Yeah, I figure they'll split the lore up on the # of planets and/or the time you spend exploring. Or, maybe, you can get a map/GPS type thing that tells you where something is. I doubt they'd make you explore all those planets to find something.

And don't get me wrong, that's not a dig at the game or anything. Hopefully they have enough variables to make most of those planets truly unique; I'm just hoping it's not the case where a few billion of those planets look exactly the same but just have a few different types of rock or tree. That's why those numbers don't really impress me, they're just PR stuff.

Didn't they say something about being able to share coordinates of interesting planets with other people? If so, maybe there is an interface somewhere that catalogs all of that.

Given enough variables they could all be "unique" but that doesn't necessarily mean much. Not that most people will see even 1% of the planets, so it doesn't really matter.
Having said that, I'm still completely hyped on the game, but it has nothing to do with having a bajillion planets I'll never see.

That does look cool...I found a video on how the trading and crafting works but the darn thing is in another language....they were showing stuff like your ship, armor, etc...

Good question...but I've seen some games gone gold and then released 2-3 weeks later. I'm in on the game; and rather them make sure. They're a small outfit with no-where the staff of the larger Devs. Yes the game has been in the works for a long time but I don't think this is the normal run-of-the-mill 'Space Game". I just hope we don't see an 11th Hour postpone again.

I never have a problem with a game being delayed, just as long as its dealing with issues to ensure that the game released is completed. Too many games these days get released full of bugs and incomplete. I am not sure how anyone in QC for these companies continues to get employed. Surely thats the sole job of testers...to test the game and identify any problems.
I am still looking forward to this game. Taking me back to the days of Damocles, a game where it was more about the adventure than non-stop action.

Just wanted to point out it's generally less an issue of "QA didn't catch this" versus "Development didn't have time to fix this"

Well...I hate it when my fears are right.....
Rumor: No Man’s Sky delayed
http://ps4daily.com/2016/05/rumor-no-mans-sky-delay/
According to a new rumor, published by Kotaku, Hello Games’ ambitious, procedurally-generated space game, No Man’s Sky will not be meeting its release date of June 21st. Sources close to the outlet have stated that No Man’s Sky will be delayed for an undisclosed reason.
One of the source,s who appears to work at GameStop, said that the store received updated marketing posters changing the availability date from “June 21st” to “Coming Soon.” If their sources are right, then No Man’s Sky will be available later this summer, likely in July or August

Here's my guess as to why it's delayed:
The developers have admitted that planets with life on them are rare, and those with lush vegetation and big animals (like the "dinosaur planet" shown in one of the demos) are even more rare. Most players are going to be "discovering" barren rocks.
Now, they can't have journalists writing that they found 10 desert planets in a row after playing 20 hours, so they're trying to rig things so that those with pre-release copies have a greater likelihood of finding "non-boring" planets so they give more favorable reviews.
Just a theory...

Well i once did, about 18 years ago. At that point games generally got released when they were complete. These days developers consider hitting dates for release more important than actually getting a game 100% when it goes gold. I realize that they have financial reporting levels to meet for quarterlies but buggy games really give me pause when buying from a developer known for releasing games incomplete.
If someone said to me that i can either have a game that will need a 8gb patch day 1 of purchase and subsequent patches there after or i can wait another 2 months for the game to be released complete then i would always say i prefer to wait. A lot would probably go the other way, but that i see is just giving developers the rights to continue this process instead of being held accountable for their product.
