Yeah the memes & pop culture references are fun, but they kinda went overboard with them.

Borderlands 3 "Built Specifically for Next-Gen Consoles"

The next Borderlands game will not be coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, 2K has confirmed. Speaking during parent company Take-Two's financial call last night, 2K president Karl Slatoff said that the next Borderlands game will be "built specifically for next-gen consoles.”

“Looking further ahead, we have robust long-term pipeline of titles in development, including ground-breaking new intellectual properties and new releases from our proven franchises,” said Slatoff. “For example, we can confirm that 2K and Gearbox Software will develop an all-new Borderlands game built specifically for next-gen consoles.”

I would say great news but with Gearbox and Pitchford I really don't know. frankly this should've been in the works long ago.

Wow, if it's for next-gen consoles, it will be several years away.

(Sorry, it's a pet peeve of mine. It's been over a year since they launched; stop calling it "next gen!")

re: Borderlands 3 (9/13/2019: PC, PS4, XB1, Stadia)

if true for either

Parent company Take-Two Interactive Software released the information its latest earnings report, revealing that a game that was set to be released this fiscal year has been pushed back.

"The highly-anticipated title from one of 2K’s biggest franchises, which had been planned for release during the current fiscal year, is now planned for launch during fiscal 2020 to allow for additional development time," the report states.

Previously, we speculated the upcoming title – which was announced during an earnings report from last year – could be a new BioShock game, after reports suggested 2K's work on the currently codenamed Parkside could be the next in the BioShock series.

It seems equally likely the secret project could be a new Borderlands game, especially now as Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford has recently stated Borderlands 3 won't be appearing at this year's E3 conference.

re: Borderlands 3 (9/13/2019: PC, PS4, XB1, Stadia)

As long as rumors and ifs and wishes and hope of a Borderlands 3 has been around....and even a Bioshock for the current Gen....it has also managed to have asking the same question; why so long?

....but what is apparent is Rage 2 has entered the picture that might fill that void....with a blend of Fallout, Mad Max, Borderlands, Doom apoclytic world. Though not out till next year, might force Gearbox into no-more delays and teasing everyone with tibets like a carrot in front of a horse leading us around.

Shame that Battleborne didn't take off and might be part of the reasoning of holding back on BL & Bioshock. I've played it and never understood why it didn't catch on...I guess because Overwatch came about the same time but the SP & co-op part is pretty fun. And Bioshock, played it on the 360 and was an amazing game. One can only imagine if it were built for current gen sysrtem. But another outfit is making one that many have thrown the Bioshock comparrion to....Atomic Heart....that looks very promising.

BL2 wasn’t a hit? I thought it was a big seller? I loved both titles it would be a shame if there isn’t a 3

Not as bad as it seems. FY can be between April 1, 2019 and March 31, 2020. My guess is this is fall 2019 release.

re: Borderlands 3 (9/13/2019: PC, PS4, XB1, Stadia)

https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2019/...-for-march-28/

Here at Ars, we're usually reluctant to write stories about the mere announcement that yet another announcement of a video game is coming soon. But we'll make an exception today for apparent news about Borderlands 3, the long-expected continuation of a popular shooter series that has been missing-in-action for years now.

The latest hint that the sequel is actually, finally ready to be shown off is a single tweet from the official Gearbox account. It shows a cel-shaded highway sign in a very Borderlands-style desert with the words "March 28 Boston MA" written on it.

That info corresponds to the time and place of PAX East, where Gearbox just happens to be hosting a "main theater show" at 2pm EDT on March 28. That presentation promises "never-before-seen reveals, exclusives, and surprises" according to its public schedule listing, which is pretty suggestive in and of itself.

As if that wasn't enough, the highway sign featured in the tweet is for "Exit 3." Go ahead, get the Half-Life jokes out of your system now...

The wait for a full-fledged new Borderlands has been so long now that the cheekily named (and surprisingly good) Borderlands: The Pre-sequel—intended to fill in the gap after 2012's Borderlands 2—is now over four years old itself. That game stuck to the Xbox 360 and PS3 (along with the PC) in 2014, meaning Borderlands 3 will likely be the first game in the series to debut on the latest generation of console hardware.

Since the Pre-sequel, we've seen Gearbox and publisher Take Two dip into the franchise for spin-offs and re-releases including Telltale's episodic, narrative-focused Tales from the Borderlands, 2015's remastered Handsome Collection, and last year's VR revamp of Borderlands 2. But Gearbox's development resources during that period were largely focused on titles like Battleborn, right up until that game's relatively quick demise.

Officially announced back in April 2016, the last public hint of Borderlands 3's progress came during an extremely brief Unreal Engine 4 tech demo at the Game Developers Conference two years ago. At the time, series scribe Mikey Neumann was announced as the writer for the game, but he left due to health concerns later that year, leaving the sequel's current writing direction in question.

Gearbox's Randy Pitchford (currently embroiled in some strange legal problems) also hinted at the game's development during PAX East 2017, saying that 90 percent of the company was "working on the thing I think most of you guys want us to be working on." Assuming he didn't mean Battleborn 2, we'll probably hear more about that development later this month.

re: Borderlands 3 (9/13/2019: PC, PS4, XB1, Stadia)

We've ben teased with high hopes of a Borderlands 3 for years and even if they actually show something, I have doubts as for us seeing it anytime soon...I'm tired of getting my hopes only to see it drag out and fade away. It's not like they had to make something from scratch and start fresh but we should've had a BL3 long ago. I wouldn't be shocked or surprised we get no real details on release or even..."Coming sometime in 2020"....

I actually think this comes out this year. It kind of needs to before people simply move on.

There's a couple replies to that Tweet from Xbox verified accounts. Wonder if it's going to end up being an Xbox exclusive?

I don’t see why this wouldn’t come out sooner rather than later. Hell 2K might already be working on. I loved the hell out of 1. Still loved 2, not as much as 1 and still have to finish. Started but abandoned the Pre-Sequel for one reason or another, but was still liking it. Try we’re all pretty successful and people love franchise. So this will be out before years end...

The original Borderlands GOTY edition is finally coming to PS4 & XB1. This damn thing should have been part of that collection in the first place.

AMEN!!!!....I'm sort of torn on this as they should've release this long ago and plus for the fact they have been milking BL 1 & 2 left and right. Should've had BL3 long ago....it's not like they had to start from scratch and invent the game all over. Not have to worry about making something as real looking as possible...it's freaking cell base.

I'd be tempted to get it and play again but at this point...nope. I played the heck out of it on the 360 with all four characters going thru it start to finish and had so many guns I had to use "Mule Characters" to hold them all. Even after not playing it so long...I bet I could find my way thru the game almost blindfolded...fun as heck and loads of laughs. For those who never played it...a must to do but I just want Borderlands 3 plain and simple.......

No thanks. The last thing I want in a new Borderlands game is Battle Royal.

Oh no, I was fine with some optional co-op, that didn't get in the way of my own single-player campaign, but if they're gonna force all this multiplayer shit, I think I'm out!
There are endless options for Battle Royal games if you're into that (many of the best ones are even free), forcing it onto Borderlands just because it's the new hotness reeks of desperation.

Wait, where did you get the idea that the game is a Battle Royal?

I'll wait and see what they have to say and show before passing judgement...I still have a very sour taste in my mouth from what Bethesada did with Fallout 76. Their latest update basically pushed the game even more further into the PvP area . But with all the Battle Royal rage going on, I wouldn't be surprised one bit that somehow and some way they incorporate it. I don't care what they do with it or any other PvP mode...as long as Borderlands remains true to the solo and co-op experience it had with BL 1 & 2 which made the game in the first place. But for gosh sakes....don't try to mix and blend PvP and PvE and above all else, focus on providing the PvE experience first.

"Unfortunately, the Borderlands engine only allows for four players and they have to be on the same team"
.
Maybe they can borrow that crappy outdated, over tweaked & updated ancient Creation Engine from Bethesada...at least they can get up to 24-25 players at once. Just have to make Borderlands look like some 70's Saturday Morning Cartoon......

Saw this over at Gamesradar where they broke down the trailer....makes you wonder....

20 things you missed in the new Borderlands trailer: Tiny Tina’s grown up, Lilith's your enemy (?), and Atlas might have a Psycho army

By Zoe Delahunty-Light 4 hours agoFeature The new Borderlands trailer is hiding a lot of secrets… 20, to be precise
