Target has a Cartwheel coupon for 50% off The Evil Within, making it $15 for the PS4 & XB1 versions

That isn't a bad deal at all. The game was definitely frustrating at times but I am glad I played it.

The second part of the DLC where you learn more about Kidman just recently came out too. So her two part story arc is now complete.

Time to buy it.

A new update to the survival horror game has introduced an new Full-Screen mode that does away with the thick black bars on the top and bottom of the screen, instead giving players the option to fill all of the empty screen space with a view of the game world.

The update has also rebalanced casual difficulty to allow players more ammo and a more forgiving health bar.

A great change, but too late for me and a lot of others.

I thought they patched out the black bars several months ago?

Edit to add: It looks like they only patched the black bars out of the PC version. Now they are finally doing it on the console version several months later. Consoles are always behind... PC master race!

On PC, they did. This new update is for consoles.

Good to hear they finally fixed this. Now I just need to find the time to pop in my copy and check it out.

Won't this just make the framerate worse than it already is/was? Or was that fixed at some point?

Too little too late. Would've been great within 8 weeks of release though.

Since the visuals weren't jaw dropping to begin with, I imagine they could have fixed that as well.

Re: THE EVIL WITHIN: ...by Shinji Mikami's new studio Tango Gameworks

I started playing this recently and made it to chapter 3. So far it reminds me of a slower RE4. Not really scary and kinda janky, almost like a "remastered" last gen game since nothing about it really stands out as a current gen game. Maybe it picks up more in later chapters.

I came across some matches. As far as I can tell, the only use for them is to burn enemies that you have already killed. Is that correct? If you don't burn them, do they come back later and attack you again?

Dead enemies stay dead, but the fire from burning them can be used strategically for other purposes. It will spread to any living enemies that are close to the burning body.

Ah, cool then. I guess I'll hold on to them for more sticky situations.

Re: THE EVIL WITHIN: ...by Shinji Mikami's new studio Tango Gameworks

Another game off my Unplayed Pile of Shame list, beat this on Sunday.

I thought it was actually decent, even though it felt like a blatant copy of RE. Going through the story mode again with an upgraded character and weapons is alot of fun...and so much easier. I made it through Chapter 10 in 4 hours.

I also bought the season pass way back when I got the game (Black Friday 2014), so I'm going through the DLC. The Executioner story is fun until the very end...I have yet to kill The Dark Keeper a 3rd time because those goddamn hands reach out of the ground and kill you in 1 hit.

As for the Kidman DLC, I'm not going to be a happy camper if this is all stealth. Avoiding enemies because you have literally no weapons is no fun.

No, since it's already on the Xbox One as a budget title, it's a low priority title.

Re: THE EVIL WITHIN: ...by Shinji Mikami's new studio Tango Gameworks

Although nowhere near as scary as Outlast, I really like this one, the graphics are very nice and sound is great too. I can definitely see where it was too tough as well, I'm glad they made the changes.

It looks like this game definitely copied Outlast as well with the hiding elements and a couple of other things.

I'm on chapter 3 now and looking forward to clearing this game soon - glad I finally bought it.

Re: THE EVIL WITHIN: ...by Shinji Mikami's new studio Tango Gameworks

Beat this last Friday - that was one hell of a story. Even though they made the game "easier" this shit was still pretty tough, even on casual. That final boss battle was one of the best I've ever done in video game as well - very entertaining and over the top.

This games environments are amazing - they really stick in your head long after playing.

The keeper dlc isnt that great but the kidman one is pretty good so far - even though it's all stealth, it's really cool - haven't played enough yet to know if it's a keeper or not though - IGN praised it back when it came out though.

Re: THE EVIL WITHIN: ...by Shinji Mikami's new studio Tango Gameworks

Got almost halfway through this, but then my game disc went bat - no scratches, but there was a weird rainbow/ripple effect on the blu-ray's data side underneath the coating - no other disc looks like this, so I think this happened over time.

What I got from what I played was that this game wanted to be RE4 so bad - yeah, I know it's form RE4's creator, but still, not that it felt like a rip-off, but just an attempt at capturing the same magic.

Re: THE EVIL WITHIN: ...by Shinji Mikami's new studio Tango Gameworks

Damn, anyone on the fence about getting the DLC - just buy it.... I'm playing "The Assginment" DLC and it's awesome (you play as the female detective Kidman), definitely better than the original game - it's so tense - the new "creature" is F'n terrifying There is another DLC storyline after the assignment called "The Consequence" as well.

You will never get used to the sound that plays when enemies spot you - so anxiety inducing.

The Executioner DLC is kind of lame - you play as a keeper (the dude with the safe on his head...and you learn why there is a safe on the guys head as well and you also learn what is in the sack he smacks you with) and it's in first person mode but I just couldn't get into it.

Just download the season pass then DL all the DLC - you will save a little money that way.

Re: THE EVIL WITHIN: ...by Shinji Mikami's new studio Tango Gameworks

Ok, one last post (and one last time talking to myself) The DLC was amazing (the assignment and the consequence) Loaded with originality and just very well done.

Before clicking on the following spoiler - make sure you really want too - I can't even give a clue without spoiling anything so again.....don't click the following spoiler if you don't want something very cool ruined:

Spoiler:
The game has a fake ending - it's available in the consequence DLC only - it's when you get to the very end where everyone is laying in the tubs - all you do is walk up to the crystal brain like thing in the middle that has everything connected and just shoot it once and immediately the credits will start to roll with a picture of 3 characters in a goofy pose that says "congratulations, you did it!!" - the music is ridiculous as well - when this occurred, I let out a big WTF? then a couple seconds later you're back in the same room and kidman screams "WTF!!!" lol then you just continue on - it was amazing, Never seen anything like that in a game before - especially for a serious horror game like this.

The final battle in the consequence is amazing as well - it's a "3 piece" but it's not frustrating at all - it's very well done and original - I loved it.

It sounds like the DLC might be worth picking up when cheap. I finished the game over a year ago and can't remember WTF was going on
