? So you can play against the CPU in story mode but there's no dedicated mode where you can pick your opponent? How much more time/effort would that have really taken?

From the IGN Review :

Considering all of that, it's difficult to understand or accept the big gaping holes in Street Fighter 5’s feature set. The biggest, most unforgivable thing right now is that there’s simply no way to play the CPU in a standard two out of three-round match, because bizarrely, there's no CPU vs mode and no standard arcade mode. There's a survival mode and an extremely brief story prologue for each character, but each is limited to single-round battles with non-standard stipulations applying as well (for instance, you start with full EX meter and V-meter). This is basic functionality that every fighting game has, and it just isn’t here, despite the fact that all the pieces to provide it are. Capcom has no explicitly stated plans to add such modes either. We know trials and daily challenges will finally come in March, but as of right now, Street Fighter 5 has terribly little to offer if single-player content is what you're looking for.

And they stated earlier that this was the one title they weren't going to "Super" or "Ultra" up, right? Guess I can pass for now, I've always been more of a casual fighting game fan anyway.

Ah, now that I read up on it more, I see that they got it out so that it would be ready in time for their tournament, that they're going the LoL model, and that casuals were not really their focus until the rest of the free DLC comes out. So yeah, guess they wanted me to wait anyway.

Pass on this thing if you can. It's bare bones garbage right now. There isn't even an arcade mode? Wtf? But luckily with my world class internet line I was able to get an online match........after 20 minutes or so. This is bad. Like Resident Evil 6 bad.

I'm sure it will come together in time, but yeah, I'm sitting this out for now as well. This feels like a game Capcom needed to get out the door to make their quarter, which would explain its stripped down nature.

Can't win game "money" offline, can't stay online. Nice one, Capcom!

This is yet another stealth "always online" game that totally didn't need to be.

I guess I'll return my CE back to Amazon.

I see ton of this unfinished bullshit in most software ERPs that I upgrade /implement.

This "let's rush it the market/patch it later crap" is definitely getting old.

One of the guys at work bought this and he's playing it now. Despite the lacking modes, it makes me want this still.

What was the DLC that came with the LE anyway? I never really saw a good description, which is odd, since how many people really want another Ryu statue?

I don't really understand why they're going after a League of Legends model anyway. Putting out a half-finished game and then finishing it along the way may work for a free game, but a full priced game, on a console no less, seems like financial suicide. Even if it does get the hardcore in right away, the majority will wait for a deep sale or worse (for Capcom) but it used, and doesn't LoL make their money off of paid DLC? How are they going to generate the money to keep supporting this game like they claim they will, without resorting to another incremental release?

If you watch this video, the guy shows the DLC inserts (and accidentally reveals his code ) at about the 1:20 mark. Looks like it's just a SF5 music sampler.

Kind of wish I bought PSN credit when it was on sale last week so I could buy this digitally. I wasn't going to get this before but now that my friends/coworkers are playing I want it too

Are they though? What I mean is that I'm hearing the netcode is crap right now and most people keep getting booted off the servers. Imagine the frustration you're saving yourself.

Re: Street Fighter 5 (Date: TBA) - (timed?) Exclusive to PS4/PC

The most insulting thing is how "Arcade Mode", something that's been a staple of fighting games since day-one, isn't even on their release radar at all as of yet.

What's weird is that, while the game didn't ship with a proper VC CPU mode, it actually does have a proper VS CPU mode. Thing is... its only for in store demos.
Go to a Gamestop/BestBuy and pick the SF5 demo. The only option is VS CPU and it has proper rounds, intros, and outros.

They made the mode, but decided not to include it in the game.

Oh, and fake-Kaz is always on point.

I wonder how widespread the issue is. People who are having issues will rightfully be the loudest online. I bet there are tons of people that are happily playing with no problems at all.

Yes, since I was standing there watching them play and tried a few rounds myself.

I'm sure plenty of people are having issues, or else they wouldn't be doing this:

Launch day server issues, not surprised for multiplayer centric games these days. Since there's barely any damn single player

Exactly. Which is why it's so dumb of them to keep out the single-player content (like what's available in the demo kiosks) on release day when there was no need to.

Didn't even crack open my Amazon package.

Generated my return shipping label and dropping it off tomorrow.

I'm no longer buying incomplete, half-assed shit from these publishers any longer.

Game's getting destroyed by user reviews on Steam, Metacritic, Amazon, etc. And while it has a 4/5 stars on PSN, keep in mind that it's very rare for a AAA game to get less than 5 stars on PSN.
Capcom fucked up. You don't release an early-access game for $60.

My favorite review has to be:

This review will be available as a free update in March.

That review is hysterical!

I don't think anyone wants to see another classic Japanese game company fail. But in this case it's completely deserved. They basically released a polished pre-build to meet their financial quarter. And even if they were true in their intentions to follow the Destiny model, one of the main reasons Destiny worked was it's excellent server performance. So far SFV's server issues make PSN look like it was created by Google's finest.

Re: Street Fighter 5 (Date: TBA) - (timed?) Exclusive to PS4/PC

I ended up buying the game anyway last night despite the issues. PSN took forever to download, but then again I have issues with the PS4's WiFi connectivity and range for some reason.

Played a bit this morning without any issues, hopefully it holds up over the weekend.

I heard the MadCatz fightpads were crap... never been a big fight stick guy. I guess i'll pick up the Hori Fighting Commander to use.
