hollywood.com best LucasArts list: http://www.hollywood.com/news/movies...ames-lucasarts 10. Episode I: Racer (1999) 9. Shadows of the Empire (1996) 8. Yoda Stories (1996) 7. Dark Forces (1995) 6. Battlefront II (2006) 5. Knights of the Old Republic (2003) 4. The Empire Strikes Back (1992) 3. Rogue Squadron (1998) 2. X-Wing Alliance (1998) 1. Jedi Knight II: Outcast (2002) Yoda Stories was mediocre and Shadows of the Empire is being viewed through rose tinted fanboy glasses. I loved it at the time, but it was not a very good game. The fact that it was the first 3D SW game on consoles made it awesome, but everything else about it was very average. |
Re: Disney Shuts Down LucasArts
Tie Fighter (or even X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter) is not on that list, thus making it invalid
|
Re: Disney Shuts Down LucasArts
agreed
|
Re: Disney Shuts Down LucasArts
I didn't go to the actual list, but assumed they were including Tie Fighter in the same series/category as X-Wing. Not that that makes it right.
I guess having Jedi Knight II and Battlefront II on the list kind of ruins that theory though. |
Re: Disney Shuts Down LucasArts
Full Throttle was the best LucasArts game I ever played. Played it on my first pc back in the mid-90s, a packard bell. I think I remember they were going to do a sequel then it got cancelled. Bummer.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...efightercd.jpg And to answer your question, you can definitely play Tie Fighter on XP (at least the cd version). I think I had to download a patch of some sort from the LucasArts website. I'm not sure about Vista or higher though. |

Odd list. X-Wing Alliance over the previous 3 titles in the series? No Super Star Wars(Empire/Jedi) titles on the list? No Star Wars Arcade? Star Wars Trilogy Arcade? Hell, where's LEGO Star Wars?

I never liked Shadows of the Empire. It's the first game I can recall trading in.

Re: Disney Shuts Down LucasArts
I haven't really played a ton of the Star Wars games, other than KOTOR, the Jedi Knight games and Racer, but I loved LucasArts back in the SCUMM days. Zack McKraken, Full Throttle, Maniac Mansion, etc. Oh, and I'm pretty sure this one was pre-SCUMM, but Labyrinth was pretty awesome, particularly for when it came out.

I remember liking the book (and the score CD). I have the book (and the score CD) somewhere in my room. Maybe I should give it a read after I finish re-reading The Hobbit later today.
Also Dash Rendar came off to me very much as a poor man's Han Solo. He only exists because Han Solo is frozen in carbonite, and they wanted someone to fill the scoundrel/smuggler role. |
Re: Disney Shuts Down LucasArts
Lucasarts made some great fucking games. This is sad news.
First Lucasarts game I ever played was The Eidolon on my C64. I never could beat it but I blew many hours trying. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXEwQCS4yow&sns=em I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the wonderful first person shooter, Outlaws. Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is a classic. How about Afterlife? |
Re: Disney Shuts Down LucasArts
Tie Fighter definitely the best. Rebel Assault was notable for being the first Star Wars game on CD Rom. Rebel Assault II had the first brand new Star Wars footage filmed since the Ewok movies. I never could get the sound to work on Dark Forces. :(

Re: Disney Shuts Down LucasArts
Yeah, Fate of Atlantis was one of my favorites.

Re: Disney Shuts Down LucasArts
Rogue Leader (the sequel on the Gamecube) should be on that list instead of Rogue Squadron. RS was too ambitious IMHO for the N64, with the limited draw distance being a problem. RL took that concept and put it on more capable hardware. It also had some cool extras like developer commentary.

Re: Disney Shuts Down LucasArts
Yeah its sad that LA is no more, but how long has it been since they have been relevant? 1313 showed some promise, but it was no more than a tech demo. Force Unleashed had some interesting features and the sequel was a hastily shot out turd. It was a sad end to a great history.

There I have to agree. About the only thing that I recall taking me out of the book was the obvious microwave (called a "cooker") reference.

Re: Disney Shuts Down LucasArts
That list was Star Wars specific.

I'm not sure about Vista or higher though. I play all my old DOS games on my Mac with a DOSBox front end called Boxer. They run beautifully. (I also have 3 Roland MIDI devices for music, to replicate the experience I always wanted in the '80s and '90s but could never afford.) |
Re: Disney Shuts Down LucasArts
This is what I will always remember Lucasarts for:
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iDksuGMYim...s1600/Lair.jpg Did anyone else get the Lucasarts magazine? It had original Sam and Max strips in it that parodied other Lucasarts titles. |
