Fuck it, I'm cancelling my preorder. I was already on the fence since I'd be playing Guitar until a decent solution comes around for the Ion drums. This whole thing seems like one mega clusterfuck.

Lordie, that's not catering to the high-user crowd (which I would say many of us fit into)...I mean I have 500-600 songs and I know plenty of us are more than that....I don't feel like clicking that many times. Ugh...there has got to be some way to streamline it. Harmonix has to think of something, even a helper app that you could snap next to RB4 while you are playing would at least do some good. This doesn't sit right at all....ugh.

I read that there's also no way to create a playlist in quickplay either.

I have no idea what the fuck HMX was thinking. You don't add a bunch of features through the life cycle of a franchise, and then strip everything away to something more barebones than RB1 and expect everyone to be okay with it.

Figured as much. Why would anyone think otherwise?

Song load times are mere seconds long on this Harmonix live stream.

Edit: Yep, this is being played on XB1 and load times are only 4-8 seconds.

Because the thought of clicking download 100's of times in a row makes my 40 year old fingers scream and weep loudly. That's why.

Their DLC has always been an unwieldy beast. Going cross gen like this I was expecting something ten times more convoluted.

Re: Rock Band 4 (XB1/PS4, 2015)

No, chuck, it's not a complicated process of saying

"Hey, [DLC provider], what content does [logged in user] have rights to? Cool, thanks!

Hey, Local Filesystem, what content is currently installed? Sweet action!

Okay, Memory, your turn! Please cross-reference and create three sets of data: 1) Not purchased, 2) Purchased but not installed, and 3) Installed.

Cool, cool, cool.

Okay, let's hope the UI team put logic behind that "Restore All Purchases" button that you see so often in mobile apps so our beloved user, who would otherwise be inconvenienced to "scroll, click, confirm, wait" 100-1000 times, can get on with the gaming!

Good job team! Please recommence hacky-sack!"

You're making the assumption that HMX employees competent developers, pinata.

I didn't think a "download all" feature was likely, but I was hoping for one anyway.

The most aggravating thing is that this is like "assignment #3" in a Programming 101 class.

To be fair, there may be barriers from Microsoft and/or Sony that prevent them from implementing a feature like that.

Re: Rock Band 4 (XB1/PS4, 2015)

To import your owned tables from Pinball FX2, you just press a button to import you owned tables and then they're available to re-purchase one at a time. It could be like that. That wouldn't be so bad (though a little time-consuming).
If I have to scroll through 5000 songs in order to find the 400 I already own, that would truly suck.

I think someone said these will show up in your download history, so you can fetch everything from there (outside the game) without any distractions.

Shouldn't we be able to test that theory out now then? If not how did someone else? You don't need a copy of the game to do that.

My Download history is only slightly shorter and easier to navigate through than Roman History. They need a better solution than that.

Re: Rock Band 4 (XB1/PS4, 2015)

X1 or X360 download history? Because the former hasn't happened yet and the latter wouldn't help the X1. They are different pieces of DLC.

If they magically show up as "downloaded" on the X1 but didn't that doesn't help much either other than being able to click on them from a list.

The RB4 Music Store (in-game or standalone app) needs to manage all of this. Not just extending the license from "legacy" to "current" DLC, but to take it the next step and enqueue it for download. Or, at the very least, let us scroll through a "purchased" list and select a mass quantity to enqueue at once if a "Download All" isn't viable.

Is there any way to get the guitar separate from the game? I'd love to get the digital version and just buy the guitar.

They've said they'll have standalone instruments early next year. Mad Catz' priority is making instruments for bundles this holiday season.

So I'd have to wait? Hmm maybe I'll just buy the bundle and sell the game back right away. Lol.

That's exactly what I'm doing. I have the guitar bundle preordered and then I preordered it digitally and I'll just sell the physical game copy.

When I had to reset my Xbox One to factory settings and re-install/re-download everything, I could've sworn that all the associated DLC I had showed up with the games under Games/Apps, and reinstalling it was a breeze. Maybe I'm misremembering...?

It'll be messier on the PS4 -- which will be my headache, since I bought into Rock Band on the PS3 -- but most things are.

Re: Rock Band 4 (XB1/PS4, 2015)

Maybe. I just worry that there's going to be a manual step to apply the previous purchases on X360 DLC to mark the new X1 DLC as "purchased". If MS does that for us and all we have to do is "Manage" the Rock Band 4 game on the X1, it might be a lot easier.

I also have no experience with the PS4.
