I'm not quite there on giving up on it entirely but this weekend I'm going back to Dying Light & Warframe in co-op and if my Doom copy arrives on that along with Paragon.......
I dunno but doing the Outposts has produced basically nothing. All the chatting with the Aliens and solving the riddle with the blueprints offered are ones I already have. I've turned down at least a dozen guns and the only real change has been buying a new ship. On this new planet I've come across three crashed ships already and each one has 1-3 slots "Less' than what I already own. In fact this planet doesn't have any wildlife and basically a "Green Desert" with little of anything. The only real action is anytime I go into space I get a Hostile scan and attacked by 3-4 ships.
...I like looking at a New Planet and scanning the stuff but it's now....scan, learn more Alien Words, talk to Aliens and solve riddles or puzzle, get a Blueprint I already own....fly, land, rinse, repeat......

I played for a couple of hours today and completed the Atlas quest. Yep, a complete let down. I started heading towards the center of the universe and using Blackholes, but they have stopped appearing after about 5 jumps and without them the progress you make to the center it too small to Lee pumping serious time into this anymore. Especially after hearing about what awaits. It wil be played occasionally from this point onwards as only a game of curiosity when I am bored. I don't regret buying the game, but it seriously needed more to it than is being offered.

Yea...I actually went back to destiny last night...after nearly 8-10 months away. My friend kanji went back several days ago and we hooked up for the first time in nearly 2-3 months for co-op. Both of us have been on SP games like Fallout 4, No Man's Sky and others. It was a 180° from NMS and actually had a good time.
I'm not going to trade it in...yet...and maybe between some games which is several....Destiny, Fallout 4, Diablo, Dying Light and just got Doom which I haven't opened.....I'll pop this in and just chill looking at the scenery.

Re: No Man's Sky (PS4, PC) (8/9/16)
I never would of been the one leading the charge to demand a refund. I preordered the game on the PSN very late after hearing some reviews. They said the same thing for the most part but I kept thinking that at some point the game HAS to take a sharp turn and become something differrent. There had to be more to the game than land, scan and fly away.
I gave the game a pretty damn good shot. Then I heard the reports about the refund. Going through the process was more than just the fact that I was getting 60 bucks back. I paid 60 dollars to support a game that I felt was worth owning. Getting my money back was a way to tell them that this game was more hype and tech demo than actual game. I hope Hello Games learns a thing or two from this mess and I hope that the industry grows a tiny bit and learns the dangers of hype once and for all. It won't happen but I can dream.
I used the credit to my PSN account to preorder the new South Park game and since it came with the old game I had never tried I was pretty excited.

I was thinking of doing the refund thing but it's not the fault of Sony or even Sean Murray. It was me listening to all the hype and just automatically accepting and putting money down before reading reviews/ watching Youtube video of actual gameplay. A hard $60 lesson.
I'm so turned off from pre-ordering any game in the future. I'm not even interested in pre-ordering Final Fantasy 15 and that was a game I was even more hyped to get.

I have no idea why people are asking (or getting ) refunds for this game. It's not like it's broken. It didn't live up to the hype IGN was throwing at it? Who cares, almost no games do. It wasn't what you expected? You weren't paying attention then. Read page one of this thread from two years ago. Every complaint about gameplay today was brought up as a concern back then.
I think the game is unique and kind of interesting and it is what it is. You can like it or not. But it's not an overlooked steak that you can just send back to the kitchen. If you want to rent games instead of buying them, then join GameFly like I did. To preorder a clearly- non-refundable $60 game before any reviews and then cry about how you're disappointed with the results sounds like a YOU problem not a SONY problem. Grow up and own your decisions and make more informed ones in the future.

Agreed. And what I find really disgusting are the people who actually beat the game or "I'm gonna finish getting the platinum and then get a refund" people.

Yeah, I don't get it either - the game was pretty much what I expected. The only real misconception of mine was the ending "mystery/secret".

The only time I've even attempted a Steam refund was for a game that the framerate was so bad it was unplayable on my computer. I only actually logged 10 or so minutes in the game and I looked all over the internet to try and fix the problem with no answers so after a week or so I sent Steam a refund request and they denied me saying I had the game too long.

Blame all the fucking media outlets. They are the ones that decided the game was AAA, then Sony had to follow suit. Without all the coverage, the game would've slid by quietly, like so many others.
FWIW - I still play it, a system at a time, then take a break. It's boring, its tedious, but it's still exactly what I wanted from the game. Something to kill time in the evening and decompress from reality for an hour at a time.

I don't regret making my purchase. I am curious as the game ended up being exactly what I expected it to be, with only the disappointment of bad endings (which truly lets the game down more than anything else if you ask me). It really shows me that when people sometimes see a game in development they can be more sold on the bullshit that companies push on them (and websites like IGN). It's weird. Before I buy any game these days I at least watch videos of it running and search out as many opinions as possible to get a clear picture on what I am getting. Adverts do not sell me on a game. There are a number of things that could be added to the game that would make it a whole lot more interesting, but not sure if anything significant will ever appear. I got what I expected in the end and it mostly lived up to expectations, but is now simply a curiosity piece and not worthy of serious time being pumped into on a regular basis.

I'm still confused by the "lied to" comments, what was advertised that didn't end up in the game? I didn't really read a ton of the press for the game, the videos all sold it as a planetary exploration walking simulator.

I made my preorder mistake with Destiny. Never again...
I can see people being upset if they bought the game off what the dev was telling us about it only. I don't think he ever mentioned that a lot of that stuff wasn't in the final build. But any day 1 review or impressions would have cleared that up.

I'm OK with catching shit for being part of the problem. In order to prevent such disappoint again I'm certainly not going to preorder a game I was on the fence about until the last possible moment. I trusted game reviewers more than my gut.
I've bought lots of shit games in the past but this level of disappointment was unparalleled. After all my years here I could care less how many people here think I'm a shitty gamer/person for this.

I think saying anyone was "lied" to is a pretty big misrepresentation. It seems more like the developer got way too ahead of himself in interviews a d at shows, and promoted features that, at that time, should've made it into the final release but didn't for whatever reason.
One of their huge fuck ups, in my opinion, was not getting some kind of proper marketing or community management team on this much earlier. That and waiting until AFTER the game was released to bring on a QA team.
I think they got caught up in their own story of the "Twee Little Developer That Could," and the end product suffered.

I'm keeping my copy and will still play occasionally. What I fear is this setting a precedent of claiming....
'" was lied to, game not what I thought it would be, not a finished game yet I played for a few weeks but now want my full refund back" scenario....
If I'm a Dev or working for one and you spend countless days, nights, weeks for months upon months or even year(s) putting a strain on your life to develop a game which you depend on getting paid for only a few weeks later see demands for refunds....how many do you think will hesitate or have some doubt on making a game, developing, stretching the imagination or doing a story....knowing some will use the line "I was lied to and want my money back"
It takes a heck of a lot time, effort, people and above all money to make games...and not all are perfect "9's or 10's". And like everything else out there, you do have a choice; be it pre-order or hold and wait, buy the normal version or super duper elite limited or not at all.

Re: No Man's Sky (PS4, PC) (8/9/16)
Like I posted earlier, it is an "indie" game through and through, and unlike a triple-A game, it's going to have a smaller group of people it appeals to. Kinda like an art-house movie compared to a tent-pole blockbuster. You pay the same to see either, but way more people are excited for the blockbuster. Unfortunately, this was hyped as if it was a blockbuster, when it was more like a quirky art-house movie.
