VR just doesn't seem to be taking off like the industry thought and many of us hoped. I can't quite place my finger on the real issues with it because it's cool as hell. I know I do get motion sickness from some games but other than that, I love playing when I do play.
It's just hot and uncomfortable playing games with a bucket on your head. I dig my PSVR2 but it's not fun to get hot and sweaty after 30 minutes.

I went with the 128 because I am only using 33 gigs of the space on my 2.
I won't lie and say I am not still second guessing that decision though.

Anyone playing Dungeons of Eternity. I have only played the tutorial but the game is cool as hell. Should be crazy fun multiplayer.

I went with the 512 ... and I'm second guessing that decision too I figured I'd err on the side of too much space than not enough. Shipping has it arriving tomorrow. Although I may not get it tomorrow. I used my work address because I didn't want to deal with the hassle of signing for it.

Mine is supposed to arrive Thursday, though Amazon doesn't even show it having shipped yet.
Picked up the elite battery strap from Wal*Mart today.
Did you use a referral before on your previous quest? Is that allowed here or frowned upon? I think each person gets $30 store credit if I remember right if you use one.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)

I was in Walmart and saw multiple Quest 3s of the two sizes, so this absolutely isn't one of those products with supply demand issues.

I set things and played around for a little. I won't really have much gaming time for the next 5-6 weeks though. I'm going from Quest 1 to Quest 3 so there may be "new" features that aren't really new. The way it determines the room boundaries is cool. Instead of drawing lines the headset scans the room and maps things out (including furniture). And the headset is noticeably lighter.

Does anyone know how the newer version handles previously purchased games (which were played on the older model)? Do you have to rebuy if you want the Quest 3 (of Quest 2) versions? Do some games upgrade for free?

All Quest 2 games are fully compatible with Quest 3.
I don't think people had to rebuy Quest 1 games to play on the Quest 2, but I couldn't swear to that.

Correct, the Quests are all backwards compatible so far. Very few are crossplatform though (PC + Quest).

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)

Has anyone seen anything that compares the Q3 to PSVR2? Everything I've seen about the Q3 talks about how it's the best to go with due to the cost to get into it. But if I already have a PS5 and don't care about the cost or being wired, which of the two offers the better experience?

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)

Whichever has the software you want. The PSVR2 is obviously going to be the more powerful because the PS5 is stronger than any Snapdragon processor out there and it has eye tracking which the Quest 3 does not.

I picked up a Quest 3 earlier -- the passthrough/AR stuff is cool but definitely immature at this point, the tracking seems a lot better on the Quest 3 than the Quest 2 but overall the changes seem to be kind of minimal

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)

For those with the Quest 3 ... is there a third party alternative head strap that you recommend? The "official" Elite strap from Meta seems to be generally considered a rip-off. I'm seeing a bunch of 3rd party accessories, some of them with extra batteries for the headset, but it's a bit overwhelming about which one to get.

I just know I can't handle the head strap that came with it, since it makes my face hurt after about 20 minutes.

I use the Meta one and don't feel that it is a rip off at all. But as far as 3rd party ones, people seem to be in love with the BoboVR stuff.

I placed an order for the BOBOVR M3. There seems to be huge demand for it, with it listed as not expected to ship for at least a couple of weeks. The one negative that some reviews are saying is that the extra battery can be noisy. Not everyone mentions that though ... and there was a video attached to one review highlighting the noise and I could barely hear anything myself. But I figure I'll give it a shot since so many people swear by this product and it's $80 less than the "official" accessory ($50 vs $130).

Arizona Sunshine 2 looks like a legit AAA game instead of a tech demo. Comes out in just over 2 weeks. I'm thinking about getting it.

Also Synapse is 35% off at PSN Store. I might grab it now.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)

I went with the 512 because with the 128, you only have 100 left for games. And games are getting bigger, Assassin's Creed Nexus takes 17g, when a couple years ago, VR games took 3-4 gb. As for comfort, I never had a Quest 2, so I just transferred my Quest 1 comfort/battery mods to the Quest 3!

And Assassin's Creed Nexus is tons of fun, it actually feels like a "real game", despite the ennemy AI being mediocre. Haven't played it, but it seems that RE4 VR is also excellent. And I'm a sucker for sniper games, so I'm looking forward to Sniper Elite Winter Warriors VR, comes out in December.

But the most impressive is the mixed reality. First Encounters comes with the Quest and you must try it:

I bought Espire 2 for it's mixed reality mode, but you could also get Drop Dead The Cabin, if you prefer zombies

Oh, and this is a must have upgrade IMHO, AMVR grips. If you play games like Beat Saber, Pistol Whip, FitXR, or other "workout games", the little white cord that comes on the controllers is useless in terms of "feel".

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)

Quest 3 games Black Friday sale:

The Quest Store Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals are here, with big discounts on many titles and a rare discount for Beat Saber and its DLC tracks.

Available from now until 10am PT on November 28, Meta is offering up to 40% off a bunch of titles on the Quest Store. Some of the stand-out inclusions and newer releases are Demeo, Breachers, Hellsweeper, Killer Frequency, Toss!, Iron Man VR, I Expect You To Die 3, Budget Cuts Ultimate, No More Rainbows, Vermillion, Walkabout Mini Golf, Eye of the Temple, Resident Evil 4, Five Nights at Freddy's, Dungeons of Eternity, Beat Saber, Red Matter 2, Pistol Whip, Among Us VR, Floor Plan 2 and Drop Dead: The Cabin.

And that's not even everything! You can view the full list of discounted titles here.

I think this is the first time ever I've seen Beat Saber on sale, all DLC's/Music Packs as well. Pistol Whip is also well worth it. I'll probably get RE4, and maybe Red Matter 2. Espire 2 is not on there but if you want a mixed reality experience, there's Drop Dead: The Cabin.

Last month I had a random $7 credit sitting in my account and I just found another there now. Weird. Iron Man VR for $11 works for me.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)

I'm excited about Arizona Sunshine 2. The first game had fantastic physics/hand tracking. I've practiced "shooting from the hip" in real life a lot more than a normal person should, and it translated to that game really well. And I loved the over-the-top narration.

I wasn't planning to get the first Arizona Sunshine VR but it's $5 on Steam.

Also if you bought a Quest 3, you should have gotten a 6 month free trial of Meta Quest +. Check your phone app. You can cancel immediately after subscribing. You get 2 free games a month, to keep as long as you subscribe. The two free games for this month are NFL Pro Era VR, and Angry Birds VR.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)

I also had the random $7 credit in my Meta cart so adding in the stackable 40% off anything Black Friday coupon from Meta, I finally got Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge for $9.34 for my Meta Quest 2. I've wanted this for a while but balked at the $25 price for what I'm guessing is a so-so Star Wars experience (I'll be glad to be proven wrong).
