Yep, it filled a nice nitch that I did not thought was going to be filled by Backwards compatibility. It helps me keep the hope maybe for a wrestling game (Rumble Roses or those WWE ones with all of the legends) or NCAA Football to perhaps get the nod one of these days.

A bunch of rumors the other day about the next Xbox console(s) and the streaming stuff that was mentioned at E3.

First, Microsoft is building a traditional console that you would expect from the Xbox brand. I think it’s important to point this out so that those who prefer to have all their hardware locally, will have an option with the next generation Xbox.
As for specs for this device, that’s still not known at this time as it’s the early days of development for that piece of hardware. But what I am starting to hear more about is the second device, a streaming box that is designed to work with the company’s upcoming game streaming platform.
Scarlett Cloud as one person called it, is the game streaming service that we have all been envisioning ever since Microsoft showed off a demo game streaming at its all-employee meeting back in 2013. But this time, Microsoft has a path to bring it to market.
The second ‘console’ that the company is working on is a lower-powered device that is currently planned to ship with the next generation device that is designed for game-streaming. But the catch here is that Microsoft thinks it has figured out how to handle the latency sensitive aspects of gaming.
The cloud console will have a limited amount of compute locally for specific tasks like controller input, image processing, and importantly, collision detection. The downside of this is that it since more hardware is needed locally, it will raise the price of the streaming box but it will still cost significantly less than what we are accustomed to paying for a new-generation console which should help expand the platform’s reach.

Even with gigabit internet, which I have, I still prefer a hardware based console. Too many variables I can't control with streaming only.

GWG for August
XBO: Forza Horizon 2, For Honor
X360: Dead Space 3, Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two
Overall not a bad month. For Honor is a short but fun playthrough.

Damn man, these update files for games are pretty damn ridiculous. I bought a used copy the other day of Marvel vs Capcom Infinite.
Total disc and internet update is about 65 gigs. I don’t have a super fast internet connection, so it’s been such a chore downloading it. I think it took 5 1/2 or close to 6 hours to download. It sucks to eat up all this time as you can even play the game until the update is done.
That’s why nowadays I don’t buy too many games. The massive update files eat up so much hard drive space and time.

I love how the background of home screen is the game you’re currently playing. I have new DOOM going and background is all red with beasties and such. Don’t know when this changed. Probably awhile now, but never noticed till DOOM popped up. Pretty cool...

Edit: Tomb Raider: Anniversary & Tomb Raider: Legend were added to backwards compatibility today. They are both on sale at $1.99 a piece.

Tomb Raider Anniversary is totally worth $1.99 if you never played the original game. They didn't a decent job bringing it over to 360.

I'm REALLY liking this new translucent controller. I'm hoping this goes on sale during BF. I'm not dropping $70 on it.

It's been in Game Preview for like two years now. If it's buggy now, it will never be fixed.

Huh. Polygon seemed to love it both on their published review but also their (mostly echo-y) Quality Control podcast: https://www.polygon.com/2018/8/9/176...n-4-windows-pc

Weird... I thought I saw a post from Adam. Must've been deleted.
Anyway... fair enough. I know Jim Sterling is a bit hyperbolic, but he raises good points throughout his video. That said... I'm still interested in checking this out at some point. I had thought it was going to be a Game Pass title, but I guess I was wrong, since distribution is via Gearbox, not MS. I played the demo of the Game Preview many months ago, but didn't really give it much time.

Yeah, I deleted it.
Yesterday, I saw a bunch of people shrug, say that Jim was being Jim and exaggerating, and that while there are bugs, it's not remotely as broken as he makes it out to be.
As soon as I posted something to that effect, I saw a bunch of posts saying no, it really is incredibly buggy. So, I figured I'd just shut up since I haven't really been following the game too closely anyway and am not super-familiar with what's going on.
One of the devs posted about all this yesterday and made it sound like it was a "you have to get this out the door" situation, even though they knew about many/most of these issues.

If the texture grip on the back of the controllers were not enough, now we have textured grip triggers coming soon!
https://www.engadget.com/amp/2018/08...trigger-grips/
And now preorder is up. But I don't love the look. Hopefully it comes to other controllers.

I play a lot of Rainbow Six: Siege and CoD (less these days) and in those panic moments, I'd love a controller that didn't so easily "knife" at my opponent when I'm trying to move one way or the other. I'm sure this happens due to operator error, but it can be very frustrating.
