Was there supposed to be a difference in the GTAV footage for the new systems compared to how it look on the old ones? I couldn't see any difference.
It also looks like they went back in and added more detail to images. The pisswasser beer sign on the Liquor sign for instance, it looks new. A couple of billboards looked new. |

The cynic in me thinks it's pretty clear now why neither console was designed with backwards compatibility in mind. Why do that when publishers can just repackage everything and sell it all over again?

But the PS3 had the Cell processor, which is vastly different than what the PS4 has. The only reason the PS3 could handle PS2 compatibility was because they basically stuffed a PS2 in the case. That's why the PS3 was $600 at launch, and why Sony didn't make the same mistake with the PS4. But I don't understand the importance of BC anyway. I have a PS3 and PS4 side by side, and still use both just like I had a NES and SNES when I was a kid. And hell, that was far more difficult when most TVs back then had only one input for everything. |

Yup. Until uncharted hits, nothing interests me the slightest.
All of the conferences were solid except for EA's IMO, and both MS and Sony did what they had to do for their relative positions in the market. MS had better pacing than Sony, but Sony had exclusive content on top of exclusive content and had more surprises (LBP, No Man's Sky, Let it Die and others). Granted, it didn't help that MS's entire lineup leaked on NeoGAF months ago. Sony also showed hardware (white Destiny bundle, Morpheus and Vita TV), gave some attention to F2P, and dated PS Now, which looks more and more like an actual thing. Some of these things probably hurt the pace, but I understand why they were included. My only criticism for either show was that the Powers thing drug on wayyy too long, and that time could have been used to give Planetside 2, Guilty Gear or Driveclub a little push. I think Sony is underestimating Planetside specifically, but they also might know something about how well it runs and plays on PS4. And Last Guardian was MIA, of course. Edit to add: Odd that there was no Deep Down in the F2P reel. Bet that game is a hot mess. |

Weak E3 thus far, some of the multi-plats look good, but Sony's had very few first party titles and they were way off, and Microsoft's showed almost nothing but rehashes. |

I myself am a cynic and a negative nancy most of the time but I think what you are saying is correct. Did they announce a Dark Souls 2 next gen version? I fully expect that to happen at some point. |
Re: The Official 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo Thread
Man I was hoping so much for GTA V on PS4, but I never would have dreamed they would let me bring my GTA Online character over from my 360 too, I just assumed I would have to start over. That is pretty awesome.

Re: The Official 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo Thread
This is one piece of gaming news I've been waiting on for years! GTAV for PC - awesome!!!! I am so excited, and it sounds like they are really going all out for a solid port too - no more muddy textures, aliasing, and poor framerates! Mods!! Man, I can't wait. Was going to update PC for Oculus but I may have to do it sooner. My E3 is complete, nothing else matters unless Oculus have another announcement.

I can see that line of thinking with the XBOX, since they aren't that different that the XBONE couldn't run 360 code.

Re: The Official 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo Thread
Both conferences were really solid. Although, if I had to pick a winner I'd go with Sony.

This is saying only your GTA Online progress is transferring over since that's what's saved in the cloud, opposed to your single player progress.
http://www.polygon.com/e3-2014/2014/...and-theft-auto The ports will offer visual and technical improvements such as "increased draw distances, finer texture details, denser traffic and enhanced resolutions," reads a post on the Rockstar Newswire. Rockstar also clarified that the transfer of data from the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions to PC, PS4 or Xbox One applies only to characters and progress in Grand Theft Auto Online. (That data is saved in the cloud in the Rockstar Social Club.) We've edited the story to reflect this. In addition, all of the new GTA Online content that has been created and released since launch — weapons, vehicles, properties, customizations and Jobs — will be available in the PC, PS4 and Xbox One versions. And the PC version will exclusively include a video editor to allow players to put together their own clips of in-game action. |

I can remember when the first Mortal Kombat came out and how additive it was. After seeing the new version on display on the PS4 last night it's safe to say MK has come a long, long way....

Like a Vita, you can stream your PS4 directly to it via Remote Play. You can also play almost any Vita game on it directly on your TV using a DS3 controller and an HDMI cable. And it streams video like a Roku and will also stream Playstation Now. Insane value for $99, especially for anyone with Plus and all those free Vita games.
Think of it as a Vita without a screen, buttons or a battery, using a DS controller and an HDMI connection to a TV. The only reason I don't own one already is because the Asian models require an Asian PSN account to use. |

Re: The Official 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo Thread
I just rewatched Sony's conference, because it was a lot to take in and frankly got a little dry in the middle. Here are some notes I took related to games shown and exclusive content:

Re: The Official 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo Thread
I'm rewatching the Sony conference, as I missed about half of it last night. Spoilerizing my thoughts, only because I know nobody really cares. ;)
Spoiler:
Overall, there's definitely some great stuff in there, and a few turds. This is an exciting time for gaming, that's for sure. |
