Actually looks pretty fun, but will probably play like shit if it ever even gets made. People need to stop taking games too seriously....there's movies based on this exact thing and nobody gives a shit.
Hotline: Miami, one of the best and more popular games of the last few years, is similar in a lot of ways. |
Re: Hatred
Maybe if there's some sort of back story where these innocents really aren't innocents, or something of that nature, but even still, it is just killing for the sake of killing. Yes, there are games with evil modes, like inFamous: Second Son, though that mode didn't make sense ultimately. The game trailer kind of looked interesting, but I would never see myself playing it ever.

Re: Hatred
I'd get the game if I hear its good. The premise doesn't attract me too much but maybe something might change my mind.

Re: Hatred
If you don't want teens to play the game the best way is to ban it because it's too offensive. Teens will respect the decision and cross it off their shopping list.

Re: Hatred
The game will still get made. No idea what people are getting themselves in a tizzy about.

Re: Hatred
ok, do i think the game is extreme and on the ridiculous side --- absolutely. However, not sure why some folks are getting in such a tizzy over it. The Grand Theft Auto series is one the most popular in video game history and it isn't too far from what this game is. Most people love to just free roam GTA and mindlessly kill everyone in sight. How is that different from Hatred? Also Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 had one of the most barbaric levels I have ever witnessed in my 36 gaming years and that game got released just fine --
http://youtu.be/xHHO6jXNzMw (sorry can't get it to embed here) Am I saying "Go out and buy Hatred, it is cool!" Absolutely not, I am just saying that we have seen this type of violence before and have accepted it. |
Re: Hatred
The thing about it is in GTA it's largely a choice, Call of Duty MW2's sequence was also a plot point (and it got a LOT of flack). The fact this game seems to straight out encourage it is where it gets its differential.
It's like a more ridiculous Postal. |
Re: Hatred
And it's back. Gabe apologized. Massive free advertising for potentially shitty game achieved.

Re: Hatred
I just voted for it on Greenlight. :)
Flame if you want, but after a bad day at the office...this will help me blow off some steam  |

Twitch Bans Adults-Only Games
Just in time for Hatred, an upcoming video game about a dude who goes around and mindlessly slaughters everyone, the video website Twitch announced last night that users will no longer be able to stream games rated Adults-Only by the ESRB. It’s a curious move by Twitch, which was purchased last year by Amazon for $970 million. Although in practice this ban will have very little effect—very few games actually get an AO rating—it’s clearly designed to prevent people from streaming Hatred, which comes out tomorrow for people who pre-ordered (and next week for everyone else). Hatred has drawn an inordinate amount of media attention for its shock value, but it’s also become something of an icon for those who have strong feelings about censorship, especially after Valve (briefly) pulled the game from Steam last year. Clearly, Amazon and Twitch don’t want to deal with whatever controversies or consequences may arise from users streaming a mass murder simulator. Curiously, the ESRB’s website has no listing for Hatred, although the game’s developers said earlier this year that it had received an AO rating. http://kotaku.com/twitch-bans-adult-...mes-1707411881 <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/iWKSopTFf2U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Re: Hatred
Can't you essentially do the same thing in GTA? I think the premise of the game rather sucks but that doesn't make it really any different than other games where you can slaughter people for no reason.

Re: Hatred
I am curious as to what makes this game AO besides poor taste. Doesn't look like there's anything especially sick about it to elevate its rating above dozens of other graphic ultra-violent games.

Re: Hatred
I'm guessing it's probably because you play a terrorist, terrorizing innocent people, with no further insight whatsoever.
I watched a few random parts of that video, but no one needs English Muffin to talk at them for 25 minutes while playing a shitty game. I'm surprised he didn't talk about FOV sliders. I can't believe anyone takes him seriously. |
Re: Hatred
I like Total Biscuit, but agree he really needs to edit himself more. He really likes to beat a topic to death long after he's made his point.
