Favorite Next Gen Console - Summer 2014 Edition (Now With 100% More Wii U!)
Since people were annoyed at the lack of Wii U in the previous thread, which console have you been most impressed with?
I only have a PS4 so I can't comment on the Xbox One. The Wii U has had the best game lineup, but it's also been out longer. I've been quite impressed with Sony's handling of the PS4 though.

PC has generations? I guess PC wins simply because it's backwards compatible and is getting a lot of the next-gen console games... plus by and large the games are cheaper.
Console wise, I've been most impressed with the PS4, I have extensively used the Xbox One and feel like Microsoft is still kind of half assing it. The potential is there, they need to realize it. That said, it took a while for the Xbox 360 evolve as well.
I've found the Wii U to have some quality first party games that are just oddly boring to me. Not sure why, I get a feeling of deja vu playing through most of them.

I voted PC, since i'm not impressed with the hardware in any of the consoles comparatively.

So it is now!
Too bad there's not a "Still not sure" option, because I'd probably pick that. I went with the PS4 since their first year has been a lot smoother than the XO, and because they've led the XO, both in pricing and now with free games with Live Gold. For someone to be more impressed with the XO, MS would have to take the lead on something and so far they've just been playing catch up on everything from used games to pricing to video sharing options. I still like the XO and am looking forward to some upcoming games, but would like them to show some innovation that isn't tied to the nearly-useless Kinect.
I still don't consider the WiiU a "next-gen" console, but there are some games I'd probably enjoy on it. I might pick one up for sub-$200 one day. In the meantime, I can get my Nintendo-license fix on the 3DS if I want.

Re: Favorite Next Gen Console - Summer 2014 Edition (Now With 100% More Wii U!)
For lack of a "too soon to tell" option, I guess I'll vote for PS4 simply because it's gotten more right than wrong from the time it was announced until now.
My rationale from the prior thread, where I voted for "too soon":
I think the PS4 has better hardware and interface, and they haven't had to deviate from their vision really at all. I also think they were smart to tie themselves to the two biggest new IPs this year (Destiny/Watch Dogs), and their indie strategy was damn smart. But they have been slow with meaningful firmware updates (3D Blu, MP3, media streaming), and their first party exclusives have been largely underwhelming. The only highlights thus far have been Infamous, which wasn't as good as most hoped it would be (gorgeous though) and MLB The Show. And I can't imagine what they'd be doing this fall if it weren't for the Driveclub delay, which turned out to be a good thing all around.
The XB1 has decent hardware, but not as good as PS4, and I'm not a fan of the Win 8 style interface. They've also had to reverse course on almost all of their vision for the box, even in the past few weeks with the closing of their TV studios. That's all for the best, but it hardly inspires confidence and certainly isn't "impressive". On the upside, they've moved swiftly with firmware updates, and I think they probably get a slight edge on exclusives with Forza and Titanfall being the highlights. They also seem to finally be moving in the right direction, and I don't think anybody should count them out, even if they are currently getting curb stomped.
Wii U should rightly get a vote or two. I might have voted for it based on software alone (because the hardware is terrible).
So basically the PS4 is killing it right now, but MS has done a good job on the software front, so I'm not prepared to count them out just yet.

For fuck's sake, the Twikoff option is obviously the "I'm not voting for any one of these and I'll tell you why option", and people always get pissy when PC is left out. Now people are being pissy that the PC is being included. Why won't you just love me?!

Since the question is about "consoles" (since I don't consider PC to be in the console category) I voted Wii U. Impressive library of games both first and third party (however fewer they may be), and terrific graphics despite the underpowered hardware.
Really though, all things considered, PC Master Race all the way!

I wanted to vote for Steam Machine, but low and behold, there was no option for it.

Re: Favorite Next Gen Console - Summer 2014 Edition (Now With 100% More Wii U!)
Unexpectedly, the Wii U is still my console of choice right now. There are two exclusives I absolutely have to have before the year's out (Bayonetta 2 and Super Smash Bros.), and Hyrule Warriors and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker are possibilities.
There's really only one must-have PS4 exclusive for me before the year's out, and that's LittleBigPlanet 3. Even then, I'm tempted to try to get it as a Christmas present or something. I want it, but it's not an intense, burning desire or whatever. I do have the special edition of Destiny preordered, and it'll be my console of choice for multiplatform releases. I can see myself picking up DriveClub for my by-then wife since she's a racing game fanatic, but it's a coinflip between that and Forza Horizon 2.
My only must-have exclusive for the Xbox One for the rest of the year is Sunset Overdrive. I'm intrigued by The Master Chief Collection, but in the same way that complete series DVD/BD sets turn me off, the idea of getting all those games at once just isn't apppealing to me. It's my own personal hangup. I can see myself picking up Forza Horizon 2 for my by-then wife since she's a racing game fanatic, but it's a coinflip between that and DriveClub.
Everything else I'm eyeing is multiplatform. I could get 'em for my beefy, expensive, shiny, new PC rig, but for whatever reason, I just can't get into that swing of things. I work so much from home that I kind of want to be away from my PC when I can.
So, yeah, the Wii U as far as exclusives go, although I'm sure I'll have more new PS4 games before the year's out than I will for the Wii U and Xbox One combined.

This is a weird question because I'm going to assume that the majority of people here only own one next gen console so obviously their favorite is going to be the one they own. This question would only be relevant if all the people voting had all the consoles mentioned.

Several people here have two out of the three or three out of the three consoles AND do a lot of PC gaming as well. How they have time to work, I have no idea.

You can't be impressed by a system you don't own? I'm impressed by the Tesla Model S, the landscapes of Monet, the suites at Bellagio and with Scarlet Johansson's rack, despite not owning any of them.

That's a shame. I do own Scarlet Johansson's rack and if you think it's nice to look at, just imagine how great it is to touch!
