Silent Hills (Kojima, Guillermo Del Toro) [UPDATE: CANCELLED]

re: Silent Hills (Kojima, Guillermo Del Toro) [UPDATE: CANCELLED]
I remember playing one of the silent hill games on the Xbox. I quit when I looked online how to get past the point I seemed stuck at. You see.....there was some garbage disposal shoot that was blocked in one of the buildings. I guess it should have made sense for me to put the six pack of unopened soda in the garbage to unblock it, but for whatever reason that just didn't seem like it made enough sense for me to even consider doing. It was at that point that I said "fuck this game". Reading Suppermallets spoiler of what needs to be done to figure out that puzzle just reminds me how annoying these games can be. Like if I took nine steps, or eleven steps....the baby wouldn't laugh. But ten steps? Everyone knows that's how you go about making a ghost baby laugh in a videogame.

Silent Hill has not had this kind of attention in the gaming community since the third or fourth game IMO. Good for them because it's the kick in the ass I was hoping for to bring this series back.
BTW, I have not played it in a few years but that sounds like the apartments early on in Silent Hill 2 that you described, and that's a shame you quit because it's a masterpiece of horror gaming. Actually, it's the first game I thought of back when Ebert claimed video games couldn't pass as art.

Thank God for the internets nowadays when one gets stuck. I think tackling a Silent Hill game today will be much different than tackling that first one back in 99.

I love Silent Hill and I hope this game turns out well, and we get another movie that is as good as the first one. They need to get Akira Yamaoka, the soundtrack is the most memorable aspect of the original games, and absolutely essential to the creepy atmosphere.

People consider the first movie good? I just remember a great atmosphere with a terrible plot, bad CG and worse acting. Suitably creepy ending though. Also, I read something about them making the visuals "a bit weaker" for P.T. since it was supposed to be believably made by a smaller studio. IMO, it has some of the most photo realistic graphics I've seen in a game thus far

Yeah, I liked it, it nailed the atmosphere of the games. That was really the most important part, it just felt like Silent Hill. The second film was completely awful, though. I remember losing hope early in the movie when they used a toasted poptart for a jump scare.

The first Silent Hill movie was really good. One of the better video game movies out there. Silent Hill: Revelation was absolutely terrible though.

I really like the first SH movie. It has great atmosphere, and the creatures are effectively creepy. Pyramid Head wasn't as good as he was in SH2, since he wasn't an expression of sexual angst.
As for P.T., you may be able to say lots of things to trigger the second laugh, but that particular word seems to consistently trigger the laugh.

I really liked the first Silent Hill movie and easily think it's the best VG-Movie adaptation. It took the material and took it into it's own direction while making it feel like a part of the universe of the games. In contrast to say how the Resident Evil movies were handled.

Yea, Mortal Kombat is still my favorite VG movie, as it was fun! I loved the ending to the first Silent Hill movie.

Well shit, this sucks. I was looking forward to it, as it would had been the next I actually purchased. I haven't bought a single game in close to 2 years.

Konami being Konami.
Apparently Kojima is a contractor at this point, having had his position/power within Konami snatched away. No Kojima, no Silent Hills (at least with del Toro onboard). It's a safe bet that Konami didn't have any interest in Silent Hills anyway; they've basically abandoned console gaming altogether, aside from Metal Gear Solid and Pro Evolution Soccer.

FWIW, the Silent Hills on Wii was really good...might ease the pain.

The writing was on the wall for this when Konami apparently fired Kojima a couple of weeks ago and then removed his name from MGSV promotional materials. Still hurts to hear a confirmation, though.

from what Facebook is saying, in it's trending. The PSN store is removing the Silent Hills teaser.
