re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

They don't even have a Blu-ray remote out for the PS4 yet (nor have made the PS3 remote compatible for it). I hate to say it, but it seems like Sony has gotten a little bit lazy with being ahead of the competition...

If you want a media center, buy a PS3. It absolutely smokes both of the new consoles.

And of course the PS4's media capabilities will expand over time. Only a complete dumbass would say otherwise.

Not sure to be perfectly honest, I would say yes, but I wouldn't count on it being anytime soon. The Xbox One is leaps and bounds ahead of Sony with media features, and I think Sony's choice is intentional. I think the Xbox One is the best all-in-one media device on the market and has superior multitasking, but the PS4 is a superior gaming machine and a majority of those media features can be purchased on a $30 HDMI Stick.

I used to own a WDTV for the whole MKV/MP4/AVI thing but have since moved on to Plex (which works on my Xbox One, Roku 3, Amazon Fire TV Stick and Chromecast). While I was initially enamored with the Xbox One integration of all my video playback needs and the fact it supported Harmony IR remotes, I eventually still went back to the Roku 3.

Plex just hit the EU PSN store, so I wager it'll hit the NA store soon.

You're right, they also added a Playstation forum on the Plex site today. It's in about 40 countries, just not the US.

SCEA being incompetent as usual.

FYI, you can already use Plex on your PS4 through the web browser for free. I assume the app just gives you the opportunity to pay a fee to use it.

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

It just runs a lot better with an actual interface outside of the web browser.

Well, even if it is bad news, I do appreciate everyone's feedback on this.

I got a big giftcard from my work and I have been thinking about getting a next gen machine so I feel this is the time to do it (specifically tongiht). Was hoping this would be my first Playstation but the fact is, I play CoD on my Xbox and thats about it so I am sure I will be happy with a One, even though the graphics and performance is 10% less then a PS4.

And what is the deal with Plex? It allows you to stream your files to multiple devices but you have to pay for that?!

If you are truly a gamer then you can't go wrong with either system.

No. Plex only charges you a one time fee for individual applications on a few platforms, it's like $5. The Server application is free, and the PC player is free.

They offer a service called MyPlex which lets you share your media out over the internet to friends/family. That's the pay service. Turns your home server into your own custom Netflix, I do this for my parents that live a few hours away and they stream it to their Roku.

Ah ok that makes sense. That's for explaining it. The way how I read it, they want to charge $5 a month just to stream (albeit to a ton of different devices).

Still not sure what to do. Part of me thinks the Xbox One is the way to go as it sounds like it will play a ton of files out of the box plus I can transfer my Live account over. Plus $399 for the AC bundle to me seems like a better value then $449 for the FarCry 4/Last of Us bundle (though have never played any of these games). The other alternative is to get a WD TV and a PS4 but then that is even more money gone.

Honestly if media that important to you, then get the Xbox One. The PS4 is a better gaming console, hands down, but as an overall package the One, especially at its cheaper price, is tough to beat. If you're in the US, the Xbox One is $349 until the New Year.

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

Is it possible to have more fun in 90 minutes of Loadout than a dozen hours of Destiny? Why yes, yes it is.

Played a bit and leveled up to 4. Pretty fun game... and a helluva game for free. Not sure what I'm doing in the inventory/fusing screen though.

Lastly, why has it taken 15 years to get a dying character to nonchalantly hold up their arm and flip the bird? Hilariously awesome.

Yep, gotta agree. Loadout is pretty fun, a feeling I never experienced during my time with Destiny.

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

I played a little Loadout at PSX and thought it was okay but nothing too remarkable. Will have to try it again. There are a LOT of F2P games coming down the pike for PS4 and some look really good. I was very impressed by Kill Strain which seems deep, complex and fun (and while every F2P guy says their game is very playable without spending a dime, it really appeared to be the case with this one.

Made the decision and picking up a PS4 in a few hours (bundle with Far Cry 4 and Last of Us). Also going to pick up CoD: Advanced Warfare. I wateched some video and screenshot comparisons and even though I am not a hardcore gamer, you can see the difference easily with the PS4. Also, the exclusives look pretty damn awesome.

In the end, I figure I am better off investing a few extra dollars into the better machine with the better library of games (at least for now) and solution the media bit via a different means (TV Stick or WD TV). I would hate to but an Xbox One and then not use it much for games.

I agree. Also you picked the system that gives you actually good free games with annual online subscription. One gives you Injustice, The Swapper and inFamous First Light, the other has Chariot, Worms and .... VOLGARR!!!!

I give Volgarr credit for having a vulgar name, they named the game after the state its players turn to.

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

I didn't much like Loadout on my first play. Controls felt off to me. I will give it another go, but it doesn't seem like anything I'm going to be playing.

Super Mega Baseball($20) I am enjoying though.
