I've seen a few articles and tech guys mention that consumers should wait a bit to see real numbers though, as a lot of the numbers Nvidia through out were regarding Ray Tracing Operations.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

I'm trying, really hard, to just be happy with 1080p gaming. If I can do that then I may be able to call my 1080 card "the last one."

Separate point. I haven't been very excited about gaming lately, but this teaser video on new 18/19 post-apoc games has got me going again.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

I think this is the year I pull the trigger on VR. I'll probably go with Oculus, since it's the cheaper of the two and it sounds like the controllers are better. I realize that it'll get pretty limited use, just some 'experiences' here and there, but it seems like there's enough out there to justify the purchase, especially if there's a discount around Black Friday.

If I could grab the bundle for ~$350 (or less), I'd be okay with that.

The bundles were going for $350 on Prime Day, I imagine they'll be about the same on Black Friday. There are also 20% off coupons that eBay has from time to time, you can buy it from Best Buy or sometimes NewEgg using said coupon via eBay.

I haven't regretted mine at all yet.

Just got an email from ebay for 20% off ($50 max), and I've seen at least two other ebay coupons this week. The discounts are definitely out there.

The 20% coupon right now is for only a handful of sellers (who probably all raised their prices before the coupon was sent out).

The 15% coupon for any seller expired yesterday. They seem to do general coupons once a month or so though.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

Before I get too carried away and do something stupid, a question: My only experience with VR was with the Jurassic World VR thing they have at Dave and Busters. I think they use a Vive for that.

It was cool but the graphics/colors seemed flat, washed out, and the screen door effect was pretty obvious. Does that sound in line with typical VR visuals?

Re: PC Gaming Thread

Not really, the graphics and color are pretty vibrant on everything I've played thus far. Screen door effect does exist in VRs current state tho. I had a PSVR before getting a Rift and that was a night and day upgrade.

The Rift intro demo with the Johnny 5 looking robot won me over immediately.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

Cleaned out the piggy bank (literally) and found some extra fun money, and decided to pick up a rift yesterday.

Holy shit.

This thing is real neat. Real neat. All I've done is the robot demo, which was absolutely insane, and Google Earth, which is even more insane.

I'm beyond impressed, and have made the full 180 from hard skeptic to total believer.

I can't figure out, though, how to play games bought through Steam on Rift. I've read that it can be done but I can't seem to figure it out. Most articles online are from like 2016 and j have to believe the process has been streamlined since then.

Scratch that. I did figure out how to set up and run SteamVR, and I've been playing Superhot VR and

OH MY GOD THIS IS WILD.

This is really impressive...

Re: PC Gaming Thread

Finally made it to Battletech, which is weird since I still have all the old technical readouts and House manuals from 1e. It's quite a deep game. I keep replaying the first two missions, much in the same way I can keep playing the first mission in Memoir 44 and still have a great time.

I'd love to see what Subnautica is like in VR.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

Bought No Man's Sky from Humble Bundle for $23.99. Only played it for a couple of hours, but I like it a lot. Don't know if it's necessarily something I would binge play, but it will be nice to dip in and out of.

The Oculus Go has an app based on Google Street View called "Wander". It's fantastic:

The Robot Demo, Super Hot, Beat Saber and Google Earth are my go-tos so far for showing off the headset

Glad to see they figured out some form of Google Earth for it, that thing is a system seller through and through.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

My kids LOVE the robot demo, and also the Toy Box. It's been really interesting to see how quickly they adapt to playing in the VR environment. My youngest is 5 and after just a few minutes she's moving shit around like it's second nature.

Robo Recall was included in my bundle, and I've played a bit of that as well. It's cool, although the first time a robot came rushing directly towards me, I immediately stopped and took the headset off. It was an alarming sensation.

This...I did end up DL and so far it's been fun. I've liked the way they made the dungeon areas play and frankly the game looks pretty good. It does remind me of how Warframe is being Free-to-Play with a lot of options on buying cosmetic stuff...I see a lot of players around my level 12-18 with fancy effects and gear but that's all cool. I went with a Necromancer using Zombies.

Watch the keynote live in Oculus Venues, September 26th at 10 a.m. PT.

I'll probably watch it for Oculus Santa Cruz news/release date.

I love that strap. That is what VR should have had from the getgo!

Finished Mad Max the other day. Amazing value for money considering I paid $4.99 for it.

I'm not big on VR, but even I really dig the specs, price point, and look of the Oculus Quest as finally being "mainstream" ready.
