You can update the PS4 system software via a USB flash drive:
https://www.playstation.com/en-us/su...m-updates/ps4/

Games and game updates aren't transferrable like that though. There's a backup and restore feature, but this backs up the whole system, not just select games.

Satellite internet services often have an "unlimited internet" period overnight. Nightshift uses this to pre-download Netflix for streaming:
https://www.gonightshift.com/

Depending on your router, you could maybe configure it so it only allows the PS4 online during the unmetered period.
http://www.ianswerguy.com/limit-inte...uter-settings/

You could mail your PS4 to someone and they could update and download games and digital updates for you if you trust them with your username/password.

Or, a much more convoluted way would be to backup your PS4 to an external drive, send that to someone with a PS4 and internet. They then take their PS4, stick in a new harddrive, restore your backup, log in as you and download/install games/updates, backup to your external again, swap back in their original harrddrive, and mail you back the external, which you then use to restore on your PS4.

I'm not sure if activation as primary console would be an issue:

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

Very helpful guys, I appreciate that! Thank you so much! I will have to get to town to download the update. Now I have never done this, but I have thought if taking my PS4 to a hotel (I stay out of town alot) and just download from that internet. Anyone tried that before?

As long as you can connect to WiFi, it shouldn't be an issue. Depending on the internet speeds though, it could take awhile.

I have brought my PS4 to a hotel knowing that I was going to be living out of there for work for a week. Works fine as long as it's modern and the TV in the room has HDMI

And yeah, like mattysemo247 says decent enough internet.

Some (most?) hotels don't include an ethernet cable, and Wifi is usually very slow. so don't forget to bring a cable if you want to be hard-wired!

Do many hotels even have ethernet ports? I've stayed in quite a few where it was wifi or nothing.

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

Sometimes they aren't in obvious places.

  • Look near the desk, sometimes they do make it easy
  • Check the back of the TV. Many hotel entertainment systems use ethernet, and I’ve been able to use this connection to plug into a travel router.
  • Some hotels will have an ethernet port and RCA/HDMI ports on a panel near the TV - but I’ve found the ethernet ports are sometimes not wired up.
  • The phone - sometimes the phone system is an IP telephone and has an ethernet jack
  • The Hotel wireless access point - I’ve found these in various places in the room (including in closets) and sometimes they have wired ports directly on the device.
Using these methods I am able to find and use a wired ethernet connection in about 7 out of 10 hotels I stay in.

And when downloading games and shit, I find that it downloads much faster in rest mode FYI.

In addition to Adam's post, I'll just say, anecdotally, there's almost always a port but rarely an actual cable. When there's a port, they've always been active. I guess I'm lucky. Still, hotel wifi is usually unbearably slow unless you pay for "premium" speed. Only exception was some random hotel in Bismarck, ND where the speed was like 25Mbps up and down. Blew my mind.

hotel internet is usually slow, because some shmo down the hall is hogging all the bandwidth by downloading torrents or updating his ps4.

Well, if you want to be considerate to others in the hotel, You could only hook the PS4 up to run updates overnight, when most are asleep.

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

Did you guys get that year in review email from Playstation? It has some cool stats in there. If so what are your most played games for the year? Here are mine:

GTA V - 585 hours
NBA 2K17 - 277 hours
Friday the 13th - 129 hours

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

I don't understand why I don't get emails from Playstation. I mean I get the occasional week in review and the "you purchased this game" emails, but never the promotional ones with the discount codes or anything. The one time I want spam I can't get it.

I get weekly updates, but also never get the discount codes that people always mention.

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

I got my year-in-review an hour or two ago.

Spoiler:

(I didn't actually play Agents of Mayhem that much. For the Connected Contracts trophy, I just left my PS4 running almost non-stop for the better part of a week.)

410 trophies sounds insanely high until I see that I got 420 trophies in 2016. It's a little buggy, telling me that my first platinum of 2017 was for Agents of Mayhem, when that was actually the fifth of five...just a few weeks ago, many months after Gravity Rush 2, Horizon: Zero Dawn, NieR: Automata, and Knack II. It also tells me that I only got 4 platinums, when...nah.

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

Cool, I never bought RiME. Played it a bit on a rental and it wasn't bad. Nice, mellow puzzle game.

I have Knack, but it was only $5 when I bought it last year (and was that price again last week). After years of waiting for it to be the PS Plus game, I finally gave up.

Edit : We also get Grand Kingdom for the PS Vita and PS4. It's not a Cross-Buy game and the PS4 version is $39.99 but they're giving us both versions (as they have done previously with some other games as well including Psycho Pass : Mandatory Happiness this past month). Lot of value with this service.

I really enjoyed RiME. Probably not enough to play through it a second time though.

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

This is very nice

HDTV Supersampling for PS4 Pro. As reported back in January, those who have a PS4 Pro but not a 4K TV can still take advantage of games that render to higher resolution. With supersampling, they will downscale to match the capabilities of the connected HDTV (i.e. 1080p or less). Though not applicable to all games, it still allows PS4 Pro owners who haven’t upgraded their television to see an improvement to image clarity.
