enjoyed it but my god I don't miss games that give you no idea on what to do next. Hunting around a bit is fine, but the hints on what to do next (specifically the armor you need to run through spikes) were confusing at best. I had to use a guide in a couple of spots just to get me on the right track.

Re: Bloodstained: RotN (Steam, PS4, XB1, Switch: 2019)

i could’ve sworn I got it when it was free. And even thought I saw in collection many times. Did it leave GP? Is that why I had to buy it (though had $50 credit so it paid for it)?

Having fun so far. Never thought I would. not a bad game so far. Easy enough to follow RPG mechanics. Easy to maneuver the menus. Not too hard, except final boss of first level, but I’ll figure it out. When you die you do sometimes backtrack a ways to last save and that could be a ways way from that final battle. Would have been so much better to have a save room right before fight, but whatever. ***edit, there is I just didn’t find it till today, but didn’t die and thus didn’t need*** Fluid mechanics, very simple, but useful map. Not bad at all for a 2-D Igavania game.

Re: Bloodstained: RotN (Steam, PS4, XB1, Switch: 2019)

I am really loving this and getting addicted. It is quite fun. Seems so simple on the outside, but once you peel back the layers…

Seriously, I love finding hidden rooms, exploring, figuring how to use stuff. Opening more of world. Side missions. Didn’t think a 2D side scroller would have that.

The different weapons. Armor, stuff to wear.

Still don’t understand it all. like the little blue numbers that look like go up in some stats. And not sure what all stats are. Really only focused on Health and MP.

Especially what to sell and what not to. I mean I got rid of weapons I wasn’t using and bout a better one, but like other stuff like ghost ectoplasm or something. Like I don’t know if I need it later or not.

And not a huge fan of respawning same enemies even go through a door back and forth really quick, but so far been easy enemies and I got a big flaming sword rn.

So yeah, lot of depth to what I thought was just a Metroid-like in substance (meaning not so RPGish) game.

Lot of fun. I know SotN gets heralded now, but I saw video review and graphics and would be such a step down from Bloodstained if played next.

What else is like Bloodstained and real good for XB 1 or can get for Series X? Was surprised, I believe this has quick resume feature. Thought only optimized games had that. But do think I saw on top right corner.

SotN is still pinnacle of the genre for me but Blasphemous, Axiom Verge and Hollow Knight are all pretty solid. The 8-bit Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 1 & 2 are also great, as is the 8-bit looking very short Cave Story.

I never thought a 2D side scroller from a bygone era, made today, could be so much fun and addicting. Itís a pretty expansive game thus far. It grows and builds. Really wonderful stuff.

I don't understand what this means. There are 2D side scrollers coming out regularly every year and highly rated ones. They are not from a bygone era. There have been first person shooters being made for like 40 years you wouldn't call the new Call of Duty from a bygone era.

K. Still love this game and haven’t played anything like it since 2D scrollers on NES.

Ever since Konami and seemingly Nintendo stopped making them, indies have really picked up the slack in terms of metroidvanias (though often combined with rogue lite gameplay) Youíve never played, for instance, Hollow Knight?

No, I just downloaded it, but from reviews and footage looks more like an Ori type game (with that preciseness in movement and double jumps and stuff that you find somewhere), still 2D scroller, but different and not sprite-like 2D go through one room to another, gain powers, stuff (much greater detail than Metroid of course) like Metroid games of old and Castlevania on like Gameboy.

Uh... "go through one room to another, gain powers, stuff" is exactly what Ori does as well... I'm failing to see the distinction here, besides the fact that this game is basically exactly like the old GBA Castlevanias by design.

Re: Bloodstained: RotN (Steam, PS4, XB1, Switch: 2019)

Ori is art and gorgeous to look at and marvel. The story is rich and beautiful. Plus, you die. A lot and easily at one false imprecise movement of the joystick. The 2 couldn’t be more dissimilar in look, feel and certainly style. This is call back to Castlevania when it was 8-bit or whatever. This is of course spruced up and looks great, but in an entirely different way than Ori. Entirely.
