I'm so out of the comic book loop. I have no idea who some of these new characters are. If they're going to flood the game with covers, can we at least get some A or B list characters like The Thing or Cyclops. I have no idea who Sentry or Draken are.

I hate those maffia guys! Most of them are a huge PIA to my teams. There are multiple times each match where I can't clear out their timers in time. I try to have a board clearer like M.Storm or Jugg but their powers choose tiles at random and sometimes the colors don't fall your way.

Actually the Dark Avengers stuff is pretty old now. I was surprised they went with it really. It was probably 7-8 years ago?

Seems they do some movie tie in stuff. Like super soldier cap came out the same week as the movie. Also it was kinda funny and maybe an in joke because Human Torch was released the same week.

Personally I want a THING in a bad way

I wish they'd add more 2 Star characters. Seems like all the additions lately have been 3-4 Stars.

Sentry seems like he's going to suck to fight against in PvP. His powers may hurt his own team but they do way more damage to the other team.
he would be great for a computer controlled PvP team since they'd get healed after each match

A possible strategy for that is chasing blues and purples with MN Magneto and OBW. OBW's blue adds time to countdown tiles, while Magneto's purple does a lot of damage and generates blues to fuel her. If I was taking that approach, I'd probably pair them up with Thor or Wolverine to have someone with a range of fairly heavy attacks in complementary colors. That's assuming you have those characters though.

I do have OBW and MN Mags however I don't have enough covers to make them useful.

OBW 0/1/0, MN Mags 3/1/1

I'm trying to make the transition from 1* to 2* and it is progressing very slowly. I could use some advice.

2*
Thor (70) 3/5/5
Storm Classic (30) 4/3/1
Daken (6) 4/2
Capt A Modern (6) 1/4/0
Wolv (6) 1/2/2
Hawk Mod (6) 0/2/1
Ares (6) 0/1/1

1* - Iron Man and Storm are maxed

Of my current 2*'s, who should I focus on? Get Thor to max level 85 first? Do I have enough covers for any other 2* to make them viable if I spend ISO?

Thanks

this is my opinion, but i'd focus mostly on thor, classic storm and ares. all of those have unique skills. thor/ares are tanks, so they have a bunch of HP. thor's skills build on each other, so once you fill up one skill, i can help you fill up the next. if you can max out storm's blue skill, you will do well. it does damage to all enemies and will freeze one of them.

i like ares b/c his green skill does a shit ton of damage. the only downside is it gives your enemy half of the green you used, so sometimes you need o wait until you take out the enemy (or enemies) that have a green skill.

i'd say the biggest downside if you focus on thor/ares is their skill colors (R/Y/G) all overlap, so have to focus on those colors only if you pair them up.

Which is kinda funny when I got my first classic Spidey cover today from a random drop.

Do you think I currently have enough covers for Ares and Classic Storm to start pumping ISO into and using them in matches? Or still wait for more covers to drop?

fujishig 05-20-14 12:36 PM

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

The only problem with that team is that you share most of the colors, especially between thor and ares (green, yellow, red). But with the covers you have, that's the way to go (all three are among the best 2 *s), and hope and pray you get an Original Black Widow soon.

Your ares won't take much to max at this point. I'd recommend using your two 1 *s and work on maxing Thor.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

Well, what I don't understand is when is it ok to start spending ISO on heroes if you only have a few covers for them? The less covers you have, the fewer hit points, power level ability, # of powers, and overall max level you have for that hero. The guide that has been floating around here recommends to save ISO for a hero until you get to a point where that hero has an adequate number of covers in order to make the hero viable. Is there a hard and fast rule for that or is it more based on what covers the game is giving you?

Real world examples:

My Ares is 0/1/1. Is that enough to start dumping ISO into him?
Classic Storm is 4/3/1. I can probably max her out as that seems viable to me.
Daken 4/2. Again, I can probably max him out.

Conversely, OBW is 0/1/0. I should wait for more covers.

Thanks

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

it depends. if the characters are required for a specific story mode and are buffed, i'd consider dumping ISO into them. otherwise, i'd wait until you get more covers. definitely go w/ storm and max her out if you can.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about stockpiling ISO for now. As I transitioned from 1* to 2*, I had around 20 characters on my roster and was pumping ISO into them as fast as I could get covers, regardless of who it was going to. There were characters that were only temporarily useful that I pretty much stopped using or even sold once I had some higher levels for characters I preferred, but I didn't really get discriminating with ISO spending until characters were at least around level 40-50. At lower levels, it's just not that expensive to upgrade them and the better you do in events, the faster the ISO rolls in.

I haven't been keeping super close track of it, but I think I've been pulling around 40k in ISO per week recently. I'm sitting on ~85k of it right now, as I'm at the beginning of making the long transition from 2* to 3*. I've got six 2* characters maxed and have a bunch more I could pump up, but figure I'll hold off for now. If I get to the point where I have 150k - 200k stored up, I may just start upgrading some other 2*s, just create a third team to use for events. Anyway, point being, you'll get plenty of ISO. With where your characters are at, I wouldn't hesitate to put some into your 2* Thor, Storm, Daken, Wolverine, Ares and Magneto, especially the ones you have all three powers for.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

Yeah, early on I just upgraded guys whenever I had the chance to play as much of the prologue/story as I could so I could have more viable characters to use when my main guys were hurt or dead. Not sure if that was the best strategy, but I had fun :p

Gooter 05-20-14 02:03 PM

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

Thanks for the tips! I brought Classic Storm up to 40 and Thor to 75. Will slowly level up Daken and MN Mags.

Yeah, this game is crazy fun and addicting. I liked match games in the past but not as much as I've been playing this game. I'm not sure what the winning formula is whether it be the match game, the marvel universe, or collecting covers. I play it on my train commute both to and from work, on my lunch break, sometimes during work at my desk :P, and at home when the house is quiet.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

I burn through ISO like it was cocaine! I level up my top guys (ones with the good powers and highest level potential) first then once they're maxed, i start working on lower or mid guys

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

Good job on season 1. I think the alliance all get 2 hero tokens. . I will get a total of 5. Hope to get at least 1 cover I can keep. I got a psylocke cover in the rags event, so mine is a bit stronger than the base one, but not by much.

http://pbs.twimg.com/media/BoMPWN2CMAEIb6M.jpg I think I have enough coins for two characters. Which ones are better?

fujishig 05-21-14 05:01 PM

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

Original Black Widow for sure. She's probably the best 2* around, and being a 2* you'll get enough covers to max her out soonish. The Blue power is a healing power, the best one to start out with, so you can heal your battered team in an easy story session between pvp or pve plays. Her other powers are a purple that steals from the opponent, and a passive black that allows you to steal from the opponent when you make a match. All are great (though you don't want to get more than three on purple, because it becomes too expensive to use).

3* Thor is super powerful but it will be a while before you get enough covers. 3* Black widow is also pretty heavily used but again, it'll be a while. Bullseye is really really annoying to play against because of that stupid purple match = shields ability, but he's not that useful in normal play, IMHO, especially because he's one of those only-two-powers villains.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

Thanks for that info.. I have a Marvel Now Thor, that I think I mentioned before and they seem to have the same powers the 2* Thor I have (powers are 2 R, 1 Y, 3 G). I'll probably pick up the 2* black widow, as I planned on that one anyways... I didn't like Bullseye, I tried him before but got rid of him for other characters.

I think I had enough coins for only one anyways.. the new slot I bought cost 250.. so I have 150 left.. Though I could always get rid of a current character I have if necessary.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

Not having an Original Daken is really starting to piss me off. Too many points on the table for every one of these PVE events.

Deftones 05-21-14 05:43 PM

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

yeah, of those 4, take OBW and Thor.
