That's a shame, IMO. I don't understand the concept of playing a "game" that has no goal or end-game. I could see the time wasting aspect of games like Day Z but I couldn't see investing a lot of time into something that doesn't end... I'd rather go experience life.

I guess we'll see as release gets a little closer.

List sounds impressive. I have a feeling that as long as this game is not buggy i will love the hell out of it, however i also see serious MMO players getting bored real quick. I think the size of the play area with less variety and things to do will take away from a smaller sandbox area with more to accomplish and more variety.
This game along with Just Cause 3 will push me over the edge in getting a PS4.

- There won’t be any quests or missions to go on. It’ll be up to you to decide what you want to do. The hope is that your natural curiosity and the richness of the worlds presented will be enough to keep you interested - this is a game about exploration

I think my head would explode if I tried to comprehend the vast endless space of this game......
No Man's Sky is so big, the developers built space probes to explore it for them
http://www.polygon.com/2015/3/3/8140...tillion-worlds
here's a robot that lives inside No Man's Sky that nobody outside of the development team may ever see, because its entire purpose is to fly to each of the game's 18 quintillion worlds, take short videos and document its interstellar travels as a series of animated GIFs.
Developer Hello Games built this probe because, at its core, No Man's Sky is so massive that its statistically insignificant team of four human artists can't control or oversee its creation. At best, they can audit some of what already happened and adjust accordingly.
So, instead of pure human oversight, No Man's Sky is governed by what art director Grant Duncan calls a team of thousands of "mindless idiots" — the computer code and algorithms that take the structure that he and his team created and turned that into a universe.

Why? Isn't it all numbers on a text document someplace unless it's in front of you on the screen? I admit I'm no programmer, but I'm assuming it's just generating the things it needs when it needs them.

Sort of. It's all procedurally generated. Just like Elite: Dangerous which contains the entire milky way, all 400 billion star systems, planets, moons, etc, but that game is only about 4GB.

It just depends on how atmospheric and "cool" it is to actually play. On paper it doesn't sound too good. But from a technical sound point the games sounds neat. No two people will play the same game, but you can hop online and let people visit the planets you find.
The overall goal of the game seems a little lackluster (build resources to reach the center of the galaxy) but again, I needs to play it first.

The big thing is we still don't know if this is a digital-only game that retails for $20 or a full $60 game (at least I don't think we know that). If it's the former, like Minecraft, I could see it as being a pretty big hit -- assuming anyone still buys digital games at launch that aren't called "Minecraft". If they're trying to sell this as a full retail title, I could see this being a big disappointment, sales-wise.

Doesn't Minecraft have the building aspect to keep people going? With this game, all I see is traveling to different worlds and looking around. While it's interesting that no two people end up with the same experience, and the vastness of it all, it doesn't seem like that enjoyable of a "game" long term. I'm sure there are people out there who will like this, though.

As long as they get some quality action in and decent controls and gameplay then i can see this being fun over time. I think about old games like Mercenary (where you crash land on a planet and your mission is simply to get off the planet) or the follow up Damocles (A comet is headed for the planet of Eris, you have to find one of multiple different ways to stop it), where there wasn't actually a massive amount to do gameplay wise, but the exploration made it really enjoyable. And that was way back in the 8 bit and 16 bit days. I am positive that this game will not live up to expectations, but i have a feeling i will still enjoy it more than most.

Shadow of the Colossus was supposed to be about the exploration, with occasional boss battles. Some people liked that, and thought at the very least it was beautiful, but I recall a lot of people being pretty bored with it.
