Re: Alien: Isolation - 10/7/14 (PS4,XO,PS3,360,PC)
I'd like to finish this game in Novice mode. Anyone know if you have to start all over?

This is actually the next game I'm going to start. Is it really that hard?

I can confirm that you can switch into novice mode without restarting, but you can't switch into nightmare mode from a continuing game.

Having played through this game 4 times -- once on Normal, once on Easy, and twice on Hard -- I have to say Easy mode really dampens the experience, and I can't even imagine Novice. Just some advice to anyone wanting to get maximum enjoyment out of it.
I mean, I understand the need to just get through it for some people, but since I feel that this is one of the best videogame experiences in years, it also hurts my soul a little. Carry on. |
Re: Alien: Isolation - 10/7/14 (PS4,XO,PS3,360,PC)
I thought "easy" was easy enough. It doesn't really need an easier mode than that.
The game "The Evil Within", however, that desperately needs an easier mode. |

I switch between hard and medium depending on how often I die in a particular area. I haven't bothered with easy yet and I imagine nightmare will live up to the name.

This is pretty spot on. It sounds weird but the fun of the game, imho, is the stress of it. I played on normal and I'm not very good at games in general and thought it was fairly easy.

Re: Alien: Isolation - 10/7/14 (PS4,XO,PS3,360,PC)
any radical differences can anyone detect from the One vs. 360 versions (from those that have played both)?
i have this on 360, have yet to play, but some reason think i want this on the One... |
Re: Alien: Isolation - 10/7/14 (PS4,XO,PS3,360,PC)
About what you'd expect -- the graphics are better and there are less framerate problems on XB1.

Seeing this game on PC with graphical enhancement mods is drool worthy.

This was like half off on Steam a few weeks ago. If its discounted like that again for the winter sale, I'll probably get it.

I've been curious about this game so I looked it up on IGN and wow, they gave it a 5.9. It seems they are in the minority though, the game has a score of around 80 on Metacritic, which is excellent.

I got this for the lowly PS3 and I'm impressed. Graphics are good with some minor issues but the core gameplay is still fantastic. Super tense playing through it so far (I'm early on).

Re: Alien: Isolation - 10/7/14 (PS4,XO,PS3,360,PC)
without spoiling anything, can someone tell me when this game starts to get going?
i've just started Mission 3 and so far finding a jack is the most exciting thing that has happened. it hasn't grabbed me yet and thinking about abandoning. the Axel thing was cool, but i've seen that before... tell me it gets going from here... |

That's a hell of a way to give a quote for the game. I haven't played it myself and kind of don't want to get for the last gen but it is all I have. Current gen next BF.

Re: Alien: Isolation - 10/7/14 (PS4,XO,PS3,360,PC)
Wouldn't you know it after I got the PS3 version as a birthday gift I ended up getting a PS4 after Christmas. I'm slightly tempted to upgrade to the PS4 version but the thought of replaying up to where I am now (half way through mission 10) just squashes that idea all together. The game is still great on the PS3 though and super tense even though I can sort of defend myself against the Alien now.

Re: Alien: Isolation - 10/7/14 (PS4,XO,PS3,360,PC)
Yeah, I haven't played Isolation on my PS4 yet (got one during the holidays), but I felt like the last gen version stacked up well. Sure, the current gen version is going to be a bit crisper, but even the comparison videos don't show that great of a disparity between the versions. No harm in waiting, but if you feel like jumping in now I would say go for it.

Re: Alien: Isolation - 10/7/14 (PS4,XO,PS3,360,PC)
Speaking as someone who played the game to completion on both 360 and XB1, there was a noticeable and unsurprising difference in both performance and graphics between the generations. Can't speak for PS, though. But I'm certainly glad I went with the new-gen version for my first experience with the game.

Re: Alien: Isolation - 10/7/14 (PS4,XO,PS3,360,PC)
Finished it on the PS3. There were a few times where the frame rate got horrendously bad but otherwise it was a good experience given the aging hardware. Having said that the game was a tad too long and could have been consolidated. The ending was also a bit of a letdown even though movie fans know more than what the game gives us. I also found it to be pretty frustrating at times, I tried out survival mode and Crew Expendable but could beat either so watched Youtube videos of that and Lone Survivor and then traded it in since I couldn't see myself playing it again.
Still well worth it for the first go through. Very genuinely scary and nerve wracking. |
Re: Alien: Isolation - 10/7/14 (PS4,XO,PS3,360,PC)
I just finished the mission playing as Marlow. That was pretty amazing.

Re: Alien: Isolation - 10/7/14 (PS4,XO,PS3,360,PC)
Played a good chunk over the weekend and ended up at mission 14. It's starting to get on my nerves now. Should I be trying to take the Joe's down or just rushing past them? Ever since I had to give up my guns, it's been a huge pain in the ass. And I've been out of the stun batons for some time now.
