Re: Disney Infinity - Questions
Skylanders: Giants was also a sequel to a popular original. I don't think the first release of Skylanders was particularly popular off the bat.
Edit: Yeah, Skylanders sold like 16k on the Wii, 11k on the 360, etc; its first week. |
Re: Disney Infinity - Questions
Well, once you get past the popularity of the Disney figures then they have to deliver on the gamefront. By only offering you 3 worlds and the toybox out the gate without having to spend even more money will get around quickly to the people that want a little more value than that. I had no idea that I would have to go out and buy the Cars set just to unlock that level despite buying the Lightning McQueen crystal figure. Fortunately, these sets are on sale right now but I don't see too many people eyeballing that 35 dollar price and saying "I want that!"

Re: Disney Infinity - Questions
You have to buy specific figures to unlock entire sections of the game? That is some serious bullshit. I thought Skylanders was a rip off, but as far as I know, you didn't need any specific figure to unlock entire levels. There are just certain areas within levels that are only available to certain types of characters.

Re: Disney Infinity - Questions
Well, after talking with my daughter about this and seeing certain figures and sets on sale she decided that this will be a lion share of her Christmas gifts from us. I will post a pic here shortly of what we bought her today. I am still irked that you get very few levels to start and are forced to buy to unlock more. I am looking forward to Wreck-It-Ralph stuff whenever it does come out.

Re: Disney Infinity - Questions
I'm confused, I thought you got essentially 3 games with the starter kit?
|
Re: Disney Infinity - Questions
I believe the starter pack comes with 3 playsets each playset offering 6-8 hours of play in the story mode for each set

Re: Disney Infinity - Questions
I had already been eyeing this for a while . my two youngest kids go nuts when they see the trailers. I preordered from amazon starter set included a free figure of my choice and a power pack. Ordered the cars pack from target for half off. Thought about the lone ranger pack but I think they'll be giving that away as we get closer to the holiday. Also ordered the 2 character triple packs from Walmart. For 50% off. This should satisfy the kids and keep them busy until the inevitable toy story, wreck it Ralph and nightmare before Christmas packs
|
Re: Disney Infinity - Questions
Starter pack has monster's university, pirates of the carribean and incredible a along with the basic Disney stuff.

Yes, you do. However, if you want to play other levels you have to buy more than just a single figure for that level. You have to purchase the level packs which comes with two characters and the level pack for 30+ and tax. Now is the time to get those two extra packs (Lone Ranger and Cars) as Target has them for 17.50 plus tax.

Re: Disney Infinity - Questions
Wreck-It Ralph is the set that I'm looking forward the most. I wouldn't complain about a Nightmare Before Christmas set. I hope they come out before Christmas so that someone else can buy them for us.

Gotcha, so you get the full game if you have a character from the game, but you get DLC-style bonus levels if you have additional characters from the same universe? Makes sense.

Re: Disney Infinity - Questions
So wait, I can't do co-op play doing just the starter pack then, because there's only one character for each level?

It would be cool to see how Jack Sparrow would be able to interact in the Monsters level and vice versa. They dropped the ball in this regard if you ask me.

and the Wii won't even support it in story mode with 2 same themed figs |
Re: Disney Infinity - Questions
That's really, really stupid (from a player's perspective, not from a Disney makes lots of money perspective).

Re: Disney Infinity - Questions
ca$h cow ... how soon till they release vinylmation versions of the figs ;)
by the way, the family got back from WDW 2 weeks ago and the only advertising I saw for this was in the busses shuttling us back and forth Looks like the wife came back from TRU with the starter pack, free fig (Mike W), Cars playset, 2 disc packs, and the previously mentioned protection plan .... guess the damage/hurt could have been worse but I know it's coming based on all the Monster High crap we have taking up our living space |

Re: Disney Infinity - Questions
Yeah it looks like if you price match stuff and everything you can get all the major stuff for around 175$
|
Re: Disney Infinity - Questions
Ill stick to just getting Skylanders Giants when it drops a bit more.

Re: Disney Infinity - Questions
I tried to find a sealed box of game discs but Target and TRU put them all out. I ended up with the starter set, crystal lightning mcqueen, tru exclusive power disc pack, cars set and 3 pack villains. I need to pick up the lone ranger and the other 3 pack from BB tomorrow. I am expecting the other 4 single figures from MS.
We haven't opened anything yet as we were at the zoo all day. |

Re: Disney Infinity - Questions
The game is somewhat fun to play as we have been playing the Monsters University. However, I am disappointed that the voice they have for Sully sound nothing like Sully and neither does Jack Sparrow. At least find someone that sounds similar to the original voice. The guy working as Jack Sparrow at Disney World Magic Kingdom sounds better than the person they selected to do the voice in the game.

Re: Disney Infinity - Questions
If this game had been basically a clone of Skylanders, I would have jumped all over it. Skylanders + Disney characters = awesome.
However, I was looking forward to playing, say, Sully AND Jack Sparrow in a level fighting Syndrome (or whoever). But as I'm seeing it, Sully (and other monsters) play ONLY in the Monsters Inc. levels, Jack Sparrow (and other pirates) play ONLY in the Pirates levels, and so on. The only time you can mix the characters is in the Toy Box, but that also requires you building your own levels/games/obstacles? Forget that. I was seriously looking forward to Thor and Mickey Mouse teaming up to defeat a Darth Vader on a Star Wars level. How awesome would that have been? It makes the figures seem...unnecessary (which, I realize they are, as are the Skylanders). But there's this neat element to Skylanders where you get to "tag in" as needed. This just seems like "Here's the Pirates level; go buy Davy Jones if you want to play as him." It seems like the Toy Story 3 game...with borderline useless toys. I'm not threadcrapping here; I was ready to drop some serious coin on this for me and my girls (especially since there are apparently princesses coming). Even had it preordered. But now I feel like I've dodged a bullet. |

My son was playing a level with The lone ranger and tonto and then I removed tonto and tossed in Mike from mosters and he played fine..then tossed on sully etc. the rep then stated you can play any person on any board. Hope this helps and I and they werent wrong |
Re: Disney Infinity - Questions
Sgt snake, I'm guessing you were playing toy box mode
|
Re: Disney Infinity - Questions
There are some strange and unintentionally funny collision issues in this game. There sure are more bugs than one would expect from such a highly promoted release as this one. We are still having quite a bit of fun with it.
