Yeah, taking the time to make game demos always takes a good chunk of time away from developers to specifically create, especially deciding what to show off. The first 20 minutes of a game might be a terrible example of the game, as would be throwing someone in the middle of the game with no idea what they're doing. Demos or events and trade shows always pretty much took a month away from development time to prepare for in my experience.

My hunch is we'll see a lot of demos again for upcoming games, but was difficult to ask developers to do for launch window titles.

And March update news - http://news.xbox.com/2014/02/xbox-on...iplayer-update

Get to your friends list faster. The friends list will be front and center on the homepage of the Friends app. Click the Social tile on Home, or say “Xbox, go to Friends” to see who’s online and what they’re up to. From there you can quickly send messages and get into a party.

Party chat will be turned on by default. When you party up, chat audio will be turned on by default.

Chat with friends playing different games. Party chat will be separated from people playing your game, so you can chat with your friends who are online or you can chat with everyone playing the game.

We’re adding an “Invite friends to game” option to your multiplayer titles moving forward. Similar to Xbox 360 titles, this will appear inside a games’ menu and offer a simple and quicker way to set up your multiplayer battles. Selecting “Invite friends” will let you invite friends to your game and party.

We’re adding “Recent Players.” This is a simple list that shows you Xbox Live members you’ve recently played with, making it easier to stay in touch with people, or add new friends after your multiplayer battles.

I still haven't seen "friend notifications" mentioned in either update. All of those March updates will be useless if we are never informed when a friend comes online.

I haven't been following this much because I don't have a One yet but is there any explanation for why basic features from the 360 party system weren't in the One at launch? These announcements sound like they are adding new features but it's actually like a car manufacturer putting out a new model, adding wheels and headlights later and toting it as a new thing.

I would think they would be more apologetic about this stuff instead of pretending that they didn't drop the ball at release.

Microsoft wanted the system out around the same time as the PS4. Why some of this wasn't out on Day One I can't answer, but they're not detrimental to the system. I would still like to be able to mute controls within apps/dashboard.

Yeah, my guess is they just didn't have enough time for launch and concentrated on other core features. Seems like both Sony and Microsoft dropped a few things to get their consoles released.

It's because you losers didn't want the always online, unlimited sharing concept that would've revolutionized the industry, so they had to take it out and couldn't work on the basics. You're lucky they kept the Kinect in, or the console would've shipped without a functional right thumbstick, support to be added later.

In all seriousness, both consoles whiffed at even getting parity with the last gen. PS 4 still has no 3D blu-ray support, or heck even an option for a remote control. And the One just barely stealth-fixed the horrid sync problem with Blu-ray and DVD playback that some were experiencing. I saw a bunch of people dropped the whole TV-through-One experience, anyone else still onboard with that? I was tempted to try it during the Superbowl but thought better of it.

Noticed last night during a promo that the new WWE network will be on 360, PS3, and PS4 but not the One. They did make it a point to say that the 360 was one of the only ways to output their content to an analog TV, though. Also because of my niche viewing habits, I noticed that Crunchyroll is on the 360 but not the One.

I find it very disconcerting that a lot of 360 apps aren't on the One yet. I have a Rhapsody account. It's not a big deal since I own an Onkyo receiver that plays my music, but it's annoying knowing I could use it on a 360 and not a One. All I need now is a Sirius XM app and I'm pretty much good to go.

I hope to never get the WWE Network on my system.

... and guess what? You'll need to complete an update to use these accessories!

Make sure your console is on and you’re signed in and connected to Xbox Live. It’s important to connect to Xbox Live because your console will need the latest system update, which contains the newest controller software. If you’ve connected recently, your Xbox One is probably already up to date, but you should connect anyway just to be sure. If your console needs an update, you’ll be prompted to install one.

Open the battery compartment on the back of the controller and remove the batteries.

Plug the Stereo Headset Adapter into the bottom of your controller. (You can also plug in a headset but that’s not required.)

Plug the big end of the included USB cable into the port on the side of the console.

Plug the small end of the USB cable into the top of the controller.

Instructions to install the update should automatically be displayed. Follow the instructions, and don’t disconnect the USB cable while the update is in progress.

When the update is complete, put the batteries back into your controller.

Press the Xbox button on the Wireless Controller to turn it on. Your controller is now up-to-date, and you’re ready to use your Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter.

You only need to update your controller one time, but if you plan to use the Stereo Headset Adapter with other Xbox One Controllers, you’ll need to do this process for each controller.
Jesus Christ.

Yep - use it and love it. It works flawlessly for me (although it had audio issues before one of the early updates not long after Day One). I love the fact that I can be across the room (or in another room) and voice activate my way to a channel. Same goes for turning the TV off.

Same for me, though I do have it drop every once in awhile but it looks like its because of my HDMI cable.

But use it all the time and love it.

The WWE app will hit the Xbox One over the summer. Everything takes a few extra months to hit the One.

Why? Is it that the PS 4 architecture is similar to the PS3 or something?

re: Xbox One: S $249 Now / X $499 November 7 2017

From MajorNelson:

I’ve seen a lot of questions about what will / won’t work. Here is an easy way to think about it:

*Legacy gaming headsets get game audio from the back of the console from the S/PDIF port. Get chat audio by connecting the 2.5mm chat cable to the adapter,
*New Xbox One headsets – get chat and stereo directly from the adapter. No need to connect anything to the console.
*Any 3.5mm stereo headset (that uses the CTIA plug standard) can get stereo game audio by plugging into the adapter.
I think the last one is great, you can choose to either your cheapo iPhone headphones, or your $500 cans. Hoping, of course, that there aren't issues with the sound.

re: Xbox One: S $249 Now / X $499 November 7 2017

I unplugged my cable from the Xbox about an hour ago and I can't think of any reason that would get me to put it back in.

I have had a list of issues with the whole set up since day one:
kinect would regularly register someone's hand and initialize gesture controls, which are inarguably useless;
voice commands were spotty at best, especially when watching a news cast, sporting event, or generally whenever there were other voices present;
cable signal regularly dropped;
And I never got over feeling like an ass talking to the TV, especially when I was trying to show off the voice commands and they didn't feel like working just then.

I don't have cable, but I am totally the opposite on voice. I freaking <3 the voice commands. We regularly complain that the BR player won't let us pause with a spoken command.

Yeah, I haven't had voice command issues either...maybe it depends on how well-spoken you are.
