re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong
It's time to upgrade my HDD for the PS4.
My buddy told me to use this one in the link, but this appears different in all of the other recommendations.

Yes, that's an external, but you can crack open the case and use the internal, I believe. I recall people doing that because the externals were (for some reason) cheaper.
PS: I do not miss Canadian prices

Of course opening an external drive voids its warranty. For that reason, I went with an internal drive regardless of the weirdly higher price.

If not.....I think I would rather pay a few extra bucks for an internal drive rather than trying to mess around by pulling the HD out of an external case.
Should I make the jump to the 2TB or stick with the cheaper 1TB which I am assuming should handle my future storage needs?

The PS4 does not support external drives. You can crack open an external drive and use the drive inside the housing as an internal drive, but as I noted it will void the drive's warranty.

Has anyone bought stuff from cdkeys.com ? Apparently they have a year of PS+ for $42.99, and you can get an extra 5% off for liking their facebook page. (saw this at Cheapassgamers)

Seems like a good deal, but it sounds a bit shady, so I'm not sure ...

My mistake, you can't use an external for storing games.
You can use an external for backing up the system though, which may be a good thing to do when replacing the internal drive. Back up the old one to an external drive, then put the new drive inside and restore from the external.

Also, aside from voiding the warranty, when cracking open an external drive to use the drive inside, you have to be wary of models where the internal drive has a USB interface directly on the drive instead of SATA. The specific model linked to seems to contain a Samsung Spinpoint drive with a SATA interface, so it would work.

They are a UK company, so just make sure it's a US PS Plus membership. They sell stuff for both regions.

That is the one I have in mine and recommend it. If I get the Pro (leaning towards it) then I will be getting another one of these for it as well.
What is weird though is using the Best Buy app it comes up for $80.99, versus the $119.99 in your link so don't pay that. It's about $80 on Amazon as well.

I was under the impression that PS4 did not support the use of external drives like the XBONE does? If it does support, what are the pros and cons of external vs internal?
If not.....I think I would rather pay a few extra bucks for an internal drive rather than trying to mess around by pulling the HD out of an external case.

Turns out that the PS4 Pro has an extra gig of RAM. It can't be used for gaming purposes, instead meant to help with app switching and stuff, but it does free up some of the regular 8 GB of RAM. More tech stuff at Eurogamer.

The DDoS attack was on Dyn (DNS servers), it hurts some more than others.

Dyn is the DNS provider being hit. Sony may be one of their clients. Here's at least a partial list of their clients:

Ended up buying Madden 16 (used), and Last of Us Remastered, Just Cause 3 and Fallout 4 ($20 each). With U4 and Uncharted Collection, I'm good 'til 2020!

Some new officially licensed controllers for the PS4 coming out, I'd be all over the second one if it were Wireless.
