I think the biggest difference I saw in the trailer was the increase in traffic. The PS3 version had plenty of cars on the road, but that trailer looks like there's going to be double that, or close to double.

It also looks like they went back in and added more detail to images. The pisswasser beer sign on the Liquor sign for instance, it looks new. A couple of billboards looked new.

The cynic in me thinks it's pretty clear now why neither console was designed with backwards compatibility in mind. Why do that when publishers can just repackage everything and sell it all over again?

I can see that line of thinking with the XBOX, since they aren't that different that the XBONE couldn't run 360 code.

But the PS3 had the Cell processor, which is vastly different than what the PS4 has. The only reason the PS3 could handle PS2 compatibility was because they basically stuffed a PS2 in the case. That's why the PS3 was $600 at launch, and why Sony didn't make the same mistake with the PS4.

But I don't understand the importance of BC anyway. I have a PS3 and PS4 side by side, and still use both just like I had a NES and SNES when I was a kid. And hell, that was far more difficult when most TVs back then had only one input for everything.

All of the conferences were solid except for EA's IMO, and both MS and Sony did what they had to do for their relative positions in the market. MS had better pacing than Sony, but Sony had exclusive content on top of exclusive content and had more surprises (LBP, No Man's Sky, Let it Die and others). Granted, it didn't help that MS's entire lineup leaked on NeoGAF months ago.

Sony also showed hardware (white Destiny bundle, Morpheus and Vita TV), gave some attention to F2P, and dated PS Now, which looks more and more like an actual thing. Some of these things probably hurt the pace, but I understand why they were included.

My only criticism for either show was that the Powers thing drug on wayyy too long, and that time could have been used to give Planetside 2, Guilty Gear or Driveclub a little push. I think Sony is underestimating Planetside specifically, but they also might know something about how well it runs and plays on PS4. And Last Guardian was MIA, of course.

Edit to add: Odd that there was no Deep Down in the F2P reel. Bet that game is a hot mess.

If they fixed the framerate and left the rest exactly the same it'd be enough for me.

Weak E3 thus far, some of the multi-plats look good, but Sony's had very few first party titles and they were way off, and Microsoft's showed almost nothing but rehashes.

I myself am a cynic and a negative nancy most of the time but I think what you are saying is correct.

Did they announce a Dark Souls 2 next gen version? I fully expect that to happen at some point.

Man I was hoping so much for GTA V on PS4, but I never would have dreamed they would let me bring my GTA Online character over from my 360 too, I just assumed I would have to start over. That is pretty awesome.

This is one piece of gaming news I've been waiting on for years! GTAV for PC - awesome!!!! I am so excited, and it sounds like they are really going all out for a solid port too - no more muddy textures, aliasing, and poor framerates! Mods!! Man, I can't wait. Was going to update PC for Oculus but I may have to do it sooner. My E3 is complete, nothing else matters unless Oculus have another announcement.

While the PS3 might be harder then the 360, but you make it sound like 360 compatibility would be a piece of cake. As far as I know, part of Cell is actually Power architecture just like the 360 and both different from their respective next gen consoles that it would be a chore.

This is saying only your GTA Online progress is transferring over since that's what's saved in the cloud, opposed to your single player progress.

http://www.polygon.com/e3-2014/2014/...and-theft-auto

The ports will offer visual and technical improvements such as "increased draw distances, finer texture details, denser traffic and enhanced resolutions," reads a post on the Rockstar Newswire.

Rockstar also clarified that the transfer of data from the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions to PC, PS4 or Xbox One applies only to characters and progress in Grand Theft Auto Online. (That data is saved in the cloud in the Rockstar Social Club.) We've edited the story to reflect this.

In addition, all of the new GTA Online content that has been created and released since launch — weapons, vehicles, properties, customizations and Jobs — will be available in the PC, PS4 and Xbox One versions. And the PC version will exclusively include a video editor to allow players to put together their own clips of in-game action.

Um, I bought a PS3 and PS4 within the past 3 to 4 months. I just thought the show didn't have a great showing for exclusive games. I'm sure more games are coming this year, but so many games seem to not to coming until next year. Plus no Drive Club mention? Getting delayed again? The "surprises" were meh, and I don't know how the PlayStation TV will work. Will I have to have my disc game in, as well as my game system on? If so, it's more than a hassle than a convenience.

Think of it as a Vita without a screen, buttons or a battery, using a DS controller and an HDMI connection to a TV. The only reason I don't own one already is because the Asian models require an Asian PSN account to use.

I'm confused. I never owned a PS3 or Vita. Will I be able to use this to play PS3 games and Vita games without buying those systems that I now have due to PS+?

Re: The Official 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo Thread

I'm rewatching the Sony conference, as I missed about half of it last night. Spoilerizing my thoughts, only because I know nobody really cares. ;)
Spoiler:
Destiny - I still don't really get it... but a white PS4? HMMMM... I guess it depends on how it actually looks (glossy or matte... I want it to be glossy as fuck). It's silly, but that may get me to buy the system before The Order.
The Order: 1886 - I'm all over this game. As previously mentioned, THIS is the system seller for me. Seriously, this game looks perfect. HYPE!
Entwined - okay then. Looks like Flower with dragons.
Infamous: SS - DLC playable without the full game? That's what it sounded like he said. Interesting. I'll pick up the full game eventually, if only because it's in Seattle and I like Seattle (is the Fremont troll in the game?!? Don't tell me! I need to know, but don't tell me!)
LBP3 - Don't care. Even worse that the demo was done by people who suck at playing games. This is how you don't demo a game, guys. to transferring LBP1 and LBP2 content over, though.
Bloodborne - Creepy shit. I'm intrigued.
Farcry 4 - Beautiful. Makes me want to play the previous games. Interesting hint a game-sharing with friends.
- Letters. Okay.
Dead Island 2 - Like the trailer for the first one, this says nothing about gameplay, actual story, or anything, but it was kind of sweet.
Diablo 3 - I don't care about this game, but I get why people like it.
Battlefield Hardline - I think this looks fun. I like fun. I signed up for the PC beta, but never got a code. :(
Disney Infinity - No interest.
Destiny - Moar destinies!!
Magicka 2 - Hilarious trailer. Game looks like it could be fun.
- Tim Schafer's letter. uhh... okay.
Grim Fandango - I remember the name, but never played it. Looks like a lot of fun.
- INDIE MONTAGE!! - Some of these look fun. and gory. and awesome.
Let it Die - Torture porn! "Video games, right!?"
ABZU - Pretty.
No Man's Sky - Lots of potential, but the flying segment lost me. I thought it was going to go all star wars on us.
- Playstation camera. It's a choice, and response has been great. Morpheus! (I was seriously expecting, "we're bundling the camera at no extra cost, starting soon." That would have been the perfect response to MS ditching Kinect and dropping their price)
- Mr hands, the car salesman!
- Playstation Plus. Share button stuff. Sharing is a big deal. I'm imagining Oprah handing out sharing buttons, and--
- YOUTUBE!!! OMGZ!!!!!)#*!)(!*!!
- Twitch streaming and interacting is not just on PS4, but he said it was. Maybe I misunderstood him...
- Free to play montage - ehh. I get that there are fans of this, but I have yet to play a console title that really sells me on this model. Important bit: "At point of entry, free to play means... free to play" which really means "free to play, with fees or excessive grinding to do anything worthwhile."
- Playstation Now - Still cautious, but I'm interested for sure. I won't have a PS4 by the time of the open beta (July), but I'll fire up my PS3 when it's opened up to that system. Putting it on Sony TVs is hilarious. "Don't have a $200 PS3? Buy a brand new $1500 Sony TV instead!"
- PlaystationTV/VitaTV - I'll buy one once I have a PS4 and The Order. Easy purchase.
Mortal Kombat X - I enjoyed 9, but lost interest super fast. I'll pass.
- Netflix! Hulu! POWERS (zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz), R&C movie (zzzzz),
Last of Us Remastered - I'll pick this up when it's cheap, as I never played it on PS3.
Metal Gear Solid 5 - I LOVED the NES game, and the first PS game, but I haven't been into the series since then. I played a bit of 4, but never stuck with it. So... pass.
GTA V Remastered - Prettier, but I'm not sure I'll bother. Not until it's super cheap anyway. Dagger!!
Batman: Arkham Knight - Looks beautiful, but gameplay looks... weak. I'm not sure I'm interested, but I love Batman... so...
Uncharted 4 - Really didn't like #3, so I'll wait until we get some gameplay footage, not the equivalent of a CG teaser.

other comments:
- What's up with all the "exclusive beta" deals? Is this that big of a deal to gamers?
- "Console debut on Playstation" is an interesting spin, mentioned a few times.

Overall, there's definitely some great stuff in there, and a few turds. This is an exciting time for gaming, that's for sure.
