Definitely a bummer to see.

Gamespot only gave it a 6. Ouch. I can't believe I'm almost considering canceling my pre-order.
Lower scores shouldn't be much of a surprise, since this isn't the same BioWare that developed the original trilogy, and I don't mean that in an esoteric EA-killed-BioWare kind of way (though that is certainly true as well). This one is by BioWare Montreal, and this is not only their first full game (they were formed to work on the multiplayer for ME3), and according to BioWare GM Aaron Flynn it's the first professional work for many of them.

It might not be a bad game (7.7 isn't a bad score IMO), but it isn't often sequels done by new teams live up to their predecessors.

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda - 3/21/17

Well if that's the case that this is the first "Professional Project" for many of them along with the first full game, maybe they should get a extra bonus point or two....because they picked one heck of a series to get their feet wet on....

A simple Shooter, RPG, Action, Platform, Drive, Sports, Adventure game would've been far easier than this not to mention this is part of a series that has gained fame, followers and traditionally solid reviews...plus the first for the current gen. But seriously, maybe they do deserve a bit of slack and besides; what games haven't come out lately with bugs & issues. I'm willing to do a wait & see on this.

I'm picking mine up in a few hours at BB. I don't care about reviews.

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda - 3/21/17

Best Buy retroactively added the Steelbook to my previously placed order of Mass Effect vanilla edition. Now I'm wondering if the digital extras are worth $6.50 more in my order ($38.90 for the vanilla vs $45.40 for the deluxe). It appears that original vanilla order also included some Best Buy exclusive bonus content that the second order did not. I can't make out what it is, but it's some sort of armor.

I'm leaning more towards the cheaper one...

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda - 3/21/17

One of the preorder bonuses for the regular edition was already a standard pack in for the deluxe edition (which was kinda dumb, because it hurt the incentive of picking up the more expensive version)

I had to stick with the deluxe version since I got it with the Visa promo, but it only cost me $45. The steelbook looks great and even has artwork on the inside. Maybe they spent more time designing that then the game

I'm going to finish Horizon first, so maybe by then a patch or two will come out fixing some of the initial bugs and glitches.

So since I ordered the vanilla version with the Visa Checkout deal and then they added the Steelbook to that order, and it has free DLC included that's also included in the Deluxe edition, I guess the smart thing for me to do is buy that cheaper version and not worry about missing out on the pet monkey.

I didn't even know about the pet monkey That's probably worth $5. Isn't there a digital soundtrack too?

yeah, you get the code inside of the game, but it only lists game extras. nothing about the digital soundtrack. not sure how that works.

And yeah, comes with a casual costume, a weapons pack and a digital soundtrack download as well.

I think I can live without all of that.

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda - 3/21/17

I played this a for a few hours today and I am digging it. I got the deluxe version, but am not quite sure how to access the extras once I've redeemed them. Are they part of the game now? Automatically?

I wanted to customize my female avatar, but she always came out looking Asian, so I went with the default looking Sarah Ryder. Then I meet a character named Suvi, and am like, that's what I wanted to custom the character as!

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda - 3/21/17

Got through one of the vaults today. So far, so good. Pretty much Mass Effect. Go here, do this, then do this, then do that, then go collect the reward for mission. It looks pretty. So far, all the reviews talking about it being overwhelming with regard to menus were spot on. There is so much fucking stuff in this game that you have zero training how to use. Specifically, crafting weapons/armor/gear and researching shit. Hopefully it becomes clearer the more you play.

For the life of me I couldn't figure out how to get my preorder shit. Turns out it is easy. When you get your main ship, it is on the desk of your room.

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda - 3/21/17

Yeah, I literally spent all fucking day playing the game. I did open up one vault. I still haven't banged anyone, but I am working on Suvi. It takes forever before new dialogue opens up for characters, though. The graphics look great.

I do agree about the R&D portion of it - that shit is tedious.

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda - 3/21/17

The glyph bs is tedious. I fucking hate it. And the jumping. And the bad nomad driving. And the difficulty level.

I'd say it's a C- game.

But yeah sure. It looks pretty. I guess that's good.

I'm curious as to the combat part because I thought where I read something you cannot change your load out? And something about it being a bit cumbersome switching between powers.

You can change your load out at anytime as long as you're on the Tempest or on any of the planets. If you're on a planet you need to have that pod set up. It always comes with your data, Nomad, and it's a safe zone that refills your ammo and health.

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda - 3/21/17

Played another full day yesterday. I am already at level 20. Finally banged some broads. I had some multiple no-strings attached sex with Peebee and finally semi-romanced Suvi. One thing I read about the Suvi Anwar character is that she can only be romanced by a female, so if you're playing as Scott Ryder then you're out of luck on her.

I'm level 4 on insanity. I'm enjoying it more now that I'm out of the way-too-long tutorial and out exploring. As male Ryder, I'm not interested in romancing any of these women.

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda - 3/21/17

Leveled to 23. I'll be doing more of the smaller tasks to level up. I do like the intermittent cut screens that make you press R2 (optional). There was one scene that involved Peebee straddling you, which gives you the option to kick her off by pressing R2 or not. Then there was a character that turns their back on you and if you press R2 quickly enough you can shoot them in the back. Neat little things. I've yet to play any of the APEX team missions and MP. Some of those missions can run a couple of hours and I'd rather use the time completing missions.
