Came here to say "Oh cool, U2 is finally in Rock Band!" but it seems like if I did people would just lash out.

Not me. I'm stoked and will certainly buy all the DLC. Top 5 artist for me.

I don't really like U2 except for maybe 2 or 3 songs, but I can acknowledge that this is a big get for Harmonix.

Good to see U2 in the mix ... wouldn't mind playing "The Fly"

U2 is a much bigger name than any of the other bands on their tracklist. I don't think it will move a lot of units, but it will be a popular song(s) at parties. Personally, I'm more excited for Weird Al. I would love to see something like Albuquerque in RB.

Yeah, maybe last year when 3 million people downloaded their song in a single hour during the Super Bowl, but now they're total has-beens.

Still popular, yes. Will they move the needle? Not notably.

I mean, Beatles Rock Band is considered a failure for pete (best's) sake.

In honor of the U2 announcement they should change the name of the whole game to Rock Band Catorce

There isn't a bigger band in the world than the Beatles and their stand alone game didn't sell nearly as well as most people thought it would. U2 is one of the best 5 bands that Rock Band could have gotten, but you won't see new RB players droping $150 for the 2 U2 songs. People like us will be more excited to get RB now, but it won't sway many who weren't going to get it before.

http://www.twitch.tv/thegametechnician

Guy playing RB4 now (got it from the Road Crew contest).

Menus look really plain.
Create-A-Character has barely any customization (no height/weight/style).
18 second load time for a single song.
No practice mode.

1. No biggie
2. Not a deal of large concern
3. That's unacceptable
4. Has there been priorly?

Re: Rock Band 4 (XB1/PS4, 2015)

My problem with this game is that almost everything seems like a step backwards. I cannot fathom how they weren't able to re-use some code from the previous games.

Online - every other RB game had it
Breakneck speed - RB2 (?) and on
Practice mode - Every RB (I think)
Detailed character creator - every game (except Beatles/Green Day)

What does this bring to the table?

Voting on songs - who cares?
freestyle guitar solos - Kinda cool, but I feel it won't be as good as they're playing it up to be
Singalongs - cool

I get what you're saying but I'm focused on it bringing these things to the table:

Rock Band
Songs

Everything else will (hopefully) come in time. I'm not in much rush. It's not like I personally played online. It's meant for me, my kids, and my friends in my house. I don't really need remote bandmates unless we are going for some achievement.

Maybe it's the first game of the next gen fuckup. Every game does that.

Problem is they've said this is the last Rock Band game and they're just going to patch things in. However, if it doesn't sell well enough because it's so barebones, then maybe they never get around to patching in things I find essential, like online play.

They're going by what people answered as their list of important features in the survey. Not enough people said online play was important. They couldn't guess that everyone staying silent on the matter really wanted online play.

I completely understand why they omitted certain features. Doesn't mean I can't be pissed about it. I also would think (no source) that people who played a lot online spent a lot of money on DLC. If you think about it, bands that played online had to buy the songs four times, instead of just once for the people that played at home.

I was getting a little excited these last couple weeks and was actually thinking about picking up an X1 and playing through all my DLC again (2000+ songs), but with watching the streamers yesterday, it's kinda killed my interest again. Maybe I'll jump in after a few patches. For the time being, I'll stick with Rocksmith.

I finally loaded the stream just to check out the loading time. It legit took 15 seconds from hitting the pad to the note track coming up. Oy vey...

Edit: The next song, Metropolis Part 1, did take 18 seconds. The previous one was the Rush song. I wonder if it's based on the track length? Terrible implementation.

Well it is the Xbox One version. You'd think less P's would result in faster load times.

Confirmed on Twitch (or so I'm told) that DLC will have to be re-downloaded song by song.
