re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong
Having just downloaded the Media Player along with playing different Video files, I have to say I'm very happy with it. Freaking finally! I guess after Xbox One indicating Backward Compatibility, this is a very big plus on the PS4 side even though they didn't even announced during their press conference.
BTW, in case you didn't know, the jump drive has to be formatted to FAT and the files need to be in folders to be recognized.

It's still easier just to watch everything through my PC, but it's nice to have another option.

Wait, what's this about a PS4 media player? Will it work like the PS3 media server and stream off my PC?

The PS4 Media Player will stream off your PC, I'm not sure if PS3 Media Server (PC software) works with it though, I just shared some MP3s through Windows Media Player to test it, which worked very well.

But there wasn't any update to the PS4 - how will it recognize the media server? I mean, is this something I have to get on my PS4 or my PC, or both?
*edit* sorry, saw this, and I guess its just it's own download. Gonna try it tomorrow!
Still, how's it gonna communicate with my PC without a media server running?

Looks like a 20th anniversary PS4 controller and headset is coming in September. I don't need another headset, but I do love the old school controller look.

To Sony's Credit, the innards of the controller are really easy to replace this gen.
To their discredit, this is the first gen I've had to take a controller apart to fix it (and not just for the hell of it).
Turns out the controller can't handle me slamming down the R2 trigger for 60 hours of Bloodborne.

No DTS or HD codec support on the media player. Bummer

Also, isn't it inevitable that they'll come out with some kind of "elite" controller now that Microsoft has one?

This might not be completely on topic but recently I noticed that the case for the PS3 and the controllers are transparent black. All these years I thought they were solid black...this is heavy.

Not a dumb question since I alos love the PS3 media player and was wondering the same thing. I will be sooooo happy if I can stream movies to the PS4.

As far as I know, the PS4 Media player itself doesn't do subtitles. Let me know if you guys can do it using the PS3 MS as an option.

Thinking about picking up at PS4. Best route for getting one? Are they ever on sale? Should I go for a bundle? Thanks OP!

I stopped using PS3 Media Server and moved to Universal Media Server. Same team of people, except they're supporting UMS. Works great on my PS3.

PlayStation 4 + The Last of Us + Bloodborne + MLB 15 The Show ($440) | GameStop
PlayStation 4 + The Last of Us + Bloodborne ($400) | GameStop
PlayStation 4 + The Last of Us + The Order 1886 + Chappie Blu-ray ($400) | Best Buy
PlayStation 4 + The Last of Us Remastered + Extra Controller ($399) | Amazon
I imagine it will be similar deals throughout the year until Black Friday. Last of Us bundle + random game and/or controller.

On a side note, Last Of Us can be bought digitally for $12.49 from GameDealDaily, just so you know what it's worth if you see a deal on a non-LoU unit.

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong
Tried the PS4 Media Player with the PS3 Media Server. And while it works great, and plays everything I throw at it, it doesn't seem to have as good upscaling as the PS3 does, if it even has any. So while actual HD content looks great, SD content looks WAY better streamed on the PS3 than it does streamed on the PS4. So with that, and a lack of a good remote, I'm still sticking with the PS3 for now. Though I'm sure those issues will be addressed soon enough.
