Killing time while the elder daughter was playing in the HS basketball band tonight, I stopped in at BB and picked up Ghostbusters, Cyberman, and Doc Brown sets. With the 50% sale on fun packs, my GCU, and $30 in RZ certs that were about to expire, I walked out for $6.
Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good.

Been going through the story mode and dimensions is one hell of a good time. The Dr who part of story mode is awesome. I will say the constant portal use is tiring

I've finished everything there is to do in the levels with the exception of the few things where Aquaman is needed. Good times. Still have some work to do in the worlds - the races suck . Have about 310 Gold Bricks right now.
There are also some Defender platform spots that in the levels, not sure what those are going to be, if anything. I guess we'll see when the Midway set comes out.

I just got this with the Ghostbusters set and the BTTF set. Haven't tried either but the base game is a lot of fun. My wife and I were cracking up and my son really liked it, too.
Question: Does the base stay lit the whole time or just while the console is on? I was watching Netflix and it stayed lit. Kind of distracting.

I think if you make a point to actually quit the game, it'll turn off. Otherwise the game is basically still running in the background.

Finally cracked this open with the kids yesterday. Decent game and it's fun being able to mash up properties.
That being said, what a buggy P.O.S. Characters have gotten stuck on scenery numerous times but that's nothing compared to the game locking up four times in two play sessions. We have the WiiU version, which is a probably a minority on this forum. So has anyone on other platforms had the same issues?

I haven't played this yet, but isn't being extremely buggy pretty much a staple of the LEGO video game franchise?

Re: LEGO Dimensions (Multi-Console, 9/27/2015)
I've had characters get stuck inside things on the PS4, although it seems like that's the most common open world game bug there is. It's never been gamebreaking for me in Lego Dimensions, at least.
One repeated headache I've had is falling into something fatal, and then my character immediately respawns over that death-pit. There's no way to easily break out of it; taking the figure off the Toy Pad does nothing, and the controller doesn't respond to the 'change character' button. Physically unplugging the Toy Pad has gotten me out of other jams, so if it happens again, that's what I'll try.
I was replaying the final level last night. (Bizarrely, the first time I beat the game, I got the "completed all levels" trophy but not the level-specific one. I think it's because I dropped out and then rejoined after one of those infinite death loops.) It took four attempts to make it through because the game was so friggin' glitchy. Necessary items/events just wouldn't spawn. Enemies I was supposed to destroy would be in a weird place or never drop anything, and in another part, the characters appeared in a stage but nothing else did: no studs, no enemies, no purple pod things for Bane to smash...nothing. The only recourse was to restart the level entirely, losing something like 10-15 minutes of progress each time. I also had one hard crash yesterday, and it came during the last puzzle before the final boss which again reset something like 10-15 minutes of work.
I also started getting a bunch of "Toy Pad Disconnected" errors that'd go away a second or two later even though it's well-seated and all that jazz. It only started doing that to me in the last few levels, playing without issue for weeks on end before that. The total crashes have been the most frequent annoyance.

I am on 360. the only tech issues I have had from time to time is during puzzles where you have to move the figures to the different colors on the portal. Sometimes I have to remove all the figures from the portal to "reset" it so to speak then put them back on. It just doesn't register sometimes during those kinds of puzzles. I have had a couple of crashes, but nothing that doesn't happen in all games.
I hope the next game doesn't have the constant portal use. It gets tedious and I don't like having to be right beside the portal all the time. If the game wants that it needs to have a wireless portal so I can put it on the little table beside my recliner

That would be nice. I have about a 20 ft USB extension cable so I can have it set up next to our recliners. Wireless would be a big improvement.

Skylanders *used* to have a wireless portal on the Wii and PS3. People complained about connectivity issues and mostly about battery use (I guess they'd never heard of rechargeables - worked great for us). They went fully wired for all consoles starting with Giants (mainly because of the Light Core figures which burned through batteries) - we just used the first one with that game. Since the old portals wouldn't work with Swap Force that move forced me to get and use a USB extender cable as what's provided is not nearly long enough for my house/setup. I'd still rather have a wireless option.

that is the biggest reason i haven't finished the game yet. i really hate the puzzles with the blobs of color and you have to get all your figs a different color then match colors on the portal. The portal won't recognize shit correctly alot of the time and you have to take all the figures off to reset it and then keep trying and hope for the best. Not sure why they felt the need to make the player use the portal so much for puzzles.

Puzzles are fine for me - it helps to have a 2nd person around sometimes to move stuff. I suck at the races, especially the water/air ones.

I think it's because they want people to touch and interact with these figures, not just drop them on the Toy Pad and forget about 'em, and this is the best they could come up with. I'm not a fan either, though.
