re: No Man's Sky (PS4, PC) (8/9/16)
Just watched the E3 demo and basically it was the same as the trailer from last year, only as gameplay. That's a significant difference, but I was never overly impressed with the trailer to begin with. After years of disappointment in procedurally generated games, I'm not going to even consider picking this up until I see a significant amount of real gameplay on the release version.

Someone got a hold of about 23 minutes of raw in game footage. It's pretty much all over with various places and lots of quite unusual sounds....

I will drop $60 on this game just to explore the universe, everything else in the game you can do is just icing on the cake

If they could add some sort of missions to the individual worlds, I would pay them all the monies.

I think I would pay to see two hours of this on a large IMAX screen....but I'll have to settle for the 92" one I use....

As much as i love the look of this game, and still positive i will pick it up and love it....i am positive that the majority of players will find it a dull, boring experience. Each video seems to show a whole lot of doing very little with the occasional space battle.

It's my understanding that everybody gets plopped at a random point in the universe. Which means that somebody people will have a rocking time with dinos and others will be stuck looking at barren rocks.

For players who like to rent or finish a game over the weekend or a week....this game will no doubt challenge that idea.....
Hello Games co-founder Sean Murray told IGN that the game uses a 64-bit number to generate all the planets in the universe. This means that there are 18 quintillion planets, or 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 to be more precise, to visit across No Man’s Sky’s universe. The title previously used a 32-bit number, which would have offered a paltry four trillion trillion planets and players would have dispatched with that challenge in just four or five thousand years. Just as well Hello Games upped it then......
http://www.clickonline.com/games/no-...explore/27221/
Also...as to starting out......
In No Man’s Sky, players will be dropped at the outskirts of the universe and must try to make their way to the centre. Getting there won’t be straightforward, as players will have to explore planets, gather resources, upgrade their ships and work together if they hope to survive. Exploring each and every planet in the game isn’t necessary and looks like it’s not a challenge you want to volunteer for in a hurry.

Good thing I don't have the OCD some gamers do that compels them to 100% a game. It'd be funny if they tied a percentage to the total number of planets you explored.

As excited as I am for this game, I got a frowny face when they demonstrated the GTA-style wanted level. I hate that kind of thing, because it's usually just a constant annoyance. Let me explore and/or destroy in peace.

Me neither but that number is beyond insane. Heck...some don't even know what a Trillion is. Just looking a that number makes my head hurt. I also assume it's a safe bet we won't get some interstellar "Road Map".....

I saw this on GAF. I think it will be a Morpheus bundle.

This is my thought every time I see an article about exploring new planets or whatever on IGN. As for right now, this game is like a book that only someone else can read to you in small bits and you are not allowed to touch. Just finish it, put it out and wish for the best.

re: No Man's Sky (PS4, PC) (8/9/16)
Well, IGN had an "Ask Me Anything" event with Sean Murphy, the game's lead designer. What do you think the first question was? What sort of an answer do you think he gave?
keylimepies: Obviously, we’re all dying to know when we’ll finally be able to get our hands on No Man’s Sky. Any update on when you all might have an update? In the mean time, what's it like for the studio? Are you itching to release the final product? Does the excitement get overwhelming?
Sean Murray: Hi KeyLimePies! It’s really nice that you are excited about the game, and care about the release date. That actually means a lot, it’s genuinely fuel that makes me want to keep coding tonight once I finish these answers!
I guess there’s two things, when the release date is, but also when we announce that date. We can’t announce the date right now, because of things that are not entirely in our control, but honestly for good reasons. It’ll be announced as soon as we can.
What really matters though, the big thing for us, is that date when you actually get to play the game yourself. I know you aren’t alone in wanting that to arrive as quickly as possible. If people could see how hard this team is working, how intently, passionately and crazily… man if people could see that, I’m pretty sure they’d tell us to ease off, to take a break.
The reality is we wouldn’t ease off though, because nobody wants to get No Man’s Sky out there in the world more than we do. You talk to anyone here, and they’ll whisper about their post-launch “thing”. The sacrifices that’ll end, or that one thing we so desperately want to do, but is on hold until after the game is shipped. We’ve pretty much all had recurring dreams and nightmares about that moment of uploading the final build.
I guess it’s easy to forget we’re just a small self funded indie studio. I remember even on Joe Danger, we ran out of time, energy and even money, maxing out credit cards, but we just kept going. That’s where we are now. And this is such an ambitious game, such a small team, and under so much pressure. You can’t go to sleep at night because it’s not going to be as good as you promised yourself, or as good as you can now see it could be.

Maybe you shouldn't take on so much "ambition" with such a small team. What exactly is there left to do? And what super secret thing is holding them back from at least giving an approximate release window?
