Gran Turismo 6 - The PS3's Glorious Ride Into The Sunset
Well, lost in all the Next-Gen excitement is this game which comes out today. I grabbed a copy from Redbox at 7 this morning using a free code and am looking forward to trying it out after work today. Looks amazing and has a huge stable of cars (as opposed to another recent driving game which shall not be named).

It's getting lukewarm reviews. An incredibly average (or in the case of GT, very low) 74.44% so far with 9 reviews.

Of course, the guy that gave it 65/100 admitted to not liking or understanding the appeal of racing games like this.

IGN's 8.0 Review
<iframe width="853" height="480" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/OeqEULqSn3s" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
The Verdict
Gran Turismo 6’s problems are baggage the series has been carrying since 1997; the second you thunk into a wall at 200 kilometres per hour and drive off scot-free, or hop into a belching V8 that sounds more like a wheezing milkshake maker, the glass shatters and the illusion breaks with it. But when you’re on one of Gran Turismo 6’s absolutely gorgeous tracks, fused with the car you’re controlling, attacking apexes with confidence and devouring sectors with steely precision, it’s not hard to see why this series is deservedly regarded as one of the best of its kind, and this one is no exception.
Gran Turismo 6 on PS3
8.0
Great
GT6's incredible array of tracks and fantastic driving dynamics are still being undermined by old series gripes. RT\\
+Incredible tracks
+Impeccable handling
+Plenty of racing
– Mostly poor audio
– Toothless damage

Looking forward to it, especially after the very average (at best) Forza 5. I think I already know what my only real complaint is going to be, which is the bad audio. I just don't understand why neither Turn10 or Polyphony seem to put any real effort into the audio, when it's such a huge part of the experience.

I thought the sound in Forza 5 was pretty damn good. What were your problems with it?

The other issue is that the cars sound nothing like their real-world counterparts! Especially when it comes to modifying them. The backfire noise is especially atrocious (and exactly the same for every car). Not to mention that any car you modify the exhaust on with a race exhaust will now backfire.

Aren't they supposed to be upgrading the audio in a patch at some point? I thought I remembered reaading that some time ago.
I will be grabbing my copy later today.

edit: I found this:
http://www.gamespot.com/forums/syste...data-29449179/
"I think I mentioned this in the past, but we're really working to change the fundamental way that the engine sound works," Yamauchi said in a press event at Polyphony's offices in Tokyo. "Right now I have a feeling that it might not make it for day one for GT6."
There's still hope that improved audio will be patched in at a later date. "There's a good possibility that we might do this," Yamauchi said when pressed on whether it'll be part of the post-release support, and Gran Turismo at least has good form in this regard - Gran Turismo 5 benefited from a series of updates that resulted in a much improved version 2.0.

DTOID'S review has me interested in getting this. I still need to start up 5 first. One of the race events sounds crazy!

Stupid question but, is this playable with the standard PS3 controller? With Xbox you have the analog triggers which work great for gas and brakes. Not sure what the PS3 controller has.

It has analog triggers. I added caps to mine. The caps curve out and make the triggers feel much better.

GT5 did as well; it just wasn't the default, IIRC. I guess they figured a lot of gamers came from the PS2 GTs and expected to use the face buttons. Or did you mean, it now has real triggers since he applied the caps?
I also highly recommend the trigger caps. I wouldn't use a PS3 controller without them. Well, actually I highly recommend a wheel, but it's not absolutely necessary.

analog triggers + caps = Analog Triggers.
Guess it was too abstract a joke.

Well this is definitely a different type of promotion. Purchase GT6 for $39.99 at select retailers and get one million in game credits.

I'm guessing the game didn't sell very well? Has anyone seen sales figures lately?

Of course one million virtual credits doesn't cost them a damn thing, so why not do it to drum up sales?
