The Crew (PS4, Xbox One, PC - 12/2/2014)
This was the one title at the Ubisoft press conference that really stood out to me. Looking forward to this one a lot.
http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/10/th...-announced-e3/ The Crew was present and correct at Ubisoft's E3 conference today. As expected, it's an open-world racer from Ubisoft Reflections and Ivory Tower, and it's coming early next year to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Ubisoft says it's using next-gen hardware with The Crew to "change the status quo" of driving games. The Crew will feature an online persistent representation of the US, in which players infiltrate criminal organizations in individual cities. Ubisoft says the online persistent world "blurs the lines" between the game's single-player, multiplayer, and co-op. Ubisoft showed off a demo featuring four players playing in four different US cities. One player was taking part in an illegal street race, while another was fighting through a 20-second trial, and the third was racing against a ghost. The final player called upon the first three to join him in a co-op mission in Miami, demonstrating how The Crew doesn't need a lobby for online multiplayer. The game will also have a companion 'second screen' app on iOS and Android. <iframe id="viddler-83d3416a" src="//www.viddler.com/embed/83d3416a/?f=1&offset=0&autoplay=0&secret=10239054&disablebranding=0&view_secret=10239054" width="545" height="349" frameborder="0" mozallowfullscreen="true" webkitallowfullscreen="true"></iframe> |

I'm sorry, but was that CG, Gameplay, or real life?

Disappointed in two things with this game. 1. That it's an arcade racer. 2. That it doesn't more realistically map the US. But it does look really badass.

The Crew delayed by Ubisoft
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/the.../1100-6415592/ After Watch Dogs, Ubisoft also announced a delay for The Crew. Following the delay of Watch Dogs to Spring 2014, Ubisoft has also confirmed that it has delayed the release of its open-world next-gen racer The Crew. The Crew was never given a specific date, but was pegged to be released in Spring 2014. Ubisoft has now pushed the game back to its next financial year, meaning it will be released after April 1, 2014. The game was first revealed at E3 2013. Speaking about the delay of both The Crew and Watch Dogs, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said "our long term goal is to win the next generation. The tough decisions we are taking today to fully realize the major potential of our new creations have an impact on our short-term performance." "We are convinced that, longer term, they will prove to be the right decisions both in terms of satisfaction for our fans and in terms of value creation for our shareholders. We are building franchises that will become perennial pillars of Ubisoft’s financial performance. In a context of growing successes for mega-blockbusters, the additional time given to the development of our titles will allow them to fulfill their huge ambitions and thus offer players even more exceptional experiences.” Guillemot concluded by saying that he believes Ubisoft will break its record for operating revenue in fiscal years 2014-15 and 2015-16. As a result of the delays, the company has lowered its sales target for the year a figure between €995 million and €1,045 million for the year. Its previous sales targets sat between €1,420 million and €1,450 million. |

Wait, Watch Dogs was delayed? :mad2:

re: The Crew (PS4, Xbox One, PC - 12/2/2014)
Damn Ubisoft, you make sure a new Assassin's Creed game gets released every year, but two new IPs get delayed? WTF?

re: The Crew (PS4, Xbox One, PC - 12/2/2014)
Weird, the game looked and felt near completion when I played it back in August. In fact, Ubisoft only brought playable demos for The Crew and Just Dance 2014. Assassin's Creed 4 and Watch Dogs were both presentation based.

I've heard terrible things from folks who are playing the beta. Glitchy and laden with microtransactions.

Far Cry 3 did just fine with a December release date. I'm sure the game is garbage but nothing comes out in December.

Really? I thought the feedback was generally very positive. But microtransactions......dammit.
There were bugs, but that's the whole point of a beta, to iron things out. I don't mind it being delayed a month to fix them, and to add suggestions from players which I also saw reported as to the reason for the delay. The microtransactions aren't necessary. All you can do is buy stuff sooner than you would unlock it, there's nothing you can buy that you can't earn in the game for free. The only problem I had with the game was the car's handling but once I played with the options and sliders, that wasn't an issue. It really is just a fun game to play. I described it as Burnout meets Destiny. You have great racing action and then you're driving along in free cruise and all of a sudden find yourself either coming upon other players and either racing, trying to take each other out, or just doing whatever, or invited to join coop races. I will say that the story was already better than the Destiny story by the end of the prologue. :D |

Cool. Thanks for the feedback.

So this is out today.

re: The Crew (PS4, Xbox One, PC - 12/2/2014)
Are you getting it?
I'm tempted... but I've been pretty happy with FH2. |
re: The Crew (PS4, Xbox One, PC - 12/2/2014)
Is there another review embargo on this one? I haven't seen one anywhere.
|
re: The Crew (PS4, Xbox One, PC - 12/2/2014)
Probably. I heard it was massively buggy in the beta.
|
re: The Crew (PS4, Xbox One, PC - 12/2/2014)
Ubisoft said that the game would be out before reviews...so....
The 3 minutes I played at E3 seemed cool, I wasn't expecting the cities to be full of pedestrians etc, and you could super customize each car. Outside of that, I have no idea. |
re: The Crew (PS4, Xbox One, PC - 12/2/2014)
I wasn't thrilled with the beta, so I'm waiting for a price drop. Seems like fun, just not the amazing fun it looked like in the initial reveal. Also it's yet another game with Troy Baker as the lead, and I need to distance myself from it for that.
The embargo was basically "we'll send out review copies at launch" since it's entirely online and they didn't want critics playing with a limited number of other players. Sneaky, sure... but also we won't get reviews saying online works great and then at launch it breaks. |
re: The Crew (PS4, Xbox One, PC - 12/2/2014)
I was interested to play this, but release timing is horrible. Too much to play right now, so this, or DriveClub will have to wait.

re: The Crew (PS4, Xbox One, PC - 12/2/2014)
Has anyone picked this up? I was watching some streams of if this morning but the only people that were talking were speaking French so I have no idea what was going on. Is it co-op? Why is it called The Crew? The description in the first post in this thread says "it blurs the lines between single player, co-op, and multiplayer". I don't know, from what I was watching it was mostly just one car trying to go from point A to point B. Typical arcade racer type stuff.
There still doesn't seem to be reviews anywhere. I'm curious to hear what this game is actually about. |
re: The Crew (PS4, Xbox One, PC - 12/2/2014)
It's an MMO racer. Has to be connected to the internet. People have been reporting that if the connection hitches for even a moment, you lose progress. It's the same kind of thing that killed off NFS Rivals so quickly for most people.

re: The Crew (PS4, Xbox One, PC - 12/2/2014)
Still no reviews anywhere that I can find.

re: The Crew (PS4, Xbox One, PC - 12/2/2014)
IGN has an "ongoing" review. They say they'll probably give their final thoughts after about a week.
