Steam Holiday Sale 2013 (12/19/13 - 1/3/14)

It's time again:

Steam kicks off holiday sale with BioShock, Batman, more

It's that time of year again, boys and girls. No, not time to express your love for the people who raised you, but instead, it's time for Steam's holiday sale.

This year's sale runs from December 19 to January 3 and as in previous iterations, it offers a wide swath of discounts. First, there are the daily discounts, which collect a handful of games and slash their prices. At the moment, you could pick up BioShock Infinite for $10 or Batman: Arkham Origins for $25.

Then there are the Flash sales, which usually offer larger discounts than the daily discounts, though they only appear for eight hours. Right now you could pick up Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for $3.74, but eight hours from now you'll be out of luck.

Not just a sale, Steam's holiday celebration is also a community event. Every eight hours three games will be offered up for the community to vote on. Whichever receives the most votes gets a deep, public discount. Voting also entitles you to one free Snow Globe card with which can unlock rare items in Steam games such as Dota 2 and Team Fortress 2. Or you could simply horde your cards until you have enough to craft the Snow Globe 2013 badge. This won't help you in-game, but it's a nice reminder of how you spent this year's holiday season.

Hoping for some different daily deals than the Autumn sale, but I doubt we'll see many.

Amazon has quite a few good deals going on as well throughout the end of the year.

So what's the rule again? Don't buy anything until the last day?

Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2013 (12/19/13 - 1/3/14)

No. Don't buy anything that isn't a featured Daily Deal until the last day. Things drop lower than their regular discount, but not lower than the Daily Deal discount, so if there's a game you want, be sure to wait until it goes on Daily discount (or on the last day). Some Daily Discounts return on the final day as a "Greatest Hits" encore, but most do not.

Nothing I want for today. Only thing interesting is The Stanley Parable but I hear it's ridiculously short.

I got Monaco. Heard good things about it and at $3, couldn't really think of a reason not to pick it up (even though I'm sure it'll be in a Humble Bundle in a week or two now).

According to a rep on reddit, Amazon will be price matching most of these prices. When you buy from Amazon you get $5 credit towards their editor choice sale in January or February. Also, rumor has it that the prices won't get any lower than the Autumn sale.

My game backlog is hurting a ton since i picked up a bunch with the humblebundles.

Yup, the HB's have been a game changer for me; went a little crazy the last 5-6 of them. Couple that with the Autumn sale and my digital backlog has way outstripped my disc backlog (which is no mean feat).

Hoping 'Sons of Abraham' DLC goes on sale at some point and that may tide me over for a bit.

But, the point of it is experimentation.

I missed the sale that was in the recent past for the You Don't Know Jack bundle. I thought the sale was on for a bit longer.. but I waited to long to buy... I'll have to keep an eye on it.

Think Fez for $2.49 through Steam is the best it's going to be?

I've been holding off hoping for a 3DS release, but I don't think that'll ever happen now.

The other two games I want are Brothers and Gone Home.

I don't even call it a backlog anymore. It's "some games I might play someday."

i just did three amazing playthroughs in 35 minutes, with a lot more to go. Well worth the cost.

I believe it's on sale again for the same price as it was over Thanksgiving. $10 for the bundle of all the older games.

Demolition Inc. is pretty great, and it's $1.50 or something absurd like that. Check that one out.

You know, I really shouldn't admit this, but until that gif above, I never really knew what the Steam logo actually was. Without any context, it looked familiar, but I just never fully realized what it was supposed to be.
