Borderlands 3 (9/13/2019: PC, PS4, XB1, Stadia)
So, Gearbox made an announcement a few days ago that there would be an announcement today about the future of Borderlands. That announcement turns out to be that they are not working on a new Borderlands but want to be and they "need our help". Really? Couldn't you do this through twitter or without prior fanfare? I'll admit that I am not the biggest Borderlands fan out there despite getting the first two games the day each of them were released but this is downright silly.

That's a pretty lame announcement. Not quite as lame as announcing that Borderlands The Pre-Sequel would come out on last gen consoles only because that's what fans of the first two games had played them on, but close.

It's to not "suck" at the third, for this kind of game. They know it. Everyone knows it. If it gets close to perfection in the second game, the only way after that is just going down.
Yes, there are exceptions to the rule. But don't have high hopes here.

If they really haven't started working on BL3 yet then the game is probably 3 years off which is ridiculous planning on their part.

Yea...make one for Nex Gen only would be the first suggestion. And stay with what worked which to me the first game was almost flawless sheer fun., the Millions of Guns, Skill Tree, open world areas, 4-player co-op, able to trade weapons, a great variety of enemies and four different characters that were all fun to play with. To this day I still prefer the four original ones.

I think Randy Pitchford has made a comment on if BL1 would be ported to current gen and he said it would be based on the success of The Handsom Collection. To that I would ask why go backwards offering BL1 after you have to play BL2 and The pre-quell which makes zero sense. Sorry Randy...you need to get on board of Nex Gen 100% or you and Borderlands will be left in the dust.

Lame update, but I imagine they've probably been getting asked what's up. I've enjoyed the first two greatly, so as long as they stick with the same general formula, I'm cool.

The only thing I heard was they were adding Lady Hammerlock as a playable character. (Pre-sequel I believe)

Honestly, I'm curious to see how relevant Borderlands is going to be by the time this is even released. I would assume the earliest this would even come out would be 2017, and by that time there could be a new IP out that is doing it better in every way. Borderlands is always going to have a fan base, they are just missing out waiting so long to put a new entry out on current gen systems.

B2 plus all DLC plus Prequel is coming to next in March. They also added in 4 player local coop / split screen support on next gen consoles as well. I was at PAX South this weekend and saw the live gameplay during one of the planels.

There's no fucking way they haven't at least started something on BL3. I mean, Gearbox didn't even do the Pre-sequel, so I'm sure they've been working on BL3 in some capacity since they finished the last DLC for BL2. I'm sure they're just asking for input for finishing touches and/or DLC and that game is about 18 month off.

I can see where they might just want to release BL2 & The Prequel for current gen but not everyone will jump on board. I got The Last of Us simply because I came over from the 360 and heard nothing but great things about the game. But those who played the PS3 version didn't exactly jump right in. If you played the 360 or PS3 versions of BL2, got a new PS4 or XO, why get the same game that is going to be the same but better looking?
I'm sure or at least believe Pitchford and the Devs have got to see the sale figures of PS4 and Xbox One and see the future is there. But they simply cannot just re-hash the exact same game slapping a fancy paint job on it thinking everyone will jump for joy like they did with the 360 & PS3 versions.

Wonder how this will effect the next new Borderlands...if it does come at all...

Now they will want us to write the script as well. They should offer up a competition to the public for someone that can write an outline of the game, characters, plot and some dialogue. Offer them an opportunity to work at Gearbox if their idea is selected and moved forward in the process. The public is more apt to get involved if there is some sort of potential reward for doing so.

I hope Gearbox gets to visit the Borderlands archives and check out all the cool Borderlands models and drawings from all the Borderlands from the past, then make a douchey video about how much regard they have for the Borderlands franchise, then shit out a crummy game and blame another developer for it.
