internet Archive Releases Thousands of Classic MS-DOS Games

Forgive me if this has been posted elsewhere - can't get the blasted search function to work.

If you like your game play pixelated and your background music repetitively bleeping, or if you just want to take a look at how far along video game design has come over the last thirty-or-so years, you’re in luck! The Internet Archive has just released a collection of over 2,000 MS-DOS games that you can play through your Internet browser right now.

The collection, which you can find right here, holds some popular titles you’ll probably recognize if you’re of a certain digital vintage including Q-bert, Ms. Pac Man, The Oregon Trail, Double Dragon and a couple of titles from the Street Fighter series, to name just a few. You’ll also find lesser known (at least to me) games, some of which are bound to generate a laugh or two such as Sex Vixens from Space, Tongue of the Fat Man and the inexplicable Captain Bible in the Dome of Darkness.

By the way, the page for these selections warns that the “EM-DOSBOX in-browser emulator” used to play these games can be a little buggy. So watch out for that I guess.
Checked it out briefly today. Oregon Trail and Avalon Hill's Kingmaker played great.

I'm so glad they have Jazz Jackrabbit :). One of my favorite games on PC growing up.

Sounds awesome. Somewhere lawyers have to be rousing.

This is Archive, not some abandonware site.

Very, very impressive. So many titles I remember playing at friend's houses sporadically. It'll be cool to try some of these out again.

I'm hoping I can find the original Sid Meyer's "Pirates!" or Ozark Softscape's "M.U.L.E.". Whenever I sort the titles alphabetically, the list borks up right in the middle of the letter "M".

There's a search function. I don't see either though.

I don't know what that means. Are these guys above copyright?

I'm all for it. Just asking.

They've got Computer Diplomacy, another old Avalon hill title that was converted to software. IIRC, playing solo against the Computer wasn't much of a challenge, but it was an interesting diversion as you could take your pathetic French empire and slowly conquer the world with it.

Is there a site that has catalog of what all the games are? LIke grouped by genre?

I was looking for starflight, but alas it is not there.

Tried to play Kampfgruppe last night and never could get it run. It would lock up my browser (IE or firefox)

They have a DMCA Exemption:

In Giant Bomb's report on the collection, reporter Alex Navarro pointed to the Internet Archive's DMCA Exemption, which has been applied to much of this hosted software—even if it represents playable games that are still on sale—due to that specific code's rarity and need for preservation.

That a lot of games. Looking to see if it has Dungeon Master. Loved playing that game on my ancient computer.
