Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker
I picked up the four new Marvel characters via the toys r us sale, but before I open them, I was hoping to verify that they can be used with expansions like Toy Box Takeover. Anyone know? I'm not interested in Battlegrounds and don't really mess around with the toy box.

Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker
I'm pretty sure they can, but if you really want to test before you open them, you can put them on the portal without taking them out of box.

Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker
The online Disney store has the Disney Infinity 3.0 Star Wars Saga Starter Pack Bundle on sale for an extra 40% off, or $59.99 total (use code INFINITY40). Comes with Anakin and Ahsoka, of course, and also Luke, Leia, and Boba Fett. Shipping is $9.99 but there's free shipping for orders of $75 or more (use code SHIPMAGIC).
I think I'm going to go for it for the PS4. I've resisted this for a long time because it seems like a great big money suck. And yet, this seems like an excellent price, and our 4-year-old is just starting to show some interest in games. I think if she picks up on the Star Wars stuff, it will be a no-brainer to get the Inside Out playset, too, as she and our toddler love that movie (and Star Wars, thankfully). |
Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker
If you tell yourself you will never pay full price for Disney Infinity you will be alright. There are always sales where the Disney Infinity figures and packs come up on sale. a lot of buy one get one 40% off, Buy one get a second character for $1, and but 2 get 1 free sales.

There is some Toys to Life deal going on somewhere all the time. Also if folks don't care about getting a used figure you can get some pretty cheap on ebay. Also, Gamestop will have buy 2 used get 3 free sales. I have only paid full price for a handful of figures. That was only because i had to have it right away. |
Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker
I can't see any disadvantage to a used figure, is there something I'm missing?
Also picked up the 2.0 Starter Pack with Merida and Stitch for $14.34 at Amazon. This game is clearly a license to print money. Crazy. |
Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker
Used figure might be scuffed up/damaged in some way, and won't come with the card that has the code that unlocks the character online (you need the code if you want to play on PC or a mobile platform).
Other than that, only difference is that it might be leveled up some already, but when you "Take ownership" of the figure (which you need to do if you want to unlock its statue in the hall of heros and other digital goodies that come with it, such has the mini townsperson version of the character and concept art), it will be reset to level 0. |
Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker
Not the moneymaker it once was, apparently.
Disney is ending its Infinity video game line Disney announced today that it would be discontinuing its Infinity video game line. Disney will take a $147 million charge to offset the cancellation and was primarily taken from an inventory write-down. Other factors, like severance for employees and other assets, were also taken into the costs. John Blackburn, senior vice president and general manager of the Infinity franchise, said that there would be two final releases from the line, including three more chapters from Alice Through the Looking Glass and the Finding Dory playset in June. |
Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker
Are skylanders and lego dimensions done as well? All 3 have been doing 50% off sales to compete with each other...
|
Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker
my kids will be disappointed...each new movie that comes out, they look forward to the figures.
The same article mentioned that Disney wants out of the publishing business to focus instead on licensing. |

Lego will keep on going: "These Fun Packs (released today) round out the first five waves of LEGO Dimensions expansion packs, with many new expansion packs based on more of the world’s biggest entertainment brands to be revealed soon. The LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack will remain the entry point for a gaming system of play that will offer continued compatibility – everything bought today and expansions added tomorrow will continue to work together. No compatibility chart necessary! - See more at: http://brickinquirer.com/2016/05/10/lego-dimensions-wave-5-launches-today-confirms-new-expansions-to-be-revealed-soon/#sthash.ETv8KhSp.dpuf"

Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker
Maybe Lego can now license Star Wars and Indiana Jones for Dimensions.

Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker
I am saddened by this news. Just a few months ago we were made to believe that Infinity would live on through updates, added characters and playsets, etc. However, let's be honest and say that having 300 employees working on this game is a little bit of overkill.

Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker
They were the number one toys to life franchise in 2015 (this article was written just a few months ago:http://www.businessinsider.com/disne...terview-2016-3), but I guess licensing gives them money without development costs. As a game, I only really liked it when you could actually mix and match characters or have unique abilities, as the world building stuff seemed buggy and limiting, but the assortment of licenses they owned was so good I kinda regret they didn't do a more straightforward Skylanders-like tact to it, or license Infinity out to another developer.

Skylanders confirmed a 3916 release a week or two ago and with the Battlecast Card Game, I think they'll be fine. Still not getting sucked back into these GTL games. ;) |
Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker
Imagine how much these figures will cost if Disney licenses them out to someone else to develop, produce and release. You know Disney would think they deserve at least as much as they were already making per figure. Now, I really don't see another studio stepping in to do the work that Disney should have been handling a little bit better.

Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker
Disney is flat out clueless...I'm still ticked off at them for not re-newing the animated "Star Wars The Clone Wars". Seems like someone or some group at the top is always pulling the plug on animated stuff.

Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker
There is some growing concern on the Infinity forums about the functionality of the games once they decide to shut down the servers. We will see how Disney handles this. They have already lost some good will of quite a few customers.

Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker
"Infinite Moneymaker" isn't quite appropriate all of a sudden.

Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker
So I finally hopped on the Disney Infinity train since everything is on a fire sale now. With the BB sale yesterday, picked up the 3.0 starter bundle for Wii U and 6 extra figures for $42. Now it looks like BB is having another sale today on some of the playsets. My question is, is that something I need to play the game? Or is that just another way for them to bundle the figures together? I'm not trying to dump too much money in this thing now, but the Star Wars The Force Awakens Play Set for $15 seems like it might be cool.
