Vintage Video Games You Would Like To See Make A Comeback?

I have for years have wanted Rare whether it's a downloadable game or a full on physical release to make a new R.C. Pro Am. I still pull my original cartridge out from time to time and still have a blast with it.

I know it kind of got lost in the shuffle of mid-90's platformers, but I would love a new Vectorman as well. The first 2 still hold up really well to me.

Are there any retro games you would like to see make a comeback?

I would love a new Road Rash, I haven't played the other 3, but I almost bought a Saturn just to play Panzer Dragoon last year.

 I loved that game.

Maybe not "vintage" by any stretch, but I'd like to see the original Grand Theft Auto (top-down only) make a comeback with an "HD" version, but with identical gameplay.

As mentioned in another thread, a decent X-wing vs. Tie fighter game.
And another Lucas product: Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe.

Almost forgot: The Ultima series done up like The Elder Scroll series.

Loved RC Pro Am. Another Rare title that always comes to mind is Blast Corps. Pretty sure someone revisited Super Dodge Ball, haven't they? On the DS, I think.

I always loved the combo sport games like T&C Surf Designs on NES. Something like that could be fun as a downloadable title.

Then the obvious shouting from the rooftops at Nintendo: F-Zero & Waverace. Give me something other than 50 games set in the Mushroom Kingdom every generation.

It's not officially RR, but Road Redemption is pretty much a remake.

I'd like a new Darkstalkers, done up like Street Fighter IV/V.

Also, one of the bittersweet aspects of Sega's Sonic Racing Transformed was seeing what new installments of all those games could look like - but we don't get them.

It might be worth keeping an eye on Richard Garriot's current project, Shroud of the Avatar. Not an Ultima title, but essentially a spiritual successor. Might be too much MMO for your liking, though.

Have you played GTA Chinatown Wars? Cause that's exactly the kind of game you just described.

I don't know if the series is dead or not, since they did a PS2 one, but what ever happened to Suikoden?

I've always wanted a follow up to Herzog Zwei, though I'm not even sure what it would look like modernized.

The Star Wars thread made me miss Rogue Squadron all over again.

While they have MMORPG sequels, I'd love a traditional Phantasy Star or KOTOR game.

I'd LOVE to see re-imagined versions of

* Zork (3D underground adventure game)
* Star Control II (3D real-time space battle game with a BioWare-like story and upgradable ship/fleet)

I would have added X-COM to that list but then we got it. :)

There's been 3 of them in the last 5 years. I don't really think that fits this category.

Star Control II.... was that like Starflight or the same game? I used to play that on the Genesis back in the early 90's.

Rearmed is really good once you get used to the controls. Rearmed 2 not so much, but still alright.

We need another Jet Grind Radio. Not vintage, but essentially a dead franchise that was a lot of fun.

That was the first Star Control, which was more like an arcade game. The second was a story-driven adventure game with RPG elements, including a huge galactic map to explore and an upgradable ship and fleet. Ship battles were still carried out in the arcade style, however.

Like the much later Mass Effect, you bring together many disparate races to push back a destructive force similar to the Reapers. It was a little more light-hearted, though. One of my favorite games of all time!

Stardock announced back in 2013 that they were going to make a new Star Control game. Haven't heard any news since.

Looks like it was the beginning of this year. I didn't know about this, and I'm not sure how I feel about it since it won't be the AAA game I want, but it sounds like they're trying to respect the original spirit of the games. That's the reason it's a prequel and not a sequel, because apparently Toys for Bob has plans for the future of that universe. Thanks for the heads up!
