DEAD ISLAND 2 DELAYED TO 2016
Deep Silver has announced Dead Island 2 has been delayed from spring 2015 to sometime next year.
The announcement was made via the game's Twitter, where the studio also explained why the decision was made.
"We have always set ourselves a big goal for Dead Island 2: to create the sequel that takes Dead Island to the next level," a statement reads. "A game that takes what our fans tell us they love about Dead Island – multiple different characters to play with, co-op, and turning a paradise setting into a zombie slaughter melee – and a game that adds a ton more content and combat options on top of that.
"And we wanted to have all of that that done for release in Spring 2015. We have been looking at the game long and hard, and we have decided we didn’t reach that goal we set out to achieve quite yet. This is why we have decided to delay Dead Island 2 to 2016.
"Right now we are focusing purely on development, and we will have more info to share at a later stage. We know that our fans will be disappointed by this news, but by giving Dead Island 2 more time we are confident that everyone will get a better game to play as a result."

They haven't shown any actual gameplay. It was one of those overly-optimistic target dates that nobody takes seriously. Remember when Dying Light was going to release last spring? Nobody believed that or was surprised by a delay, either.

It's not that weird. Deep Silver parted ways with Techland (developers of the first DI) as well. Sounds like a situation where the suits at the publishing company have a "different vision" for the franchise than the artists and developers making it.

YAGER MANAGING DIRECTOR DISCUSSES BEING DROPPED FROM DEAD ISLAND 2
Speaking with GamesIndustry, Yager managing director Timo Ullman explained the departure was a mutual agreement due to differences of opinion, likely due to the fact that the studio operates on being an independent AAA studio.
"Our team is made of the best creative minds and tech specialists, who all share a common identity," Ullman said. "The team worked with enthusiasm to take Dead Island 2 to a new level of quality. However, Yager and Deep Silver's respective visions of the project fell out of alignment, which led to the decision that has been made."
Yager is best known for the development of Spec Ops: The Line and is also currently working on a space combat game called Dreadnought. Ullman also teased that the studio had a few other projects lined up. Although he wasn't able to go into further detail, he did say "Gamescom will be awesome."

If Dead Island II can come close to or equal Dying Light I'm in. Three of us have been playing it co-op for two weeks now and by far one of the best co-op experiences I've had.

LittleBigPlanet 3 developer Sumo Digital has taken over the development of the beleaguered Dead Island 2... Aside from taking on LittleBigPlanet 3, Sumo's perhaps most well-known for its racing game prowess, developing Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed and encompassing members of staff from now-defunct driving experts, Bizarre Creations.

If that release date holds, it’ll have been nearly a decade between announcement and release.
