Or some bullshit.

I don't get it either.

Two sentences, I guess. Pick either one.

I think the site's successful enough to let it keep doing what it's doing, but there's not enough potential to warrant any real investment / development. That's why we're running such an ancient version of vBulletin, why the layout hasn't changed in forever, why columns haven't been updated in years, etc. I'd love to overhaul the reviews section, but I'm not really allowed to do anything like that.

Reddit is actually great if you remove most of the default subreddits and subscribe to subreddits that interest you.

In regards to gaming, I dig the subreddits to specific games and franchises (e.g. r/codghosts, r/codaw, r/tf2, r/titanfall, etc). The platform specific subreddits are okay, but they're too much of a circle jerk at times (ahem, r/ps4 and r/xboxone, ahem).

Make an account, remove the defaults, and find specific subreddits and you'll have a blast. If you have an iPhone or iPad, I highly recommend the Alien Blue app. If not, make sure you use RES in your browser.

Since I usually ignore chess (his last post is a good reason why), r/askreddit is actually a goldmine due to the users' responses and is one of the few default subreddits I still subscribe to. It's not 4chan for Christ's sake.

I have nothing against Reddit. I just don't understand how it works. Everything I click on that I think is going to lead to a thread of information seems to do the opposite. I'm old.

I never really understood reddit either; I get that its a quick way to get information and "news", but the threads just look so ugly and a mess to read, like something out of the early 90's.

Again, Alien Blue or RES make it a lot more palatable. If neither existed, I would probably not utilize Reddit.

The one thing I like about reddit being so lo-fi is that everything loads instantly. But yeah, it's somewhat difficult to navigate.

I've checked out the neogaf forums, but with the sheer amount of posts, it's easy to miss stuff. They could use a couple more sub forums, methinks.

I think that's my biggest problem with it. I tried to read through kvrdave's tax thread and I had no idea what was happening.

 I'm a NeoGAF member, but the last year has certainly been trying. Blatant troll threads get through all the time (there have been at least 2 daily "Is Xbox DOOMED?!" threads over the past year), but then you see people get banned for the slightest joking in other threads. I also despise the user hierarchy which leads to predictable snobbishness and long-term members getting away with things they shouldn't.

My account was approved almost immediately, by the way. I used a .edu address when I originally signed up. What I really don't get is that you can't change your registered email address after the fact. I lost access to that university account several years ago.

Yep. Reddit is a place where you can find discussion about anything, and I do mean anything.

Someone needs to post a tutorial thread for Reddit.. I have an account.. unsubscribed from all the default /r and subscribed to ones I want.. I have the Blue Alien iPhone app.. But I'm still lost.

Re: NEOGaf

I love Reddit but sometimes they can get a little carried away. Recently they had a crapload of "Look how pretty Skyrim Grahics Mods look" threads. We get it PC is Master Race.

Not gaming related, but the "History What If's" subreddit has some great stuff.

Yup, I wouldn't mind a Reddit tutorial. I want to read threads like I do here. I hate nested quotes upon nested quotes.

Funny, that exact same sentiment applies to most of the threads on NeoGAF, IMO.

I much prefer the vbulletin format - I too hate the threaded responses. Plus I've never seen anything there that I didn't see elsewhere so I've never bothered learning how to make the site work for me.

NeoGAF and Reddit are the same in the sense that they have really helpful information, that you probably won't find anywhere else in the internet.

Their main issue is to wade through all the crap.

For me it's easier to sub to Joystiq, Polygon, Kotaku, etc. and the good threads from GAF and reddit always reach them. Yes, I won't know about them for a few hours/days, but I don't care about that.
