So the new shorter cooler is almost here. Now the next step is cable clutter. I usually use Corsair for my PSU but everyone tells me they are overpriced. What's the best fully modular PSU out there that is at least an equivalent replacement to my Corsair GS800?

Thanks. In that case, I'll keep it. Also, that link is far better than the one I found which just blabbed about AMD's commitments to PC gaming but with no mention of what the software does.

Unless you are running Crossfire, a 1000w PSU is major overkill.

So the Steam Streaming Beta Client is now public, tested it from a Windows 7 Desktop to a Windows 8.1 Laptop. On Wi-Fi it worked okay, some drops here and there, Hardwired it was excellent.

And just like that, old laptops are now viable game consoles/steam boxes/htpcs.

Been meaning to try this, I have an Ultrabook with just integrated graphics that I can't really play games on. If this is viable for some less twitchy games, that's awesome.

Yeah but with Prime and the $15 coupon, that PSU comes down to $221.68 shipped. The 850 model is $220.42 and doesn't qualify for Prime. SO bizarrely, the bigger PSU is more cost effective for me. I'm just concerned that it is indeed just as good (in terms of reliability) or better than my current and unfortunately non-modular Corsair GS800.

Damn, that's expensive. Seems like there should be an option for half that much that would work for you. Not that I know one off hand...

850W is still overkill. 600-650W is about what you want. I wouldn't worry too much about the difference between 80Plus Gold and Platinum. You should be able to find a good modular one for ~$100-$150.

Yep, either of those should do you good. I'd maybe do some searching and see if one is quieter than the other, but they both make good quality PSU's.

FYI, internally the XFX is a Seasonic G model, which is a solid PSU. For a few bucks more the XFX add a couple of bells and whistles like making it fully modular vs semi-modular and adding the switch to have the fan shut off at low temps.

Fully modular is just a waste of money, I don't see the point at all. Besides, the Corsair one he linked looks like it's fully modular too. Maybe you were comparing it to the Seasonic version. The auto-off fan sounds nice though.

Fully modular just means the power cable to the motherboard is modular as well, which is pointless because you never don't use that cable. Definitely go with a semi-modular PSU, and there's no reason to actively avoid a fully modular one, just don't spend extra in order to go fully modular... it's just a marketing ploy.

Looks like they're running in 1080p on both sides. The odds of someone being able to run in 1080p and being stuck on Low is pretty low.

I've been having some issues with my computer. It's been overheating really fast, and even CS:GO on Medium/High settings has been running my cards into 90+ degree territory has give me a few blue screens. I think it might be accumulation of dust and such in the fans, as I haven't really cleaned it in 3 years... Is that probably what it is? Functioning normally otherwise. I'll probably take it to a shop because with SLI and liquid cooling, I don't really know how to disassemble and clean this thing safely. It probably needs a lot of TLC.

Sounds like a dust issue. Have you noticed that it's been running loud, particularly at idle when it should be quiet?

Since it has been so long, and it is severe enough to cause issues, then the heatsinks and radiators are probably clogged enough that it will need some disassembly to be properly cleaned.

Thanks. That's what I thought regarding disassembly. I'll probably take it to a shop tonight.

The case was always pretty loud, I can't really tell a difference. It does seem to get louder than it used to under load though.
