Reviews are out and it sounds like something I can wait for a sale. Probably gonna get Jedi day one instead.

I think I would get this day one if Jedi Survivor and Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster weren’t coming out. But I’ll also wait for a sale.

I went ahead and got this. It's pretty damn fun. I really liked the first two Dead Island games and this one feels like a refined version of those. The LA setting is a good twist. It's pretty difficult tho. I've died probably 20 times already and only through 3 chapters. It's worth the price to me, love these games.

This is technically the 3rd title in the series. There was Riptide which is considered a side game.

I rented it from GameFly. It’s surprisingly fun. Definitely worth a look.

re: Dead Island 2

Just bought it from GameFly. As someone who was famously down on Deep Silver's last game Saints Row, and as someone who typically hates zombie games, I have to say, this game is fantastic and so much fun. It just keeps moving, is hilarious, looks good, and most importantly isn't very hard, and if you die, it's a quick restart from a generouscheckpoint with little to no penalties. I get so frustrated with zombie games that are all about sneaking around and avoiding confrontations. This is just about killing as many zombies in as many creative ways as possible.
I think the game bombed, which is a shame. It's very solid and I bet it's a blast in co-op mode.

Dead Island 2 was the #2 selling game when it was released in April (behind only Jedi Survivor) and had the 2nd best launch of 2023 up to that point (again, behind only Jedi Survivor). Deep Silver reported that it was the biggest launch they'd ever had.

The numbers weren't stratospheric or anything, and I'm not sure what kind of legs the game had after launch, but it seemed like it performed above expectations. I haven't ordered a copy for myself yet, but I'm sure I will when the Black Friday-type sales start going.

Totally agree--this game is TONS of fun. Played it all the way through and am still drawn back to side missions, etc. I played as Dani and was extremely happy with my choice--super funny and great skills. Definitely recommend this one.

Re: Dead Island 2

Finished the game today. 39 hours in. Didn't really have any issues with difficulty until the final Boss. Once I enabled different Skills so I could rack up a second Fury, he wasn't hard at all either. I had a blast. It's just such a fun game with enough variety that it never becomes just a button masher, no matter how strong you or your weapons get, you still have to mix up your strategies and weapons. That's just smart game design. This game is a winner. I am not sure if I will come back for side missions but glad I got it out of the way before BG3 and Starfield hit this weekend.
