There's no point in waiting for Scorpio if I don't have an HDR TV, right? I went ahead and purchased the slim model. I have a small high definition TV.

If you don't have a 4K UHD TV, then Scorpio's ability for 4K graphics in games isn't necessary for you. However, there's the chance that the Scorpio will enable better 1080p graphics for a game as well. Also, Scorpio will support VR headsets.

The Xbox One S can output UHD video (streaming or Blu-ray), and can do HDR for video and for games.

All XB1 games will be playable on any XB1 console, whether it's the original, the S, or Scorpio.

Wow, that would suck.

MS has never been all that excited about bringing new exclusive IPs to market the past decade. And with the dismal sales of ReCore and Quantum Break, I wouldn't be surprised.

Scalebound never really looked...great, but I was holding out hope that Kamiya and company could turn it around. Wonder what the future holds.

Sunset Overdrive didn't seem to do that great either, and that's especially disappointing. No idea about Ryse. There's Ori and the Blind Forest, though...!

Eurogamer's sources confirm the cancellation.

...and Microsoft has made it official.

After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for “Scalebound.” We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including “Halo Wars 2,” “Crackdown 3,” “State of Decay 2,” “Sea of Thieves” and other great experiences.

In other words, sequels! (and a Rare game that no one seems to really care about)

I also thought this tweet was kinda funny:

Microsoft's E3 2014 announcements: ✅ Ori and the Blind Forest ❌ Scalebound ❌ Phantom Dust remake ❌ Project Spark ❓ Crackdown 3 Uhh...

I know this idea might be controversial, but games like Scalebound on the brink of cancellation MS can start their own crowdfunding campaign? Don't know how well that would go over with the gaming public...

Throw in Fable Legends from the year before, and that's a lot of failed attempts from Microsoft that they were pushing hard. Their 2017 looks pretty sparse for me as far as titles i'm interested in

Doubt there's any reason for Microsoft to do something like that, since I imagine they must have felt the game was in a pretty bad state given the time and money already put in to it to just cancel it outright. Whatever they could get from a Kickstarter for this is probably minuscule compared to what they've put in already.

And any inkling about the game being close to cancellation would probably be a red flag for any donations. At least for me, anyway.

It's a possibility, but unless the publisher went bankrupt, there's probably a really good reason they dropped the project after putting so much money into it.

Plus, there's the problem of who "owns" the project. MS likely still owns publishing rights, and may need to be "bought out" for the developers to continue and publish with anyone else. So it wouldn't be just completion money that's needed.

Plus, as the project is already ongoing, the developer may need funds pretty much near instantly in order for development to continue. a 30-day Kickstarter, with something like a week after it ends for funding to come through, may be too long. Keep in mind they have to keep paying people to stay on the project, or otherwise move them to other projects or let them go, which could further hinder development.

I'm shocked about Scalebound since that game was built up and given some positive feedback. I thought the concept and co-op part really looked promising. I don't have a XO but I am on the PC (with Gears) and had this on my list to look forward to.

re: Xbox One: S $249 Now / X $499 November 7 2017

So I've been playing around with my new XBox One S for a few weeks now.

So far I like it.

Just a few comments to make on a few games I bought:

Forza Horizon 3: I've played a few hours so far and I love the animations and cars. Maybe because I'm not a really hardcore gamer, but driving with the XBox controller is kind of difficult. I crash a lot. Very frustrating.

Doom: Another game that I'm not used to the controls. Played on 2 different levels and have gotten killed within 10 minutes. I guess I'm not really that comfortable controlling the aiming, firing and re-loading.

I really don't miss any of the 360 games that I sold to acquire the cash to get this. I still have Gears of War 4 and a used copy of Sleeping Dogs to play with.

I do enjoy the video streaming aspect. I can stream my Netflix and Amazon accounts in 4K on select shows and movies. Even Hulu allows me to stream in 4K on there for select shows.

I really don't have any UHDs (only Magnificent Seven), but it looks terrific.

Fortified has been on my watch list for a while due to good word of mouth here, so I'm tempted by the Gold deal at $7.50. I still have a big backlog, though.

re: Xbox One: S $249 Now / X $499 November 7 2017

Scalebound always looked awful to me. I was genuinely bummed about the Phantom Dust cancellation.

Overall this gen has been kind of meh on the Xbox. I question if it is me getting old and having less time but I partially just think the games haven't been as... I don't know... distinct? When No Man's Sky was announced I legitimately feared I just simply bought the wrong system this gen. But then it flopped horribly.

Now my XO is a an Overwatch player where I sometimes throw in a free Xbox Gold game.

More backward compatible games added today

Today's additions come from Electronic Arts, with Battlefield Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, and Dragon Age: Origins all now playable on the Xbox One
BC2 was a free GWG title back in 2014, so maybe the online community will be hopping now.

I have the Ultimate Edition of DA: Origins. I wonder if it will let me play the second disc with all of the DLC.

Those seem like some good titles to add to the EA Access Vault. And it's about the right time of the month for that to happen, too.

DA: Origins is huge for me (probably a top ten title personally), I have the Ultimate Edition as well (and the original steelbook too)...the second disc with the DLC should work just peachy. I'll try to remember to give it a shot tonight to make sure, but I've been a little busy lately.
